Dumbing of Age predominantly featured in distant background of Attack of the Show
New commenting rules, trying them out.
I know I have a bunch of old webcomics that featured versions of these Dumbing of Age characters. That’s my own fault. It was gonna create confusion, but I figgered the benefits outweighed the downsides. And I still believe they do. I wouldn’t be nearly as excited about this comic otherwise, as I am writing about old friends.
But, dudes, when interacting with each other in the comments, let us restrain ourselves sensibly! When folks are commenting on these strips and ask about a character’s motivation in Dumbing of Age, many of these commenting folks are new to this universe! They haven’t read Roomies! or It’s Walky! or Shortpacked! or Joyce and Walky!, and nor should they have to. And so they do not want to be greeted in response with a detailed blow-by-blow account of character X in another webcomic. That is not helping. You are just being confusing and not even answering the question, since there is no answer to the question yet. This isn’t a SPOILERS! thing. It’s a flood of irrelevant information thing.
So, please, I ask of you. Let’s just talk about Dumbing of Age. If you are not talking about Dumbing of Age, there is a good chance I will delete your posts. I am happy that you are contributing, but I value my new readers.
If a new Dumbing of Age reader wants to find my other work on their own initiative, that is perfectly fine and good as well! But my focus on this website is telling this story this way. And I don’t want it muddled unsolicited. Thank you.
HORROR
So Dedlok made a “spray” from a Dumbing of Age panel for Team Fortress 2. I show it off now, because it is hilarious. On my way to BotCon!
This webcomic probably doesn’t have quite the same action figure dork following that my other webcomic does, but I should probably note here that I’m gonna be artist-alleying it up at BotCon this weekend in Pasadena, California. I won’t be at my table all the time since there’s panels I want to see, but I will definitely be findable. You could probably spot my red luau shirt from space.
Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaace!

Sarah’s out of the top image. It makes me very sad. I have big plans for her, but all of these plans stem from her being avoidant and generally anti-people. And having her interact with everyone all the time right off the bat works against that idea, so there hasn’t been very much of her so far.
Two and a half Dorothies
Here’s something I’ve decided to crosspost from my DeviantArt:
So I’m thinking, man, my original model sheet for Dumbing of Age‘s Dorothy doesn’t really cut it anymore, but didn’t I draw it just — oh my Lord, that art is ten months old already! Whoa, how time flies. Dorothy got redrawn. I’m not sure exactly what for, other than to satisfy myself, as it’s not like Dorothy’s full-body art is all over my website or anything. It was an itch I needed to scratch. More important than representing the little nips and tucks she’s accumulated over the past year is her expression and posture. When I drew the first Dorothy, what was most prominent about her to me was “She Wants To Dump Danny But Hasn’t Worked Up The Courage Yet,” and so her pensive, almost sad look made sense at the time. But that’s not really what Dorothy’s about, and it certainly hasn’t been what she’s been about since about October! I wanted a bit more of the gung-ho, studious Dorothy. So now she’s standing up right, smiling, and holding a book. The unfinished sketch in the middle had a more interesting pose, I think, but I didn’t like her head being down and her posture needed to be more defiant, so I started over with the finished version on the right. Physical things that seem to have changed: Head’s smaller. Body’s thinner. Her clothes fit. Dropped coloring the lower lip at some point.
ETHAN IS GAY
When he said he was gay last week, that might have been a clue!
This has been an unfortunately necessary public service announcement. You may return to, undoubtedly, continuing to ask every day if Ethan is gay in this universe.
(He is.)
“Angry Birds” by Jen Aside
“Introducing Bible Belt” by Brian Daniel.
Stoolie the Amazi-Stool is the most popular Dumbing of Age character, isn’t he? God dammit.
(Art by Brian Daniel, of course.) “JoyceXBillie” fan art by RebLaw
You’ve read her fanfic, now see the illustration! RebLaw envisions a world where Joyce and Billie can maybe share some special time together. If you know what I mean. She visited me in person at Wondercon and gave me the rough draft of this art, and it’s great to see it finished and in color!
