          A creator I followed, “Wings and Strings”, had his whole blog marked as NSFW and rendered inaccessible, as well as other blogs with the word “string”, ’cause the censor bots read it in the context of G-strings.

          They all tried to get this fixed, but Tumblr’s support service isn’t worth SHIT!

          Her response was “oh, that happened to me too. Remember that toy blog I used to do with classic 80s My Little Ponies? It kept getting flagged as NSFW even thought it was just pictures of toys. Eventually, I just gave up and shut it down because I couldn’t be bothered anymore.”

          A friend of mine had her blog censored during the whole nsfw thing a while back despite all her work being *very* wholesome. We concluded it was because of rabbit in her username and the mention of bunnies

          Hashtags, tweet threads, and ‘moments’ are the relevant Twitter tools.

          None of which are regularly used, and since tweets aren’t editable, a forgotten hashtag can’t be added in except as a reply, which feels kinda silly. Also hashtags take up the already limited character limit, which while not necessarily an issue when it comes to art/comics, can be limiting if the creator wants to add some thoughts.

          Tumblr, ultimately, is far superior in its UI and inner workings when it comes to any sort of tagging system (I loved that I could search tags within an artist’s page), but the whole nsfw ban soured the system immensely.

          Right now my go to is Pixiv, but the language barrier probably gates a fair number of people from going to that route.

      To be fair tumblrs that site yahoo bought for like a billion dollars only for it to crash hard after they were forced to ban porn so it could be put on the apple store(which didn’t work) and ended up being sold years later for a pathetic 3 million. Walky wouldn’t stand a chance there. It’s basically lord of the flies in that place.

          Community did manage to get a sixth season out of Yahoo and wind up tanking their fledgling video service when it underperformed, so… yeah, I think Yahoo was just an easy mark.

          As a Community fan it worked out pretty well for me, though!

          Reddit outsources its governance to the mods of subreddits. That means a wider pool of moderators that are also conveniently human. I believe tumblr’s moderation was (and still is) mostly automated, and it’s all run by tumblr themselves.

          So when someone who’s underage posts nude selfies to tumblr, easy for the tumblr team to miss it. It gets reported to the itunes store and down goes the app. And unless the info I got back when it happened was wrong, the ban came not from porn in general but because it was an underage instance of it. Reddit’s infrastructure wouldn’t allow for that, between community moderators deleting the posts then banning the users and the fact that any subreddit that allows that content being able to be safely closed and excised without affecting the site at large.

        I meant to mention CamScanner, “scan” a thick border around it then crop off the watermark along the edge (or leave it if lazy), seems like a probable move for one of them, although Wally may have to figure out how to take a screenshot from a phone (in his case, prob just take a phone photo and call it a day)

Or just draw porn. I follow a ton of artist only to discover they have a way more popular nsfw account. But I don’t think Walky’s good enough for that yet.

        Booster, realistically, could be anywhere from 18-22 without even remotely raising eyebrows, and could easily be up to 23 or 24. (Though I sincerely doubt they’re an upperclassman, or they’d at least consider living off-campus with a friend/twin sister rather than risking another random roommate.)

        However, I still wouldn’t expect a 24-year-old’s metabolism to really get picky yet, or at least not be firmly shifted.

          I didn’t know Booster is Hispanic this whole time. I guess this is known outside the webcomic? How do you know he isn’t Filipino? Race controversies isn’t something new for this comic. Such as Jennifer’s retconned asian ethnicity

    Okay, sorry, but can I point out that twittter is the worst place to host a webcomic? The navigation is crap if you are binge reading it and only seek to read the comic. You might have some chance if the author tag specifically each of his comic page but seeing it has to be done manually, they are deemed to forget to tag one of them and you are doomed to seek through tons of tweet to have an hope to find the missing one to make sense of the next page.

    And let’s not forget of the image clicking on twitter, that don’t allow “fit width only” or “fit to length only” that tend to make the reading of a comic page much more comfortable.

    I don’t know how the trend of posting comics on twitter became popular, but it was a really bad idea and should have never caught on. there are dedicated websites to host webcomics, for christ sake! Just post a daily link to you new page on twitter, instead.

    That was a very opinionated post about how putting your webcomic on twitter is awful and should have never happened! Thank you for coming to my TED talk!

      * Actually…does IU have classes in the same buildings as the residences? I know some schools do that, some don’t. If they do, they might not need to go outside, at all, if they only have classes in the same building.

    Adding a new food to ones diet, especially if they dont eat it it often regardless of if its healthier for does tend to do that to be fair.

    Though as weird as that seems humans have some of the best digestion of any animal, considering the fact we can eat things that would be literally poisonous to 90%.of all other species on this planet.

    Chocolate and coffee? Pure poison to everything else. The cocoa beans literally evolved to be poisonous so animals wouldnt eat it

    So we decided to eat it.

      It’s because we evolved as a scavenger. We literally live off spoiled food. There are even several different kinds of spoiled milk we can live on that other animals can’t digest because they are made from milk and most animals can’t digest lactose past babyhood.

      I did a blog post about how we are literally terrifying animals because we can eat almost anything, our preferred mode of hunting is to chase our prey until it dies from fear and exhaustion, our females can literally get pregnant at any time of year compared to most animals that only ovulate once a year, and we can think our way out of most problems we don’t think our way into. Also chili peppers evolved so that mammals wouldn’t eat them but birds would so the seeds would be more widely distributed, but we like the pain so we are pretty much the only mammillian species that consume them.

