Ladies and germs, we have the title of the next book – you can all go home now. ;D
Also Dina – needs work. Don’t worry, you’ll get it with practice (perhaps you could try giving the bazongas a squeeze and go “HOMPK!” ^^)
milu
it’s clear Dina consistently comes up with the best book titles. i move for Willis to change his rule of “no two book titles in a row may come from the same character” to “all book titles will henceforth be Dina quotes”
Clif
Don’t be greedy. We already have the promise of Willis that Dina will be on the cover from now on.
That’s exactly what I say everytime I see a pair of boobs. Maybe throw in a couple of huminas in there too. It’s really awkward when in life drawing sessions.
Well, at least that’s a start. Perhaps they’ll have better luck attempting to duplicate the circumstances of the first peripheral euphoria rush that occurred after science class?
“Did she just read Joe’s blog? Facebook? Twitter? Does he have a how-to guide out there? Am I allowed to go make a parody Joevice (advice from Joe) website?”
Becky has the same unique blend of repressed sexuality and extreme horniness that Joyce does. It can manifest in strange and potentially offputting ways.
Lil bit, yeah. Not sure many people are particularly aroused by the word “juices”. Like, not zero, but… it’s not real high up on the list of things non-becky people find sexy.
no, this is pretty much the kind of thing sexual people think about in the back of our heads all the time, we just don’t usually talk about it. gotta keep it buried under cultural mores, but hey, if you’re gonna bring it up, it’s gotta be to the person you’re in a potentially sexual relationship with.
I find it gross in an appealing kinda way. Something kinda primal about that idea supersedes the grossness of it for me. Like how the idea of “work up a good sweat” sounds kinda gross cuz sweat is gross” but it also gives you this imagery of a job well done.
I also identify under the ace umbrella, and I absolutely agree with you. While there is a possibility that Dina could be Demisexual and simply isnt at the correct stage of emotional bond, if it bothers Becky that much her girlfriend does not view her in a sexual light, she should not be in the relationship, especially how easily Dina was swayed here to try to do something to please Becky.
The longer I read this comic, the more I grow to absolutely dislike Becky.
I think it’s good that she’s talking about her feelings instead of bottling up her desires. It’d be one thing if she kept her desires to herself, she’s telling Dina about how she feels. They can work from there. She’s not trying to guilt trip her, she’s just speaking openly about how she feels now that she’s realizing Dina may feel differently.
Dina HAS expressed an interest in sex with Becky, though, at Dina’s birthday party. She just doesn’t experience the same kind of arousal or libido that Becky does. Dina’s not being swayed to do anything she doesn’t want to do, and acting a certain way to please a partner isn’t inherently bad. If I make my partner breakfast, it’s not because I think I’m obligated to please him, it’s because it will make him happy.
Stifyn Baker
The problem there though, as I read it, is that although Dinah has expressed an interest in sex with Becky, she’s also made it clear that she will go through with it if Becky wants to; but Becky seems to want Dinah to take the lead (probably due to her repressed upbringing, resulting in a resistance to the idea of actually being responsible for initiating sex) – something Dinah isn’t going to do. If Becky wants the situation she describes in that first panel, she’s going to have to arrange it herself.l
Gross, yes, but when you consider that Becky’s a repressed Christian lesbian who is trying to come to terms with how to progress her relationship with her asexual girlfriend, I can give her some leeway here. Voicing her feelings to Dina is fine, her language is just kind of Belinda Blinked tier of sex thoughts.
Speaking as a (mostly? I guess?) allo here… Black out? What fun is it if you don’t remember it. Six days later? Are you missing work for it? Did you mean to miss work for it? That’s into addiction territory. Was consent involved? I’d guess it was, but it didn’t get mentioned. PILE of their own lady juices? What’d the juices do, harden in layers into something like a termite hive? Yeah, taken literally it’s all pretty disgusting.
And I think that’s on purpose. I’m taking Becky here as emphasizing the loss of control as the big important point. For her love (and sex) are beyond rationality, a force that threatens to overwhelm her reasoning and willpower and (Becky’s version of) decorum. Something bigger than her, something she can get subsumed in. If I’m right, you could substitute the idea of “I want to get wrapped up cuddling and kissing you so thoroughly that we completely lose our sense of time and don’t realize it until a week later, and I feel inadequate, unattractive, and like you’re not invested in this relationship like I am when you don’t feel the same thing about me” and you’d have the same conflict, only expressed in a non-sexual way.
Which… well, I don’t want to say that feelings are WRONG, because feelings aren’t factual matters and I’m not sure they can be right or wrong. But it’s problematic on a few levels. And that’s kind of the point to, and why (in addition to religious baggage) Becky is fighting those urges, and expressing the need to fight them in terms that emphasize the juxtaposition between how over-the-top and kinda disgusting it is and how much she wants them anyway.
@Reltzik: well put. a sex-negative education is likely to make your sex drive pretty freaky. try to quell desire with talk of sin and punishment, and what you end up with is still desire, still just as strong, but now a bit monstrous.
Yeah, it’s really clear Becky’s looking for the complete loss of control as absolution for wanting to have sex. Also, that she maybe has some questionable ideas of what that entails. End result, kind of terrifying read objectively.
I doubt Becky really means to black out and wake up six days later. However, imagery with one orgasming so hard that one loses track of what is going on for a few moments is common hyperbole in romance novels. Becky is simply ‘turning it up to 11’ as she does with everything.
Reltzik
…. didn’t I say, in effect, that it was hyperbole, meant to emphasize just how strong the drive is?
… huh, I guess that wasn’t as clear as I meant it to be.
milu
i think we’ve seen other instances when Becky associated sexual desire with loss of control.

Welp, Idunno what Becky’s talking about, I’m certainly convinced.

I appreciate that Dina is looking at Becky’s face and not boobs as she says it

She only does dinosaur calls unfortunately.

Cut to: her phone screen and it turns out she didn’t google it or anything, she just texted Joe.

She didn’t even ask him what to say. She just typed “Becky’s boobs” and that’s how he responded.

As an ace person… Becky’s description in that first panel is disturbing and gross. I’m assuminng it’s probably gross to most Non-Becky people.

it’s a bit much, yes.
then again, “a bit much” is typical Becky.

I think it’s the word “pile.” Suggests another kind of pile.

This is probably just over-exaggeration as a result of her Sunday school sex mis-education. Or it could just be her style. One of those.

MrSmith
Juices, as a descriptive term for anything sexual, is right up there with moist, plump and succulent for words that make me shudder
Yotomoe
Damn, I like All those words. Especially plump. (ok succulent is a little weird)
MrSmith
I like them as well but when used is a sexual setting it gives me the heebie jeebies
Rose by Any Other Name
… why? Moist and plump are both female arousal reactions.
Succulent is an odd choice, although if one is comparing their lover to the water-storing capabilities of a cactus, I suppose it would work.
Yotomoe
Plump just sounds soft. I mean I’m sure there’s girls who’d hate to be called plump but it’s super sexy to me.
MrSmith
I don’t know but I suspect it has something to do with the connotations, like the idea of a dirty old man in a rain coat saying “moist panties”
Felt a little gross just typing that
Yet wet or thicc doesn’t cause those same reactions
Delicious Taffy
Why specifically a rain coat?
King Daniel
Trench coats are so last century

I’m also ace and have felt this way about Becky since at least As I said on that comic, living with this level of thirst seems like it would be downright debilitating.
Also I have read that apparently allos have a function in their brain that sort of turns off their sense of disgust when sexy times are involved? But many aces (including you and I) don’t have that off switch. So it makes sense that Becky describing this would be gross to us.
