      I think Dorothy is starting to realize she’s not as important as she thinks. It’s good for Dan to move on, but she’d prefer he moon over her for a month or longer because she was such a big part of his life. College life hasn’t been as bad for her as Billie, but even the newspaper assignment is beneath her and she knows it.

        I agree that this is a legitimate reason for her to feel shocked. Four days ago he was talking about marriage. On the other hand, there’s feeling shocked and then there’s talking trash.     If this is some of that “wingman” stuff that Joe is supposedly “best at,” he better ride that Roz scandal for all it’s worth, because much like K-Fed, he isn’t going to build himself a future with his TALENT.

    I mean, yeah, okay, it does LOOK like Danny just went out and found a substitute-Dorothy. But I’m not sold. I can’t really see Dorothy moonlighting as a masked avenger or Amber as an investigative journo.

    Poor Danny actually handled panel 1 about as well as he plausibly could have. But if he manages to hold on to shy Amber in the face of this crapstorm, I’ll be astounded.

Based on how they met and interact, it’s just pure coincidence. he noticed that had a lot in common and is diggin that. Hell, they aren’t even dating. they flirted a little and now they are going to play some vidya games.

    To play the Devil’s Advocate:
    Dorothy’s been deliberating for months over what she’s supposed to do regarding Danny. He followed her to school so she’s feeling super guilty over it and then he immediately finds someone else after she finally ends it. If she knew it would have been that easy she wouldn’t have kicked herself so much over it.

    I think she isn’t in the position just because she said earlier how it would have been a greater gift to break up with him sooner, implying she lost feelings even before when she actually broke up with him. Plus, he’s not dating her, he just likes her, that’s human nature to find someone attractive and try to go after it.

    Now, I’m kinda torn on my feeling here. On one hand, I can totally appreciate Dorothy’s disgruntled “So just four days” remark. After all, the idea that your ex has moving on hurts, even if you were the one to break up with them. Seeing it happen after less than a week is worse.

    But on the other hand, Dorothy broke up with Danny. She has no say in his dating life anymore. Did she expect him to spend the rest of his life whining about how he lost her and never moving on?

    But then again, its only been four days. That kinda suggests Danny’s feeling for the relationship weren’t as strong as we were led to believe.

    But THEN AGAIN, Danny and Amber aren’t doing anything yet. Yes, Danny flirted a bit with Amber, but they haven’t gone on an official date or had sex or made any formal declarations about a relationship.

    So, in short, I understand both sides, and neither are right nor wrong in my opinion. They’re both kinda screwed up.

      The relationship could have meant the world to him, and I’m pretty sure it did. Still no reason not to seek out new pastures. The old one is unavailable to him now.

      I don’t really see how the speed with which he moves on is indicative of how much he valued the dead relationship. Unless this is just Dorothy playing hard to get, in which case she really needs to get better at that. Is there like a gamefaq or rulebook we could direct her to?

    Dorothy can just go to hell. While yes, Danny is a lame push-over for boyfriend material, Dorothy is one of those spoiled girlfriends that only thinks about herself. If she wants a career with a specific school, that’s fine, but to ditch someone on the first day of moving to campus like that, that is insulting!

    Then, she complains not because Danny isn’t with her, but because Danny has something she doesn’t have! She sees her status in life as “single” or “in a relationship” in the same way she would see her social status defined by the type of luxury car she drives, or the brand of soda she drinks.

    The fact Danny and Amber are relatively happy and understand each other just further gets under her skin, because it rubs salt into the wound of “oh, my life based on acquisitions isn’t going as planned!” with “someone who is less than me has more than what I have!”

      I’ve had a girlfriend I broke up with start working her way through my social circle before the week was over. I can genuinely say I lost no sleep over it. Puzzling more than anything else really. Briefly wondered if she was trying to get back at me before deciding that train of thought was just narcissism speaking and moving on.

        I’d be far more concerned about WTF is wrong with my friends at that point. There are RULES, man. There’s a CODE. The current and past girlfriends of your friends are off limits. The speed at which she moved on would be discouraging, but only in the sense that I would be worried she had been cheating on me. Dorothy knows better, and so doesn’t have anything to be grumpy about.

          There’s a time limit on that, though. How long depends on the friendship, like for Joe, it was afterwards, but most of the time, it’s at least a year.

      Depends on the person, really. I’ve seen one relationship that broke up and one member was expected to move on immediately and ridiculed for not doing so, and the other moved on and got hate for it.

    I’m not quite sure I’d take it as far as you did. Acquisitions are an integral part of life. Whether you seek skills, joy, power, or more tangible things a life where one does not seek to acquire is a life unlived.

    I also don’t feel we have sufficient evidence to believe she wants relationships exclusively for social status. I have a feeling she never would have been dating Danny in the first place if that was the case. He’s probably more damaging to the ol’ status than being single ever could have been, and lord knows a smart go-getter like her with looks and money could do way better than Danny from a social status perspective anyway.

    That aside I agree wholeheartedly. Quite self centered, a bit of a dick, and might I add massively weak willed as well? If she had even half a spine she would have taken care of all that danny business long before any of this was an issue rather than just waiting and expecting him to choose a different school.

