With an almost certain batch of restraining orders from some of the victims against them even when a corrupt, incompetent judge goes easy for them being “promising young men with their lives ahead of them”?

          School isn’t going to risk being sued over letting a bunch of violent felons come near their victims. The admins are always corrupt and useless, but not so stupid as to basically intentionally lose those lawsuits.

    There are some people who do the irl “supervillain” thing to help call attention to actually worthy causes, like a heel version of the rl superhero movement.

    I suspect the Incelerator is not one of these individuals. Just a hunch.

    the scariness of men like that in real life is not only that often they have high positions of power (like the latest president elect), it’s not only that it’s often men we know, people we work with or are part of our families, no, the scariest part is how our culture is completely marinated in sexism, it’s inescapable and thus things slide back on progress very easily.

    I guess I’m not interested in seeing a silly goofball villain who belongs to a hate group. it’s like having a Snidely Whiplash character whose villain theme is that he’s a white supremacist.

We can have both simplified and complex villains, and they do not devalue each other. Sometimes some people want a full course meal, and sometimes they just want a piece of bread.

      We do have ridiculous goofball villains that are part of hate groups, though. Adolf Hitler is a favorite in comic books. This did not seem to diminish peoples’ appreciation for the reality of the holocaust.

      Making fun of a person or ideology is actually a very effective real-world weapon against them. Chaining ourselves to seriousness is not necessary.

    So, this comic may land differently this time of year for a lot of us in Canada than it does elsewhere.

    We’re less than a week from the anniversary of the December 6th École Polytechnique massacre in 1989, when an armed man burst into a classroom at a Montreal engineering school shouting misogynist slogans about feminists. He separated the men from the women, and then opened fire on the women. He then roamed the building targeting more women before finally shooting himself. 14 women died — 12 engineering students, a nursing student and a staff member — and several more were wounded. Since then, this date has been marked in Canada as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

    I hope the Incelerator is just a buffoon whose comeuppance is about to arrive in the form of Sal, Carla or Amazi-Girl. (Or all three.) But I’ll be a little on edge until that happens, because this scene has some awfully dark antecedents.

    Everyone thinks Incelerator is a villain, because of the way he looks and acts and does villainy and is so unlikable I feel the need to clarify I’m doing a bit. But if he hadn’t shown up and changed the subject someone might have noticed that Jocelyne just made fun and downplayed of an incident where Joyce’s friend was literally fucking murdered. By arriving now, Incelerator spared Jocelyne an unbelievably uncomfortable conversation, taking Jocelynn’s social sins upon himself like a less fuckable Jesus.

    Society may hate him, and rightfully so, but Incelerator is the hero Indiana deserves, a geek so annoying he protects others from faux pas…es…?…
