First off, saran wrap can be reused, if you’re commited enough. Secondly, could be ziplock baggies with the tops drooping down ‘behind’. I suspect there’d be more grey in foil. So despite my hypothesis, I’d back sarin wrap or wax paper. Maybe wax paper is more decayable/eco friendly. Anyone know?
When I was in High School (an unbelieveably long time ago), ice cream sandwiches were 15 cents each in the cafeteria. I could tell my Mom I needed 75 cents for lunch to get sandwiches… Still my preferred ice cream go to snack.
My personal favorite sandwich is grilled Swiss on rye, with a nice bowl of clam chowder. Or a turkey and Muenster with mustard, mayo, lettuce and onion. Depends on the temperature outside.
I love a really good French dip, with the roast beef medium rare, and au jus that isn’t just a bouillon cube… Major points lost if there’s cheese on it, and god forbid they put any kind of spread on it. The au jus IS the hydrating ingredient, damn it.
I dunno, I tend to put a very thin layer of horseradish on my French dips (a “whisper”, I believe the standard measurement is called), and I’ve never gotten a complaint about it. I agree wholeheartedly with you that NO cheese belongs on a French dip, though.
I love a good spicy meatball sub. Ruebens are also rising high in my list of favorite sandwiches. In the fall months I really enjoy turkey club sandwiches with a side of turkey chili. Mmm.

it’s strange and magical how a change in context makes the same kind of thing Danny always does feel sweet rather than pathetic. It’s just all…about the right situation. And a little bit of character growth, somehow, maybe.
It also seems like their friendship reached a point where they understood each other first so e.g. Danny feels comfortable gently teasing her (giving her a song earworm, saying she just likes the hat here), and Sal enjoys it because she feels safe, emotionally, with him – which is a pretty novel experience for the poor girl…
They both know what they’re getting involved wifh here. He knows she carries quite a lot of emotional damage; she knows he’s a good egg (who Dannys things up occasionally)… They still like and respect each other.

Frankly, Sal is the sort of person who would just turn up in class one day with a ring and ask to be called ‘Sal Wilcox’. It’s not likely to ever happen but I really wouldn’t be completely surprised if it did.
The whole wiki needs a good rewrite. At this point, Dumbipedia should be its own thing instead of being sections or footnotes on the old Walkyverse info.
Maybe better hosting, too. It’s unfortunate that looking up anything pop culture related requires sifting through one of the least user-friendly platforms on the web since mailing lists. Maybe the TFWiki folks could help us out there.
– It’s a separate continuity from the Walkyverse, that’s seen daily updates for a decade. Walkypedia is years behind the story, but the DoA sections already count for about half of each character’s page.
– The characters are all developed enough to stand on their own, without relying on their Walkyverse counterparts (besides explaining running gags)
– None of the sci-fi elements of the old continuity are relevant here.
– The Fandom platform creates a terrible user experience. I think it only exists to shovel ads at you any time you search the web for information about a work of fiction.