    Being snarky about how your former boyfriend is devlopping new relationship is simply firbidden to you. Jalousy and ressent are feeling are feeling you are not allowed to have. You wanted it that way, you have it!

    Now enjoy that danny is moving over you. The only words you are allowed to pronounce is “I am happy for you and hope you will be OKEY”.

    I just realized that Dorothy’s upset at Danny ‘finding’ someone else ‘after four days’ when SHE’S the one who dumped him!

    Guess her high and mighty plans that didn’t want to get dragged down by Danny didn’t include the fact the thought she was irreplaceable in his life.

    Am I the ONLY one who doesn’t seem to think that Dorothy needs to burn at the stake for being a little upset that her ex-boyfriend’s already bringing home other girls not even a full week after they broke up? I mean, sure, she’s the one who dumped him (and for his own sake, since he would’ve just wasted his future away with her), but that doesn’t mean that she can’t still have feelings. :/

    Seriously, if this was in real life, people would be saying Danny’s a manwhore.

      No, but seriously I don’t think I’d have any complaints if she displayed hurt feelings after leaving. Getting all critical of Danny’s lovelife to his face though, in a manner that paints him as some form of common floozy no less, is just so far from classy. It’s not that she’s upset, it’s that she’s apparently so upset that she can’t even maintain a civil facade for the five minutes it takes to get out of there, or that she’s just such a self centered, rude, and petty person that she doesn’t even care to be polite about all this. I mean, I can literally think of no way to interpret this behavior positively.

      She’s not demonic or anything. We’re just seeing a bit of an uglier side to her personality right now.

        Well, it’s not like she’s even being that horrible about it. She’s not screaming, or hitting, or even saying really anything that nasty. Sure, that could all change in tomorrow’s strip, but today’s strip? All she said was, “So just four days, huh?”

        And yeah. This isn’t a way to interpret this behavior positively. Dorothy’s not being the most polite of people here, I’ll concede that. But she’s hardly being as horrible as some of these comments are making her. She made one comment, guys. Calm down.

          It may have been one comment, but it was still highly uncalled for, especially considering that she broke his heart those four days ago.

          Now, I’m not saying she’s a horrible person for it. To be honest, I can’t say I wouldn’t want an ex to pine for me for a whil, or at least take their time getting over me. That’s just human ego at work. And she actually does have a bit of right to feel a little hurt. The way Danny acted before made it seem as though she were the most important thing in his life. To see him move on so quickly would raise some speculation as to the sincerity of said behavior.

          But one of the cruxes here is, that there’s no real basis for her to accuse Danny of anything. Making the comment she did, in the tone her expression implies means her jumping to conclusions and judging him for them when all he’s done so far is walk into his room with a friend who happens to be female. Did he flirt with her, yes? Does he want something to come out of this? Who can say? In any case, Dorothy knows none of this, and yet she still took it upon herself to open her snippy little trap.

          Yeah, it was a human thing to do, likely any one of us would have done it. I can’t say I wouldn’t. But it was still a harsh move on her part.

          As for the harsh response she’s getting, weeeelllll…We’re still getting to know her character here. So far, she hasn’t done much to garner sympathy in her corner. I think she did Danny a service in breaking up, sure, buts she’s still coming off as very cold. It’s not the type of character that drums up much support, and one that many people are the most eager to dump on.

          tl;dr version: She done goofed, and I don’t think a lot people like her yet. 😀

          Yeah, I get that. I dunno, I just think that she’s young and emotional. She was damn near to tears when she and Danny were discussing Yale and Danny’s hope that she’ll change her mind about it. I think she just needs some time to mature.

          But I guess until then, it’s off to the stake for her~

      I think she’s overreacting a little bit when they’re still just friends/acquaintances though.

    Mostly because my ex only dumped me because he was high, and I refused to get back together with him.

    I… I understand everyone saying that Dorothy has no right to be jealous, and think so as well. But what I think the point was, was that he was so broken up about them breaking up that four days seems like a complete turnaround. I’d be confused if someone i broke up with acted like Danny and then a few days later had another girl on his arm.

    I find it weird that so many people are going “Dorothy broke up with Danny, so he has every right to date someone else and Dorothy shouldn’t be jealous” but come on–this guy chased you to college, wanted to marry you, and then when you break up with him, apparently has a new girl four days later? If I were Dorothy, I wouldn’t be jealous, I’d be stone-cold PISSED. It would be one thing if Dorothy cheated on Danny, but by latching onto someone else, it’s like he doesn’t value what they had anymore. Just because Dorothy broke up with him doesn’t mean she still doesn’t care about him (I mean, she’s still talking to Joe), but the way Danny’s acting gives the impression that their entire relationship was worthless.

    I think the thing everyone seems to be missing is that Danny isn’t armed with a bottle of Tequila (Panty peeler!) and a Chick flick (Although, in Amber’s case, MLP may count as the latter) He’s starting a basically healthy friendship.

    Is he supposed to avoid all contact with girls until Dorothy’s arbitrary deadline is satisfied? Screw that, his game is nowhere close to that good. Get while the gettin’s good. Godspeed Danny, You fancy bastard.
