I think back once again to the Canada ark when Joyce was switched genders and said that he/or is she still she, oh so confusing, couldn’t keep the blood out of her pants and keep it in the brain.
Should she be making these sorts of promises… I mean, she doesn’t really know that her editor isn’t going to pull a J. Jonah Jameson vs. Spider-Man on Joe and screw the story to be more inflammatory against him.
She said “work with me and we can shape the narrative to your benefit”. I don’t think she’s considered what might happen afterwards, but she hasn’t made any promises about it one way or the other.
She’s assuring him that if he does an interview with her, she’ll write something that benefit him, as opposed to other reporters who will make a fool of him for the sake of overblowing the story. She’s implying that anything she writes will save him issues. She never said “I’ll try” or “with any luck”. She makes it pretty clear she’ll have his back on this story essentially. If her editor decides she wants the story to go a different way and edits it, Joe’s going to feel betrayed isn’t he?

I’d say that Joe’s smart enough to know what the drill is with the editorial process, but I suspect the only time Joe knows anything about drills is when “Drill” is a euphemism. Drilling, plowing, nailing and screwing, various acts of plumbing, he’s a regular handyman within the right context.
