As far as we understand it now, an adult may or may not have had feathers, and likely wasn’t covered in them.

This is hugely unfair. It’s a fairly natural instinct to look at what looks most like a face, and Dina’s face seems to be mostly obscured. I think it’s silly to assume Joyce doesn’t know where Dina’s face is, where she’s looking is hardly a direct link to where she thinks Dina’s face is.

Also we know Joyce gets good grades. (the implication being here that the only reason some of her grades had dipped was because she couldn’t see in the larger classes) Joyce is plenty bright.

Besides what few details I can make out in the blue palette, dinosaurs most likely did not roar. Rather, they growled and hissed.

Their vocalization would work the same as birds do so chirping and the like is also possible. If you want a taste for hor how T.rex might’ve sounded look up how cassowaries sound. It’s a trip.

Cassowaries live in jungles mind so they have evolutionary pressure to make deep sounds (low notes travel through vegetarion better) while T.rex did not.

I feel like people forget that the first Jurassic Park came out almost 30 years ago. It absolutely had inaccuracies that were known at the time, but it also was in a decent number of ways more accurate than anything else at the time. Portraying dinosaur tails as not dragging on the ground for example, was a huge statement in the early 90s. (ironically Dina’s costume is probably less accurate in this respect, but I expect that choice was made for practical reasons)

Also for all the flak they get about velociraptors, they were startlingly close, just the name was a bit off, and Utahraptor was just named as a species around the time the first movie came out.

And Dina herself may talk about the Jurassic Park dinosaurs as “movie monsters”, but they were very much portrayed as animals, with the danger to the human characters the result of fairly natural animal behavior. A lot (again, definitely not all) of the criticisms of accuracy in Jurassic Park have the benefit of hindsight.

T.rex once adult likely didn’t have (much) plumage as we’ve found enough skin imprints without to confirm that. Babies absolutely were covered though and adults migh’ve had little remnants.

However, T.rex in particular appears to be a bit of an outlier as more basal tyrannosaurs did have feathers and they were very common in ceolosaurs in general so there’s nothing conclusive yet.

In fairness, Billie does have a pleasant amount of weight on her, in some very nice places, so I like to think that Ruth’s eyes were wandering even that far back and she couldn’t verbalise it in a non-terrible way. Or maybe I’m projecting and extrapolating too much from your choice of words.

The understanding of feathers in Tyrannosauroids has changed as new material is discovered and studied.

Basal Tyrannosauroids like Yutyrannus were feathered, and it was a reasonable assumption that their descendants retained those feathers, even though it turned out to be wrong when skin impressions found of T. rex which were featherless

Question tangentaly related to the comic…

Would Joyce and Becky be allowed to watch Jurassic Park when growing up, or did they watch it after they went to college? After all, they had some pretty tight restrictions when growing up (couldn’t watch Power Rangers because it promoted “eastern religion”, couldn’t watch Frozen because it implied parents sometimes make mistake.) Jurassic Park does treat evolution in a pretty straight-forward “matter of fact” way, so you figure Joyce and Becky’s parents might have forbidden them from seeing it.

As Carl Sagan once said, “You can have creationism or you can have Jurassic Park. Not both.”

In Lincoln’s time, I think it was actually called DARPANET, named after his son.

No idea. Because the thing is, their parents could also be hypocrites where allowances were random, inconsistent or illogical. But it is also possible they did similar to Star Wars where Joyce was only allowed to see snippets of the movie that they personally chose and allowed.

I see. Hide one lizard with another.*

(I know, the relationship of dinosaurs to what we think of as reptiles now is a bit complicated, but I mean in the “terrible lizards” name-meaning sense.)

I think that’s (as mentioned above) one of the inflatable ones, so not self-made.

Even if it was pre-made, she probably made at least a few modifications to it for optimal mobility and/or other purposes. ?

Yeah that’s what I meant. I think there’s one featuring post timeskip Carla, Malaya and Fuckface, but we don’t know exactly when that took place.

Normally you’d have to have Malaya around to see Fuckface, so it makes sense he would be a rare sighting. (See Malaya is terribly unpleasant to be aroundr.)

Fuckface’s constant expression is caused by only having the lizard brain and not any of the higher brain functions (and yes this was a pun)

Okay, Dina is adorable in her costume (and potentially lethal). But Ruth as the Grim Reaper is exceptional! She has that genuine “aura of death and sadness” around her that makes others fear her and start worrying about the future.

Hide the lizard behind a bigger lizard. No one will notice the lizard. Good thinking.
