How vintage? Because if you have a G1 Mimic in good condition then yeah, price check now. (With Hasbro doing the anniversary reissues Iād guess demand would drop a bit if/when they get to her.)
Nah, I never found her for a decent price. Tbh at this point I don’t even remember what I’ve got, except that I took a special shine to the cookery ponies and have at least two of each of them
I’ve been collecting vintage MLP since the mid 80s.
I currently have around 300 G1s, in good or better condition.
I was very anal as a child, and still have all their accessories as well.
They’re worth enough that I have collector’s insurance on them.
I assume my children will sell them after I die, because there’s no way in fuck I’m going to.
**puts on hipster glasses**
I was an obsessive MLP fan before it was cool.
The dinosaur stays the same age, just like the Coelophysis from The Picture of Norian Gray.
Man, I hope someone else is dorky enough to appreciate this joke.
Anything polyhedral š My collection is becoming a bit ridiculous, honestly, I’ve got my dice blog linked in my username
Regalli
… I kind of need those ace pride dice and I donāt even play tabletop games like ever, thank you for introducing me to this Kickstarter. (Also all the dice are beautiful. Which is how we all end up with so, so many, isnāt it.)
Pair of questions for a dice expert. Do dice sets ever come with a chip in the same design for coin flip moments? Are coins just two sided dice or to qualify does an object need to be a fully symmetrical polyhedron of some sort?
Oooh, nice one! It’s never been a standard thing but lately a few kickstarters have included a d2 as a stretch goal; two of them have taken the form of coins, but the Polyhero wizard themed set made it spellbook-shaped. I think either one works fine as long as the two sides are the same probability; after all, d10s aren’t regular polygons either, and they count
You might make a business of buying boring D2s, sprucing them up, and selling them at a profit. The best thing to do with a D2 is to flip it.
Inahc
lol š I read your comment to my husband, and mentioned it would probably spawn an entire thread of dice puns. his response: “well, that’s how they roll!”
Apparently Ethan uses that action figure to attract guys he’s interested in, like an anglerfish and a lure. Very clever Ethan, I need you to teach me your ways.
and the loser will have a cloud of dork shame over their head for the rest of their life, which is only slightly worse than the winner being around non-dorks
man dork war is hell

Nothing except a dork war lost can be half so pathetic as a dork war won.

…. well, I didn’t mean to stumble into a dork war about dork wars, but at least I won.
The collectible trading card game dorks gathered mile high stacks of spells and warriors. The video game dorks built an empire from their lust for cartridges and discs. The tabletop dorks shaped tin and cardboard into vast, imaginary empires.
I’m not sure, but I think he’s saying that geekiness isn’t able to be separated into degrees of coolness via interest, in this case ukulele vs dinobot.
No brand of geek is marginalized though. Nobody outside of high school has time to give a damn about your nerd hobbies one way or the other unless they share them.
thejeff
Still, given that they’re only a couple months out of high school, it’s not surprising some of the attitude carries over.
And while the attitude towards nerd hobbies has certainly changed, it’s not because of lack of time, it’s because a lot of them have gone mainstream. If it was “nobody has time to give a damn”, it would always have been true, but it wasn’t that long ago – certainly when I was in my twenties, that most of the nerd hobbies were looked down on as kid stuff at best.
Thank you both. I was thinking that Joe marginalizes Danny – at least re the ukelele – and that Joe is pretty much the definition of mainstream. Now trying to respect women, of course, which puts him ahead of the ruling U.S. party, which I reluctantly acknowledge must by considered mainstream (except trump lost the poular vote . . . It’s all so messed up).
Ethan is saying that Danny thinks that the way he is treated for being a geek counts as being marginalised, whereas in fact nothing much happens to Danny compared with the way that he, Ethan, is treated for being gay.
I don’t think it has anything to do with Ethan being gay.
Regalli
Yeah, no, especially since Dannyās bi and Ethan knows it. Comes with its own shitty challenges, which maybe Ethan doesnāt know about yet but then heād probably put Danny on the same ātierā. (There is the religious axis to take into consideration as well, but see previous: No one wins the Marginalization Olympics.)
I think Ethan is saying that liking transformers is more dorky and has more of a stigma than playing the ukelele (which is somewhat questionable in a world with like 8 transformers movies) and isn’t using it in a social justice sense. Toy collecting is still slightly below gunpla and Warhammer on the nerd hobby coolness scale, I think.

one of my better investments was getting Transmetal 2 Megatron and half-forgetting it MIB in my room at my parents’ house where
it was guaranteed to be safe effectively forever and finally deciding I needed to stop hoarding so much STUFF (which Mom does
anyway so they don’t need MY help) and putting it on eBay for 600% profit
which is to say I feel like I took Ethan’s allowance at some point

I collected vintage MLPs for a hot minute. A lot of them aren’t worth much, but there’s a few that I should probably price check sometime.

I managed to get the only one I cared about (Firefly) for like $10 with shipping, so idk
I had others but no idea which they were, since back then they were all pretty interchangeable, just pick which colours you liked best

The transformer that never changed.

Isn’t it the reverse? The dinobot keeps getting older but Ethan stays the same? š

So, what, a Transformers version of Dorian Gray?
MasakiSayz
Except that he’s always looking at it instead of never?

If Dinobot suddenly becomes his Masterpiece version the next time we see it then yes.

Saaaaaame, I’m getting one of each

Itās called Dungeons and Dragons because eventually you get enough dice to make a good hoard.
Deanatay
I’m fairly convinced that if your dice collection becomes large enough, you become an honorary dragon.
I know at least one person who qualifies.
Roborat
And there is always some special dice to be used for particularly important dice rolls.
Shiro
No prob! š I’m so excited for that kickstarter, it’s such a great theme
Inahc
what kickstarter? (I don’t play d&d, I’m not ace, and I still find myself drawn to this idea…)
Shiro
There’s more than just ace! A bunch of the more popular pride flags are being dice-ified š

I think it’s really cool how you can just look at a picture of a die and tell who made it and what it’s called.

D2 are rare but do exist, I have seen one or two in the wild. Usually people use a d4 odds or evens if they don’t have a coin to flip.

I’ve always wanted a 24-sided die, maybe a deltoidal hexahedron or one of the 24-sided Catalan icositetrahedra.

Dinobot loves only honor, Shakespeare, and melancholy brooding.
(Tsunderenobot would be hilarious, though.)

Tsunderenobot pretty much sums up his relationship with both Optimus and Rattrap.
