This, according to Faz will help to develop the boys into Woke young men—just like their hero, Faz.
I mean, I want to punch Joe in the faaace, but now, to do so, I would need to touch Faz. Either to shove him out of the way, or to simply punch through him, I would have to touch Faz, and that makes me stop.
Would Faz actually be considered Joe’s step-brother? He’s tangentially related to Amber because they share a (step-)father, but Joe would fall into Amber’s family via his dad marrying Amber’s mom. So Faz would be his… brother twice removed? Or something?
I’m also really confused about this. If Faz is Amber’s step brother, they aren’t blood relatives. So Amber’s dad married Faz’s mom, or has been living with her long enough that Amber is expected to consider Faz her step brother. If Amber’s mom marries Joe’s dad, Amber and Joe will be step-siblings but Faz and Joe will be completely unrelated. In fact, even if Faz was Amber’s half brother instead of step, he still wouldn’t be any relation to Joe because Faz and Amber share a different half.
Well, Amber is more familiar with the details of the situation than we are. What if there are things we don’t know or assumptions we are making based on the previous universe.

No, the removed refers to the number of generations that have been “removed” from one side of the divide (how many generation before a common ancestor), although the way the numbering works (the smaller generation number is used), it’s more like adding. This video helps explain it.

While that wouldn’t be the legal term that applies, whether they would have a sibling-esque relationship depends on the relationship between Stacy and Blaine. If the two are still on cordial terms and do joint family holidays and such, which is a thing in some cases, then at the very least, Joe and Faz would be expected to develop some kind of siblingish, or at the very least cousin-ish relationship. That being said, Joe is an adult, so he might be immune to that expectation.

Faz and Amber are treating each other as pretty well acquainted step-siblings, which wasn’t the impression I’d gotten from his first appearance – though that might have been just that she was so focused on Blaine she didn’t have time to acknowledge Faz.
When she first sees Blaine she says she hasn’t seen him in years, so when did this sibling type relationship have a chance to develop?

I read their relationship more as cop(vigilante) and criminal – Amber considers Faz scum that it’s her responsibility to keep in custody and out of trouble, and Faz considers Amber little more than an impediment to his fun.

Same. I don’t see it as them being ‘well-acquainted’ at all because Faz blatantly states creepy things repeatedly out loud within five minutes of being seen. Most people related to such a person in some way even if not by blood would try to a) control such a person and b) try to get them back to whoever should be in charge of them.
I see it more like how uncles try to reign in nephews or older siblings try to reign in younger siblings or babysitters try to reign in kids generally – it doesn’t signify closeness or knowing each other well, just that the more mature/older one doesn’t want the younger/immature one to run rampant and bother other people.

This is more to do with being an engineering major, than anything else. We use to take turns, during Trig class, with the electrical people, staring daggers because this part of the class was “all their fault”, while the other group did the work with blindfolds on, behind their backs. Meanwhile, the math majors kept their heads down, hoping that we wouldn’t realize that it was really all their fault.
I don’t think they did. I did an archive binge on Shortpacked at one point, and Joe’s not really in it super often, I don’t recall him interacting with Faz. Mostly brushes with Ultra Car and a handful of others.

Joe has practiced for years at being shallow and sleazy, which is not quite the same as being creepy, so even with his later start Faz has been able to make up ground and surpass him by being focused on the true goal.
