I think both Joyce and Jocelyn may for the moment get a small allowance from their father (can’t picture Carol as a working mother) which I think would likely continue at the minute even with everything even if maybe Hank has to keep it a secret from Carol
JQuire
Or a mandatory freshman foodplan which are generally pre-paid at the beginning of the term/year.
Well, after all that swearing she did earlier she should have at least $20. Although judging by the face she made when Sarah (or maybe Joe, I can’t remember) offered it to her, I’m doubting she actually took it.
There’s probably going to be a pic coming up with him lounging on a throne made of chicken fingers, scarfing down more chicken fingers, and laughing at us.

Yeah, and it makes my ride hella smooth!

The solution will be precipitating like crazy!
Well, you just opened the floodgate. Congratulations.
Agreed. Willis is doing a great job with this character I identify strongly with. I can’t make ECCC this year – again – but I wish I could so I could do a nice understated Jocelyne cosplay.
feli
Joss is a real cutie and I love her, especially cause she’s a writer 😀
But I wonder, how do you get approved for gender reassignement (is that the right term? I just dictionary-d it) in the US?
In Germany it’s a long process with therapy and involves dressing up as your prefered gender in public, coming out to your peeps … that wouldn’t go too well for Joss 🙁
So, I’ve been living under a rock, apparently. In-comic everyone calls the character Joshua, and in the comments here, everyone calls them Jocelyne. I don’t quite understand what’s going on.
Hey, writers are artists, sure, but they also have their own word for their specific type of arting. Let the drawing people have this one.
StClair
So do painters, illustrators, sculptors, musicians, weavers, woodworkers, glassblowers… shall I go on? As I said, my medium is words; I know lots of them.
Questionor
cept if someone says they are a painter alone instead of artist most just think of a house painter.
KHNO
For the musicians, artist is for me an insult (but performer is not). There are way too many people who call themselves (and that labels call) artists and just say two unrelated sentences in a mic which you hear only after a bunch of voice corrections – that, to me, is way too conceptual. I remember month of programming gigs for a place where people wanted “this artist” to come. You could recognize those who couldn’t make music for their lives. The other humbly (or not humbly) themselves musician.
Independent Film and Video Game makers. Yes, there are artistic interactive audio/visual computer programs. Some of them are actually okay “games”, but it’s not assured.
God, I am so sorry. I hope your loans are paid off in full soon, because god… 7 years is far too long.
Doctor_Who
About 1.5 more years.
‘snot so bad. I had the misfortune of graduating in spring of ’09, just after the economy took a dive. Even with a useful degree, jobs were scarce in my area. Had to move out of state to find one, and that cost a ton, so I had to get an extension on the loans for a while.
But now I’m back home, paying it all off, got a nice place, and a decent savings. It just took a couple years longer than it should have to get there. Plenty of people my age in worse situations.
ischemgeek
Why I went to grad school. Jobs in clean tech were scarce to begin with and only got scarcer with the Harper Majority.

Can’t complain too much. Got my current job as a direct result of grad school and my current job is effing awesome so it really was for the best. Not at all where I ever thought I’d end up but I wouldn’t trade it.

I’m in the US. I first took out loans in 1998. I may pay them off by the time I’m 50 or 55. Maybe.

I wonder how much money Joyce has on her.
Pantheon the Mantheon
Shes a college student so she’s probably not much better off. Can confirm, am in school, do only have $12 left for food for the week.
HMH
To be fair, Joyce probably has an allowance.
ShawnL
For now.

How guilty was Billie feeling the last time she saw her?
Wheelpath
Yeah, there’s so much tension, will she or won’t she be able to get chicken fingers?
Shaunock
I’m hanging on to this arc eventually getting to chicken fingers.
Give the people what they want, Willis!

There is just so much suspension!

Well, now *I* want chicken fingers.
This can’t possibly end well.
Clif
Well it either ends well for you or it ends well for the chicken.
Horerczy
Pretty sure it didn’t end well for the chicken either way.
Badtux
Somewhere there are fingerless chickens wondering what happened.
DSL
That chicken’s got one finger left. And it’s making sure we see it.
davidbreslin101
Reminds me of what they did to Dapper Duck in the very, very creepy comic “Three Fingers.” “A duck…. got…. feathers, not fingers”
Tacos
No chicken fingers for chu! >:O
Pantheon the Mantheon
Honestly, that’s the greatest way to start off the comments section.
MaybeI'maMaze
Pretty dang solid.
I’d have gone with, “…and a little more came out.”
Neeks
Or “and A LOT less ‘joshua’.”
MaybeI'maMaze
Ooh, good one!

I told this to my writing professor then he laughed and then he cried.

Yeah, never ask a teacher what it’s like to have money.

May I please add that it is one of my greatest joys in life to finally find the panel that, whatever your newest gravatar is, is from?

Buddy can you spare a dime?
The wait staff must be getting itchy fingers by now …

Lets just add “Can I borrow 10 Dollars” to the end of every comic from now until it gets really awkward.

Yeah, she’s broke. Kinda obvious. :p

As a trans girl, I am in love with her. I was practically begging for her to appear in more strips. I am not disappointed.

Jocelyne is a trans woman, but she is in the closet to her family and most of the characters in the strip, who all refer to her as Joshua/he.

i think that last panel could work for artists to.

Writers are artists. Their medium is words.

true but by saying writer or artist you differentiate your medium like a sculptor or something helps people know what type you are.

And I, a graphic designer, am a musician.
And Dwayne The Rock Johnson is a politician.

If it’s a form of creative expression it’s art.

IT can be an art form. It takes practice to keep racks of switches and patch panels from looking like this.

All writers are artists but not all artists are writers. Its like rectangles and squares.

“All writers are artists”
If you output as writer becomes so predictable that i can be replaced by a computer, then maybe not?
Some writers these days are artificial!