Danny’s one of the few characters who’s not judgmental of her, and just lets her be herself (whoever that is). The only others I can think of are Marcie and maybe Walky. Most everyone else expects her to keep up the “aloof rebel biker” persona she uses as a defense mechanism to keep the world at arm’s length.
Yeah, Walky has gotten better and better at being a sibling to her, and I think she’s met him halfway on that, even if she’s still not really letting herself get that vulnerable with him just yet.
Billie/Jennifer has her moments, too, though obviously, right now is a pretty complicated time for them. Still, she had Sal’s back when Sal was calling out Linda’s bullshit before Walky was ready to hear it yet.
How nice to see that they like each other more and more ♡. Sal is genuinely amazed by his ability to organize and look forward. Danny has finally found someone who seems to appreciates his way of being. They seem to complement each other ♡♡. I think the sandwiches will be delicious♡.
Am I the only one seeing a future strip, set in springtime, when Sal appears one day in a beautiful flowing skirt and flowery blouse and with her hair tied back with a colourful bandanna. She sweeps over to Danny in the cafeteria, they kiss sweetly and cuddle up together?
Everyone is flabbergasted. Who is this and where is Sal? Maybe it’s left to Becky to say that this is what Sal is underneath her armour plate; it’s obvious that she feels that safe with Danny. Besides, it’s springtime! She wants to dress the part!
I don’t see her being comfortable enough doing that in public. And I think that’s okay. I have never bought the idea that who you “really” are is only what’s beneath your outer shell. My shell, as a turtle once sang on obscure Henson series The Animal Show, is a part of me.
He’s struggled with crushing self-esteem the whole series, not just for himself but in thinking that his role was to submit himself to his romantic partner in every aspect. One moment that sticks out in particular is that when Amber lashed out after he kissed her she was more willing to hold herself accountable than he was. He wouldn’t acknowledge it as wrong or something he didn’t deserve, it was something he was used to.
Now he’s with someone he’s outright described as being so out of his league that he never thought she’d look at him, and he’s joking with her. For as much as Sal needed someone she could be emotional around, Danny needed someone he could trust liked him for him too. No bullshit fantasies, no sweeping romance drama, just two people who vibed together so hard they realized they could have a good thing going and they’re acting on it.
Time to start living in mortal terror they break up. The cruel burden of shippers.
Anyway yeah I think the biggest problem these two are gonna face is how other people treat Sal for dating Danny.
Danny’s wanted someone he can be openly affectionate with (this was a whole big thing with Amber), but Sal has a reputation for being cool and unapproachable, and on some level I think she relished in it. It was totally false positive reinforcement, but it was still positive reinforcement for someone who otherwise received none.
She’s in such a good mood in panel 5, that’s one of those things where you can just hear the character’s voice, but what’s gonna happen when Danny shows up to be all adorable at her roller derby games? Around Asher and Jennifer? In front of Malaya, Carla and Walky? Her parents? The persona that Sal took because everyone decided it was hers, what is she gonna do when everyone around her tries to force her to live up to it?
Sal never really wanted that reputation she has, but what’ll happen if it starts getting taken away?
I feel like we’re seeing her grow out of that persona, which makes me happy. She’s decided on her major, I think if someone were to give her grief when Danny is adorable publicly she would shoot them down. She’s finally seemingly happy.
Role reversal? LOTS of parents seem to raise their kids (regardless of gender) with the expectation that the kids’ partner will need to take care of them.
Yeah, it’s weird how parents deliberately half-ass raising their kids so that they’ll tend to have specific gaps in their skillets, which are then expected to be filled by their future partner, one way or another.
HOT TAKE: (maybe?)
The reason Sal was in a foul mood with others before (them thinking she was jealous of Billingsworth/Asher etc…) was because it disgusted Sal and also that she knew already who she wanted but he hadn’t been clued in yet and so she was still in her own tense little world wondering how it was going to play out?
Nah I don’t think she already wanted Danny, she realized she could have a good thing going with him when, after a day of crashing and burning with the other two guys she’s been intimate (sexually and emotionally, respectively) with in her life, she vented at Danny and he broke down her belief that everyone just wants to use her.
The start of the scene where she kisses him has her comment (while dropping her accent) that she knows why she constantly interacts with him in roundabout ways instead of just going up and talking to him, implying that there is something buried there, but I think with that it’s less “already romantically interested in Danny” and more “Danny has been the only non-Marcie person in the whole comic who provides her an outlet for emotional intimacy.”
Maybe not uninterested but something she wasn’t willing to consider it while the threat of being manipulated by Danny (because everyone can threaten her with that) hung in the air and was content hanging out with him on the Got Dumped stairs playing ukulele.
That is a true statement by Danny, whether you are invited or just taking a long ride by yourself, make sandwiches. Back when I rode regularly sometimes 60-100 miles a day I would burn through 4000 to 4500 Calories a day. Actually no, I ate that much but I probably burned more because I kept losing and gaining about 5 pounds a week. Burn through the calories on the long days and replace them on the short days.
Old truism of cycling — eat before you get hungry, drink before you get thirsty. Once — just once — I violated this, and let’s just say that it wasn’t a pleasant experience. Seriously, I thought I was gonna die, and was wondering why it was taking so long to do so.
Not on these bikes – no bags or racks or anything. My headcanon is that Danny had the sandwiches in his jacket pockets, one per pocket … and the sandwiches are probably a little bit the worse for it, so he offers Sal the less-mangled of the two.

