That or the campus is currently warping space/time, and this is the wrong universe for that.
NCP19
Ethan not being gay warps space/time. This is why you don’t break canon, even in dreams.
Aydr
…the question is, did Willis ever confirm that none of the characters from this universe wouldn’t ever switch universes to one where stuff like universe switching can happen…?
Wixvhen
True enough point. I mean look at the aliens and such, they’re not even ‘real’. Imagine what other changes could take place here.
Depends how hard and fast Ethan re-entered the closet. Chances are this is real and he caused a mini-wormhole to appear on campus.
Can’t wait to see how Joyce treats Ethan when she wakes up. If she’s a typical woman he’ll get the blame for what she dreamt. Considering her ordeal at the end of book one, that may be pretty bad for Ethan.
Tualha
Wow, sexist much?
Somewhere, Definitely
Is it still sexist if it’s true? I suppose it could be. Associating negative personality traits with gender, even if a large amount of people share the same experience and can be called upon to validate the aforementioned negative traits… it’s still a blanket observation upon a very large and diverse group. It can’t be proven as a concrete fact no matter how many people come forward to testify its authenticity, because there’s always going to be an exception with individuals.
On the other hand… humans in general are predisposed towards avoiding blame. Both men and women are just as likely to attribute their problems to another person, and since the user Furie doesn’t specifically say that a typical man wouldn’t do the same thing. His or her statement COULD still be considered correct.
One could assume it’s a sexist statement, but it would only be an assumption. Without further information on the user Furie’s personal views, we can only guess as to his or her actual meaning. Unless the user Tualha is sexist, in which case he or she is sensitive to any remarks involving the subject and on the look out for them. Do people often find what they look for even if it isn’t necessarily there? Reading too far into imagined tones of voice within written text? Do I speculate far too much on why people get offended over stupid bull****? Perhaps. More speculation may be required.

How is it sexist? Way to say nothing and expect it to mean someting. This comic is a bit disturbing (the night invasion, the weird sexual reveral, etc.), but you are a twit begging for attention.

S/he was saying that the previous comment, that the “typical woman” would blame this dream on Ethan and get mad at him, is sexist. They were not commenting on the comic, they were commenting on someone else’ comment.
It was a pretty sexist comment. I don’t think I know any girls/women who, if they had a sexual dream, would get mad at the guy in it, whether they be religious, virgins, or none of the above.
ninja_jesus
It isn’t really sexist if you think of it from a writing point of view. The whole “having a dream about a person doing something wacky/odd/crazy, then waking up, attributing it to the real person and attacking them either verbally or literally for comedic effect” thing is a typical trope that’s used for freaky dream sequences like this. It isn’t gender or sex-related at all.
Salmo
It is when you justify the speculation with “typical woman” rather than with “writing trope”.
Kryss LaBryn
I expect it’s rather more that he’s really there and saying that, but she’s still half asleep and dreaming an entirely different context from what he means.
Mind you, I think most people who wake up to find the object of their desire in their bedroom in the middle of the night saying “I’m here because you want me to have sex with you” aren’t going to be expecting that to end with “–and I can’t. Ever. Because I’m gay.”
Dream? Ethan just slips out in the middle of the night while leaving Joyce on the wet patch and she THINKS it’s a dream. Then it turns out that it was Mike disguised as Ethan all along, the devious bastard.
Zanosuke Kurosaki
It would have to have involved drugs too, since that background is A. getting pretty trippy, and B. apparently her room back at home.

What if it’s Ryan, and she’s only DREAMING its Ethan?
Actually had a dream like that once, this would have been over 20 years ago. There was also a giant skeleton in a leathers and chains, with a frying pan trying to cook people.

However, she still seems perfectly willing to give in to it so long as no one finds out. That seems… I don’t think you get to yell “Premarital hanky panky!!” at anyone else and act all outraged and indignant if one is perfectly willing to indulge oneself, so long as you can pretend one didn’t.
–Hypocritical. Yeah, that’s the word I’m looking for.
Not really. This is a dream. Things happen and decisions are made in dreams that you would never make when you were awake. Though in retrospect it feels like you were in control, your subconsciousness is really what’s in the driver’s seat.
Joyce isn’t a hypocrite for dreaming about having sex. Her subconscious and unconscious mind are processing her feelings about having sex. That’s a major function of dreams, right there.
What this is, if anything, is a subconscious realization that her physical desires aren’t as controlled as she thinks they are. See also the ominous nature of Ethan’s entrance, and the reversion to her childhood bed, and the way the venetian blinds echo bars. This dream has gotten into the prison of Joyce’s desires, tempting the church to engulf and consume her for following those desires.
Reading the surface explanation into a sequence like this is generally a bad idea. And hypocrisy takes more than having the desire, even if that desire expresses in a dream.
Whether or not this is a bellweather for actual, waking events? Well, we’lkl see what happens next.
Tempux the Clock Demon of Lust has infiltrated your dreams, Joyce! Now he will scream silently as you dream of having premarital hanky panky with a gay man.
