I think there was a Slipshine which touched on that subject but i haven’t seen it.
Taffy
Oh, her subject got touched on, alright. Unless she’s had a lot of work done, I’m like 99.9999(repeating, of course)% sure she’s cis.
Harmony
… that’s pretty standard work for a trans girl in a progressive area, no where close to what I’d consider “a lot” of work done.
Start transitioning before puberty, GRS, and that’s pretty much all she’d need to look how she does if she was trans.
Taellosse
If you are wondering what equipment package is in Dina’s pants, she is definitively the wielder of a vagina.
I’m not sure gender expression is an aspect of her identity that Dina’s yet spent a lot of thought on, though – her neurodivergence, and the associated struggles with social and institutional inflexibility towards that divergence, seem to have occupied most of her thoughts about identity so far. That said, it would not shock me if, down the line, Dina were to arrive at some form of nonbinary gender identity. Not saying I expect that, but it’d be a plausible evolution of her character if it did.
i mean, nothing wrong with that as long as it’s not fetishized (and becky isn’t the type to be one of those dudebro fuckbois who are like “i’m attracted to ‘crazy’/mentally unstable women”)
There is a bit of an overlap of trans and autistic ppl, at least on tumblr so becky would prolly find some ppl within the lgbt community that’d also be an aspect of what she’s attracted to
In all honesty it’s probably that, through the years, Becky built up an image of ideal partner in her mind based on Joyce and then, subconsciously, identified lots of the same traits in Dina and fell for her.
Devin
This is what I was thinking as well, especially since Becky got together with Dina before she was necessarily fully over Joyce. It makes sense that overlapping traits would attract her.
I would think that her type is the straightforward, doesn’t mince words, “this is who I am for better or worse” type. Both Joyce and Dina are very much who they are. Neither is good at disseminating. Whether from autism or not, Becky’s type might be people who don’t play games. She likes relationships with people who don’t play games and who she can anticipate from one moment to the next. In other words, the exact opposite of the environment she had growing up where her dad was full of hypocrisy and twisting his professed values to serve the agenda that he wanted.
In contrast to her dad, Joyce was always consistent with her faith. She always tried to follow the bible to the best of her ability and tried to adjust her understanding of the bible to meet the standards of what she understood to be right with growing knowledge of the changing world around her. When she was not able to reconcile the whole bible to what she knew to be right, she had to abandon one of them because she is very all-or-nothing. And she chose the one that she thought was genuinely right even though it hurt her to give up everything familiar to her.
Dina embraces the world of facts. Her values and beliefs center fully around empirical evidence. This is something that she has never deviated from because if the evidence points to something else, she goes with it because that is the value attached to science.
This brought back a shitty high school memory. I had a crush on a girl who was autistic. I liked how smart and no-nonsense she was. I mentioned it to a (then) friend, who was like “No way, you can’t date her, she’s autistic! Sure, she’ll be easy, but someone just has to tell her that it’s normal to gangbang the whole football team and she’ll do it, she doesn’t know any better!”
Obviously, I now know that nothing about that assessment was true, but I’m ashamed to admit I believed it enough to change my mind about asking her out at the time.
Anyway the moral of the story is high schoolers are stupid and cruel and I’m sorry to anyone who currently is one.
Yeah, this sounds right. The autistic neurotype can be attractive to someone without fetishism or taking advantage of someone vulnerable or bs like that.
I actually like/appreciate Becky’s response here, and I sincerely hope that Joyce does as well. No reaction to possible autism is just about as perfect a response as one would hope. i.e. I see Becky’s response as a positive confirmation that she could care zero fucks whether Joyce is or isn’t. She’s Joyce, still her BFF, if not love reciprocal.
Joyce’s immediate, expressed concern was about Becky treating her differently, so I actually think a response of “this makes me reflect more on myself than it changes my perception of you” is pretty good.
Honestly came here to say this. Provisionally willing to deal with it if it ends with one fewer person casually stomping all over Joyce in the name of friendship or protecting her from herself or whatever.
I mean, considering it’s about her attraction to Joyce, it the most Joyce-centric reaction Joyce has gotten thus far. Everybody else was pretty much talking out their own issues with Joyce as the rubber ducky.

