        Sarah tried to present herself as someone happier and bubblier (basically what drove Jacob off in the first place), but she couldn’t stand how fake it felt.

          Everyone’s got their limits. Sarah’s harder on herself than she should be. Note that while she was quick to bash on Joyce in order to have a nice conversation with Jacob as well as vent some of her frustrations, her conscience eventually got the better of her and she owned up to it.
          Plus, Raidah isn’t completely insufferable. She didn’t call for assault or anything after Sarah attacked her before, and as far as the comic shows, she’s pretty much left Sarah alone since then.
          I think it’s just the pressure of Sarah knowing that what she’s doing falls just on the evil side of the line here while also strongly disliking the front she’s putting up. It’s too much and now she’s disgusted with herself for even trying to pull it off.

      I think that Sarah has decided that, no matter how much Raidah pisses her off just by existing, she isn’t going to let her life be defined and consumed by that anger and dislike. She isn’t going to turn into the sort of person who’s life goal is trying to ruin her rival’s life and, in the process, become a far worse person in herself. She’s realised that she’s a better person than that.

          I would define it as “that person who is hated by everyone and doesn’t care”. The reason why she’s so misanthropic is because she tells herself that she doesn’t care what everyone thinks of her so she doesn’t have to be nice; this becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy with her resulting abrasive nature driving people away creating a weird kind of confirmation in her own mind that she doesn’t have to try.

          Maybe she’s decided that this has to change?

      Consider this: Sarah would not change who she was and how she acted when Jacob was actively trying to get close to her, even though she admitted to being wildly attracted to him.

      Now she was changing who she was to get Jacob away from her enemy. It may have seemed like a good idea when she thought of it, but sitting there with the reality of how much of her self-respect she was risking she decided that the petty revenge was not worth it. Good for her.

      My preferred way to put a coat on awesomely is to hold it up in front of me with both hands, facing away from me (so I’m looking at its back), and then suddenly flipping it up and back over my head and sliding my arms into the sleeves at the same time, so that by the time it swings around and lands on my back I’m wearing it properly. It probably looks dumb as heck, but it’s fun as all get-out to do. (Presuming you’re outside or in a space with a high ceiling, anyway.)

          No, that’s putting a jacket on normally, which I do myself when not feeling flamboyant or when the ceiling is low (or, well, normal). My more creative approach flips it straight up so that at the top of the arc the coat is vertically upside-down over my head, pointing straight up, and so both my arms go into the sleeves at exactly the same time as it swings back down. (It’s also substantially faster than putting it on the normal way, give or take the time to straighten the collar, since I’m whipping it back fast enough that it stays fully extended.)

        I do the around the shoulder swirl, while inserting my arms as it swirls. Don’t know what it looks like, but it is quick and easy to put on, assuming I don’t whack anybody else around me as I do it.

    I’m really starting to dislike Sarah I like that she’s smart and the voice of reason I just grow tired of her being bitter and anti-social l. Suppose that’s just who she is. I hope she starts softening m ok really soon because so far she is a bit grating for me. I’m loving Becky/Dina and Billy/Ruth I also really want to get the Sal/Amber confrontation too.

      Why wouldn’t she be bitter and anti-social? The friends she made her first year have spent the last year bullying and insulting her for saving the life of her roommate. Her goods deeds are largely punished, and she remains socially ostrisized. Of course she’s bitter and anti-social.

        I disagree. They were bad friends if they think Sarah did the wrong thing when that girl was going to end up dying from an OD and literally saved her they are bad friends. There is no reason she could not find supportive and mature friends and yeah being a bitter unlikable bongo doesn’t make you mature and it means people avoid you and dont want to be around you including hit dudes your attracted to. She seems unable to be happy and by now I think it’s purposeful. I think the thing with Dina is positive and if she stops pushing Joyce who I’d genuinely loving sweet and positive away then maybe I’ll start to like her more.

          Sarah was never social to start with, and the first time (that we’ve seen) when she tried to open herself up to a group of friends it ended up self-destructing with nuclear force. She has literally no reason to believe that any other group of friends could be supportive and mature; in her experience the appearance of such just results in backstabbing later. (For example, Jacob. He’s now dating her nemesis – that attempt to open up *really* went well.)

          All that said she’s still willing to associate with other people who she feels she should be supporting, like Joyce and Dina. But expecting her to jump headfirst into friend-making would be like expecting her to leap into an actual minefield.

          Raidah and co. were positive, supportive friends until Sarah did something they considered wrong. Now Sarah has it in her head that actually opening up to people is going to explode. Joyce is the only person who unequivocally loves her, and even she threw Dana in her face.

        FWIW, I suspect that this strip represents the point from which she is at least going to try to move beyond that hurt. We’ll see if she can do it and who she chooses to hang out with if she wants to reboot her social life.

        I strongly suspect that it won’t be Joyce or anyone in her circle. Something tells me that Sarah doesn’t have the sucrose tolerance to handle that.

          I’m not so sure about that. She’s willingly hung out with Joyce’s circle of friends and enjoyed it before. And she’s said outright she likes Dorothy and Dina. She doesn’t even seem to mind Joe as long as he’s not hitting on her.

        Yeah her bitterness is frustrating for people to deal with, but I imagine the person hurt the most by it is Sarah herself. Going through life thinking everyone is that close to just completely despising you? It’s heavy for anyone to deal with.

          Yeah it is just too mucheap for me. Like j said I think she’s moving in the right direction and true she super young and as you said her attempts to move past that and make friends and open up have backfired even with Joyce but I just find this kind of person so so so so unlikable I just want to smack them with a newspaper the reason you’re lonely and bitter is your fault.
          I like where she is going I like that she’s smart and actually thinks things out and is driven. I like that but I guess it is asking a lot to move past this that fast but still can she keep progressing to not being an ass or at least become more entertaining to make up for it. I liked that she actually tried to smile and be happy for a moment even if for a crappy reason.

          With Sarah it’s not that she tries to go out of her way to be miserable, it’s that her pessimistic, introvert nature is going into overdrive because of all her bad experiences in the past. She genuinely cannot conceptualize that anyone can actually like her for who she is, except possibly Joyce.

        My guess is that, it will be reveled that Jacob is secretly a member of a hidden ninja tribe. Dana is also part of this tribe and the whole thing has been a hidden set up. The main characters will have to battle an army of ninjas while Sarah and Radiah team up against Jacob and Dana. During the fight Dana will perform a heel face turn (after Sarah reminds her of being dorm mates) which leads her to pulling a heel-face turn and dragging Jacob with her of the Indiana dorm buildings roof. Also while Dana is hanging of the roof, Sarah will try to save her
        and reach out her hand. Dana will shake her head and let go leaving Sarah to go NOOOOOOOOOO!

    Honestly, Jacob seems more aware of her, now, than before. Way to get his interest by acting crazy!

    Love the Jacob side-eye. You can see that this seeming Stepford Sarah is weirding him out. Like some pod person has replaced Sarah. I bet he’s not into pod people. Maybe if she tried the Cool Girl, she could pull it off, but not the Joyce look.

    Cue Jacob following her out to make sure she’s ok (because he’s a stand-up kinda guy). Sarah spills the beans about wanting to get him to dump Raidah, which leads to an explanation of why and Jacob hears her version of the story. Over the next date or two with Raidah, he notices little things about her that seem to indicate that Sarah’s story is true, and eventually stops seeing Raidah. Then begins the slow process of actually getting to know Sarah.
