She became a Canadian citizen after she escaped from her school once and drove cross country just to spite her parents and the country they live in.
Mkvenner
Except For the fact that would only work if one of her parents was already a Canadian citizen or in the process of becoming one (if under 18).
Luzahn
Silence, you reasonable person. There’s no place for your sort here. =P
Mr. Random
Considering that in The Walkyverse Sal was shown to be very similar to her mom, and I’m not sure but I think it’s implied She was like Her mother, we can assume that there is an unbroken chain of the family going back dozens of generations. It’s the only logical conclusion.
AckAckAck
Are you saying that Sal’s great ancestor was Leia Organa?
inkwell
Thank you for this. That made my day.
gangler
Sal doesn’t play by your rules.
Mkvenner
Except this a law not a rule. The RCMP is only polite when the press is watching.
slicedtoad
what does the RCMP have to do with becoming a citizen? The RCMP are similar to the American FBI. Except they also do parades with red costumes and horses…
Mkvenner
you are more likely to run into a RCMP constable than a Canada Border Services Officer.
John
I don’t think I’ve ever actually encountered a Mountie, but I almost got busted for kidnapping by Canadian Border Services one time.
Andrew_C
They also engage in massive corruption, deal in drugs, take bribes, abuse prisoners and have murdered several people.
inkwell
But the border services people are so nice! At least over here on the far west coast. Trying to get back is terrible, but the Canadian side are so pleasant!
I’ve once read somewhere that if you committed a crime in Canada, the Mounties would hunt you down – wherever you go.
Cue images of a Mountie walking out of the waves on a beach in Spain, gunning down a fugitive and disappearing again.
Where I’m from we theorize that the main reason for the US not spying on Canade is fear – fear of the Mounties.
AckAckAck
“The Mountie always gets his man”
Cybersnark
Haven’t you seen Due South?
There are very few things that can truly piss off a Mountie, but when they do…
Mkvenner
Actually they can only do that in case of crimes against humanity and crimes commited within 24nmi of the coastline. If you flee across the border after commiting any crime other than a crime against humanity the have follow the same process as everyone else.
David
I thought it was the result of American beer.
No wait, it was the result of making love in a canoe. I knew it was fscking close to water in some respect.
Sal was bitten by a radioactive Canadian chain-smoking biker, thus giving her the powers of AMAZI-GIRL! (And a penchant for motorcycles, smoking and giving The Man the finger.)
AckAckAck
I want to know how she got bitten 😉
Ancestral Hamster
Sheer lust on the biker’s part … couldn’t help himself. He then avoided the knee in the ‘nads, but then Sal planted her right fist in his solar plexus, a left to the jaw, then she picked him up and threw him through the bar’s front window. The biker still thinks it was worth it.
The Candyman
But where would she get the urge to fight crime in the night?
Um, why are we talking about Sal? Isn’t Amazi-girl Amber?
Or am I missing something?
Ancestral Hamster
Running joke. We the audience know that Amber is Amazi-Girl, but at various times someone will say how X is really Amazi-Girl and cite “evidence”. Other people will either run with it, or cite “counter-evidence” to show how X isn’t Amazi-Girl, but Y is.
NaYa
Right, I realized that after I posted my comment. LOL
Silly me, the joke went right over my head.
Hey, lay off them! They are coping very well with having a child who is such a disappointment, thank you very much. Considering that they had to deal with 18 years of Danny in the house, they are practically saints.
What is STAGGERING is how often I hear people make such sweeping statement and mean them, often in spite of good impressions in a petty ‘I was right about you!’way.
This though pattern must be stopped. Where are you, sociology man?
…Okay, I can’t tell. Are you speaking in favor of Thor’s comment, or against it?
Zach
Against. His parents are being cruel. On purpose. Note that they are walking away from him.
kujazlilmage
Danny’s parents seriously bother me. They were making me get frowny feelings since the last strip where they suddenly seemed to hit a flat note when Danny said he and Dorothy broke up, but now I really am not a fan. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the way they are treating him here is somehow linked to the reason why Danny was so annoying at certain points.
Heavensrun
Keep in mind the relevation that he and Dorothy had broken up came after they saw Dorothy’s parents and chatted cheerfully with them and suggested they all go out to lunch later as though their children were still dating, thus demonstrating to the Keeners that they have NO IDEA what’s going on in their son’s life. Then he made a tasteless joke about their other son dying in Afghanistan, which is probably something they legitimately worry about often.
Sharon’s line still bothers me. She asks her son whether his current girlfriend is better than his ex, and when he refuses to answer, automatically assumes the answer is no.
Maybe he just doesn’t want to comment because his answer could get back to either one of them and piss them off. I mean, it’s not like she’s asking in a closed car, with only family or close friends. She’s asking in the middle of campus, where anyone nearby could be friends with one or the other.
Being cruel to their children is a favored hobby of many parents.
It doesn’t mean they don’t love as well.
Andy
Being cruel in ways that aren’t likely to cause emotional trauma is a favored hobby of parents. For instance, holding your kids down and tickling them is a classic. So is threatening to bring out the embarrassing pictures when they bring a date home. Belittling your child? Not so much.
Yeah, Danny’s parents aren’t just being dicks, they’re being emotionally and psychologically abusive.
DudeMyDadOwnsADealership
Long story short, Danny gets his Danny-ness from his parents’ sorry example. I mean, come on, they were going on about how much of a good life plan clinging to someone else’s like a parasite is before they learned it wasn’t going to happen! Something tells me Danny’s brother CHOSE the army over college to get away from this sinking ship full of shoes…and availability….Hmmm, wonder how man pairs of shoes Danny’s Dad owns?

See? He IS Joyce!
zomgvampires
That was my exact first thought.

Mine too.
Totz the Plaid
Nah, at least I’ve got some sympathy for Joyce.
AckAckAck
I dunno, I don’t have sympathy toward Joyce when I read Roomies’ early strips. I only grew to like her during Walky and Joyce & Walky pace.

No, his parents are actually extremely nice, at least in the Walkyverse

That’d be pretty cool to see.