Just to be clear, my comment was meant as a joke along the lines of “undercover police have to tell you if you ask, or else it’s considered entrapment” thing, which isn’t true but comes up in media a lot. Wasn’t thinking of the “trap” connection there.
Oh sure sure. obviously. Sorry for seeming to imply that
Also, I’m sorry for using that phrase out of the blue even within the context of linking to Contrapoints. That’s not cool, hope that didn’t trigger anyone. Ok back to my void
Yumi
Honestly, I figured you got what I meant, but was worried about other people coming along later and being unsure.
thejeff
Isn’t it more like the opposite of entrapment here?
becky also knows about the pills because she was present for the conversation immediately preceding this scene where joyce yelled at everyone for hassling her about the pills.
and also for all the conversations before that about learning to take the pills. and the conversation before that about dorothy going with joyce to get the pills and also the conversation before THAT with jennifer where she said joyce should go to the doctor and GET the pills so yeah she knows about the pills XDD
StClair
“Ohhh, right. The pills. The pills for Joyce. The pills prescribed specially for Joyce. Joyce’s pills.”
i dk if she’s mentioned any other chara’s she’s attracted to outside of some fictional examples/celebs, but i suppose it’s the passion/knowledge on things, and i’d assume a neurotypical can be equally as passionate about it without it being a ‘hyperfixation’
I think she was just in love with Joyce for years and when that didn’t work out she subconsciously recognized that Dina has many of the same traits as Joyce and things went from there.
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if yes Becky had a “type” consisting of traits that have a heavy overlap with / entirely fall within the Venn circle of common autistic neurotype traits. Sincerity, straightforwardness, being strongly “into” something to and past the point of “weirdness” from the point of view of other people (and it’s not unlikely Becky would have thought Joyce knew how she was viewed by others and didn’t give a shit), liking to /talk/ about the thing they’re into, etc.
Like, yeah, there’s a lot of things about being autistic that can easily be attractive to someone who’s into that.
Possible autism traits aside Joyce and Dina do have a lot in common. Not sure how much of that is possible autism but they are very similar so Becky does have a type, and that type is tops.
I think there is an argument to be made that Joe’s hopes will come true. When he finally confessed his feelings to Joyce, she seemed to delight in the knowledge, and in the fact that she could use it to make him squirm. Not in a malicious way at all, but that she liked being in charge- a fact that she more or less admitted to later, when she said she liked being on top of a social interaction for a change. I think it’ll take a lot of careful exploration, but I’d say the basic impulse is definitely there.
Sirksome
I think she has the energy. This latest semester arc has shown Joyce has a mean and aggressive side, definitely more than Becky does. Given the opportunity she can take charge very easily. Dina on the surface doesn’t seem like a top either but we all know the dinosaur that lurks underneath.

She also could have told us that. And she did. Repeatedly. No matter how much we begged

Lotsa pennies dropping this storyline.

… I thought that said penises.
And I was like, yeah, Becky has no interest in picking those up.

See, that right there. Those are the really hurtful assumptions about us we really need to STOP. ?
On that note, Joyce x Joe is very much welcome, as we need to do what we can to break the “sexless autistic” stereotype. (-_-)

Tbh this is how I read it. Becky likes women who can talk to her about something that’s important to them, that she might not know as much about.
Liliet
And are also straightforward, instinctively honest… There’s a lot to like in common autistic traits.
angie
me and the bad bongo I pulled by being autistic
Kyrik Michalowski
Does Becky actually have an attraction to ladies who may or may not be autistic? Or is this just coincidence?
Also, who else thought she was going to tell Becky about the birth control thing. Or does Becky already know?

She already knows about the bc pills as in she came to comfort Joyce being anxious over it.

Likely a coincidence. A sample size of three isn’t very large and even then we have no data on the third being autistic.

She’s been attracted to at least two autistic women now. I’m not sure if that means that’s Becky’s type, or if it’s just a coincidence.
