      Alternatively, I wonder if Dina realizes that it take at least a few days for an egg to be fertilized, and that orgasms have nothing to do with that process (the actual fertilization, not the likelihood of successfully reaching that point).

The actual mechanics of procreation don’t really come into the body’s ability to derive pleasure from rubbing your genitals or licking your soulmate’s eyeball or whatever you do to get off, the body is very easy to trick that way.

        ….or possibly more than once? I had that same thought. Dina seems to have an uncomfortable amount of inside information on their sex life.

        Unless, of course, Dina likes to watch, and Amber and Danny enjoy having an audience. That wouldn’t be my cup of tea, personally, but then I’ve always been pretty vanilla about sex in practice.

        Of course, that would seem to contradict what Amber said about enjoying not having to think of Amber as a sexual being, but that’s beside the point.

          I doubt they forgot, necessarily. Keep in mind that Dina is extremely quiet, relatively small, and enjoys hiding behind doors. It’s entirely possible that Danny/AG burst into the room making out, glanced around, and went to the fun without noticing Dina in the corner. Or that Dina opened the door while Danny/AG were distracted, walked into her room, and fell asleep in her bed without Danny/AG noticing her at all.

      The evolutionary advantage of sex is reproduction. This reproduction involves an egg being fertilized. People who enjoy sex are very common only because people who enjoy sex produce more offspring. Dina is indicating that sex is an act of making your bodies think that you’re reproducing successfully, when you might be preventing that from happening altogether. This is a pretty clever way of looking at it.

        But I’m really not convinced that Latin grammar is correct in English sentences.

        According to Wiktionary the plural in the nominative, accusative and vocative cases is “reges” in Latin (the use in taxonomy being in that language). That said I’m uncertain whether you’d pluralize like that seeing how it’s the proper name of the species and such pluralizing would theoretically indicate two such taxonomic groups rather than two members of that group. “T. Rexes” is proably the common usage in English anyway. Anyway here’s the link to the Wictionary page I took that from.

          Umm. Saurus is a Greek word in Latin form — the direct transliteration is “sauros”. Dual should be -sauro and plural -sauroi. But by the time you’ve got to “Tyrannosauro reges” (or “Tyrannosauroi reges” if it’s a threesome or orgy) you probably have three grammars in a single sentence, and something bad is going to happen.

          Agemegos, I agree, something very bad could happen. That’s at least two grammars in one noun alone. And what’s this about orgies?         Right. He didn’t understand until he talked to Dorothy, so now he’s trying to verify with someone in the know that he can have a valid attraction to both men and women.

        Side note, I like how we can have a character where their coming out isn’t dramatic and terrible as it has been for Becky and Ethan. It’s important to bring to light the awful reality that LGBT kids face from their parents and peers, but I also appreciate Danny’s casual clumsy fumbling.

      They are at the educational home of Alfred Kinsey (as previously established) so it shouldn’t be all that hard. It’s just going to take a while, because taught biases have uncanny staying power that takes time as well as logic to erode (and from what I can tell, Willis can attest to that).

      Dina’s comment may not be the most socially appropriate one for this situation (or any situation) but I suspect that has not occurred to her in this moment. She’s trying to help, and sometimes the right way to go about doing so isn’t easy to figure out, especially for those of us who struggle to develop social skills.
      After years of social withdrawal, brought on in part by being me, and exacerbated by repeated instances of bullying and being disparaged, I entered my freshman year of college determined to have a fresh start, and to become a normal, social individual. This plan backfired in all kinds of ways I won’t get into here, primarily due to the social skills I had utterly failed to develop.
      On one occasion, I was working food service in the dining hall at breakfast. When a couple of my housemates came up to get breakfast, I remarked to them that one of the hot cereals looked like vomit. The two of them just exchanged bewildered looks, and I had no clue where I went wrong.
      I was (and to an extent, still am) prone to cover up gaps in social functioning with humor. In those days, it often didn’t occur to me that there was a time and place for my sparkling observational wit. That situation in the dining hall was not the time, the place, and my observation really wasn’t funny. However, at that time, I had no clue I was being inappropriate. I could come up with other examples, but I won’t.
      Maybe what Dina said wasn’t the “right” thing to say in that situation, but I can very much identify with her, especially thinking back to what I was like at that same age.

    Nothing says that anyone attending this has to be gay, exclusively, Ethan. Danny’s just a little bi-curious, Walky’s technically gay-for-pay (if the pay is pizza, and the only gay thing you have to do is say so, temporarily), one of the organizers is straight, Dina’s a bit more on the asexual side… it takes Diff’rent Strokes to move the world.