Danny in panel 2 fills me with thoughts.
He’s struggled with crushing self-esteem the whole series, not just for himself but in thinking that his role was to submit himself to his romantic partner in every aspect. One moment that sticks out in particular is that when Amber lashed out after he kissed her she was more willing to hold herself accountable than he was. He wouldn’t acknowledge it as wrong or something he didn’t deserve, it was something he was used to.
Now he’s with someone he’s outright described as being so out of his league that he never thought she’d look at him, and he’s joking with her. For as much as Sal needed someone she could be emotional around, Danny needed someone he could trust liked him for him too. No bullshit fantasies, no sweeping romance drama, just two people who vibed together so hard they realized they could have a good thing going and they’re acting on it.
Time to start living in mortal terror they break up. The cruel burden of shippers.

Anyway yeah I think the biggest problem these two are gonna face is how other people treat Sal for dating Danny.
Danny’s wanted someone he can be openly affectionate with (this was a whole big thing with Amber), but Sal has a reputation for being cool and unapproachable, and on some level I think she relished in it. It was totally false positive reinforcement, but it was still positive reinforcement for someone who otherwise received none.
She’s in such a good mood in panel 5, that’s one of those things where you can just hear the character’s voice, but what’s gonna happen when Danny shows up to be all adorable at her roller derby games? Around Asher and Jennifer? In front of Malaya, Carla and Walky? Her parents? The persona that Sal took because everyone decided it was hers, what is she gonna do when everyone around her tries to force her to live up to it?
Sal never really wanted that reputation she has, but what’ll happen if it starts getting taken away?
Yeah, it’s one thing to connect with him privately, like this, but it might be completely different for her with others around.
Though she was willing to ask him out with Joe there, so that’s at least one step.
I feel like we’re seeing her grow out of that persona, which makes me happy. She’s decided on her major, I think if someone were to give her grief when Danny is adorable publicly she would shoot them down. She’s finally seemingly happy.
Another big problem will be how people treat danny for dating Sal.
The main cast will be ok with it, but i can see Danny’s parents being critical. “You gave ue up Dorthy for a motorcycle chick?”
Yeah, I can definitely see Danny’s parents as not approving. She’s not a “good catch”.
I like their weird gender role reversal of expecting Danny to need a good partner to take care of him.
Role reversal? LOTS of parents seem to raise their kids (regardless of gender) with the expectation that the kids’ partner will need to take care of them.
Yeah, it’s weird how parents deliberately half-ass raising their kids so that they’ll tend to have specific gaps in their skillets, which are then expected to be filled by their future partner, one way or another.
Danny probably sounds like a cartoon Jay Baruchel.

The reason Sal was in a foul mood with others before (them thinking she was jealous of Billingsworth/Asher etc…) was because it disgusted Sal and also that she knew already who she wanted but he hadn’t been clued in yet and so she was still in her own tense little world wondering how it was going to play out?
Nah I don’t think she already wanted Danny, she realized she could have a good thing going with him when, after a day of crashing and burning with the other two guys she’s been intimate (sexually and emotionally, respectively) with in her life, she vented at Danny and he broke down her belief that everyone just wants to use her.

Danny hit on her and Sal responded in a way that indicated she wasn’t opposed to the idea, but that’s about it.
I’d say she hadn’t yet accepted the idea that she wanted him.
Kinda depends on how you define “want.”
The start of the scene where she kisses him has her comment (while dropping her accent) that she knows why she constantly interacts with him in roundabout ways instead of just going up and talking to him, implying that there is something buried there, but I think with that it’s less “already romantically interested in Danny” and more “Danny has been the only non-Marcie person in the whole comic who provides her an outlet for emotional intimacy.”
Maybe not uninterested but something she wasn’t willing to consider it while the threat of being manipulated by Danny (because everyone can threaten her with that) hung in the air and was content hanging out with him on the Got Dumped stairs playing ukulele.
That is a true statement by Danny, whether you are invited or just taking a long ride by yourself, make sandwiches. Back when I rode regularly sometimes 60-100 miles a day I would burn through 4000 to 4500 Calories a day. Actually no, I ate that much but I probably burned more because I kept losing and gaining about 5 pounds a week. Burn through the calories on the long days and replace them on the short days.
Old truism of cycling — eat before you get hungry, drink before you get thirsty. Once — just once — I violated this, and let’s just say that it wasn’t a pleasant experience. Seriously, I thought I was gonna die, and was wondering why it was taking so long to do so.

Not on these bikes – no bags or racks or anything. My headcanon is that Danny had the sandwiches in his jacket pockets, one per pocket … and the sandwiches are probably a little bit the worse for it, so he offers Sal the less-mangled of the two.
We haven’t really seen Danny’s bike in any detail yet. All we’ve gotten are silhouettes at a distance.