        Yeah humans have a lot finer control over our motor functions than alot of animals who act in a very “all or nothing” sort of way. So generay when hunting a deer for example it would sprint full speed away while we would keep a brisk pace. Not as fast but we wouldnt exhaust ourselves chasing after it.

Our endurance over long distances and time periods absolutely dwarfs most animals, we literally must have seemed like slasher movie monsters. Every time you look back, think you lost them…nope.           @Opus: are you talking about lactase persistance? that evolved very recently in some human populations due to cattle domestication, not because of a scavenging diet.

          Mr. Morningstar: where does your claim that humans have unusually high control over motor functions come from? i’m genuinely curious (if sceptical)

          and both of you claim that humans can eat almost anything compared to other animals, where does that come from? and is it a human thing, or a primate thing? unless you mean because humans invented cooking— which, fair enough. cooking was an evolutionary gamechanger.

          The thing about motor functions might be true but for how well we can operate things with our hands when compared to our cousins like chimpanzees who are much stronger but lack the fine control.

          Humans can go pretty much anywhere in between but it means using your full strength you’re capable of is very difficult

          OK, i did some digging! here’s probably your main source:

          “The Strength of Great Apes and the Speed of Humans” by Alan Walker (2009) (this LiveScience article sums it up)

          It should be noted that this paper doesn’t produce any data, it only outlines a hypothesis which i don’t think has been tested as yet.

          So after summarizing various strands of data (anatomy, fossil evidence, and studies of chimp vs human strength) Walker proposes that chimpanzees have a higher threshold for muscle activation— so what you said basically, maybe not quite an “all or nothing” situation, but certainly less capacity for subtle movements. Whereas the Homo line traded in some of their maximal muscle strength in exchange for greater precision, by increasing nerve density.

          Now some of his claims have been disputed, like how much stronger than humans chimps are, Walker says FOUR times, this 2017 study (PNAS, O’Neill et al) says more like 1.5 times; also the same study notes that there’s no support for Walker’s claim that a change in neural density in the muscles would lower the capacity for maximal effort. Their explanation for higher strength in chimps, but also for higher endurance in humans, has to do with the type of muscle fiber itself, not the granularity of neuromuscular control.

          Now I’ve quite possibly missed some other primary sources. but from what i could glean in 1.5h of research, this is the best that can be concluded: humans may possess finer motor control than chimps (our closest cousins). at a glance, i couldn’t find any source for the claim that human motor control is finer than other animals besides chimps.

    I have to assume Walky is constantly operating with minor constapation and has no idea what a regular bowel movement feels like. His diet consists almost entirely of junk foodand fast food, usually meat based like nuggets, tacos, and pizza with assorted toppings (probably the only time he gets any vegetables depending on the toppings). That’s a LOT of cheese and meat! Add snacking and typical college stuff like ramen and we can’t forget Dina’s choice in the cereal bar. That salad probably made him think he had diarrhea by not fighting him on the way out.

    Kudos to Willis for pushing the limits of his artistic skills and sanity by continuing to have his characters appear in difficult to render clothes, with Booster’s paint splotch hoodie being a welcome addition to the canon, alongside all of Becky and Joyce’s plaid looks.

    Just gonna say booster’s being the best character in the strip for a moment here and Walky’s aggressively relatable levels of ADHD struggles is making me sad. Esp with some of the comments. I kind of resent the idea that wanting to put less work into something = not caring.
    I take shortcuts with my art all the time bc i know if i don’t my brain won’t let me continue it. Plus seeing characters with obvious ADHD being called lazy is uh…kind of a sore spot? Maybe it’s the rejection sensitivity acting up but people’s reactions to him feel kinda… Insensitive? I’m feeling like I’m caught in the backsplash a little but that’s just on me ig. It doesn’t look like any of the others with ADHD are bothered so I’m probably just taking some comments about a cartoon character too seriously.

    I’m also saying this while having only written 2 sentences in a 2500 word essay due at 4:30 today ? so ha haha..

      I confess I have little knowledge of ADHD and have probably been insensitive in the past. From my perspective it looked like Walky simply lacked discipline. I will be more mindful in the future.

        Thanks :). Most people don’t know that much about ADHD, hell DOCTORS don’t know it as well as you’d think. E.g. one specific medication didn’t work that well one so they just kept upping my dosage for years until they reached the max I could take and when i still wasn’t reacting well, instead of trying something else they basically said “huh i guess you don’t have ADHD ¯\_(ツ)_/¯”

      yeah idk if i have ADHD or just some sort of spoilt child syndrome or whatever, but i also relate to Walky, hard

      maybe i’ve just convinced myself that i actually am an extremely lazy person, so while i might take folks calling Walky lazy personally, i’m like, “yes, yes, i know that about myself already. you can’t judge me any harder than i judge myself. U_U”

      I mean to be fair, Walky himself insists on pretending he’s lazy, so… it’s understandable that people take him at face value maybe?

    There is an intersection in my town called the McNugget intersection. The cross streets are Glacier Highway and Egan Drive, but the intersection is McNugget. Official police reports will say things like “there was a collision involving two vehicles at McNugget.” and even if you’re new to town and have never heard this term before, if someone says “make the turn at McNugget,” you’ll pause for a moment to process the phrase, but then you’ll figure out where they mean without any explanation needed.

    Anyway, the phrase “mainline McNugget” took me a second.

    Remember Atkin’s diet? The fad diet where you could eat all the steak and eggs but no carbs? This is something that actually happens to people going off Atkin’s diet. But chicken nuggets have carbs so it can’t be exactly it.

    (I mean, *I* have zero Patrons so far, but my stuff has nothing to do with comics, so…)
