      I agree… although surely Sarah can’t be so dense as to think she emulates an ‘expert shopper’ vibe. Any moment now she’ll realize this is the panic over that beer stein being surgically attached to Joyce’s hand speaking.

        I thought that the idea was that Sarah wouldn’t put up with Joyce long enough to take her shopping, rather than that Sarah is not an expert shopper.

          my assumption was that Sarah is viewed by them as more “motherly/conservative” than “cool/current” and thus not the person to take shopping

          Probably a combination of all three: Sarah is viewed by them as more a “griping tower of anti-fun” than a “cool/current” girl, and thus not the person to take shopping. They’ve failed to realize that fear of what Billie may do with Joyce (on several levels) has overcome Sarah’s usual hatred of anything that might smack of entertainment.

    We have a small say here “Haz fama y echate a dormir” (make yourself famous (for something) and just go to sleep) meaning that once you get famous (or infamous) for something, you won’t get rid of that even if you do nothing.     this kind of hits home. my daughter (very young teen) was mostly an innocent Joyce til her “aunt Billie” started buying her makeup, deep vneck shirts, and miniskirts… now she thinks long shirts equal dresses and that brightly coloured brastraps showing equates to a fashion statement. I feel your terror, Sarah 🙁
