Regret

I will be at Phoenix Comicon this weekend!  I'll be tabling with Rob DenBleyker of Cyanide and Happiness in Artist Alley at table 649.   I've never been to Phoenix, so I'm excited for it.  I hope to see you there! If Levar Burton walks by, I'll make sure to do my best wide-eyed shellshocked stare.  I bet he doesn't get that all the time from fans at all!

      My husband doesn’t dance either. According to him, he never has. I’ve gotten him to sway with me, at home when there is no one around to witness, but in the 15 years I’ve known him, that’s as close as it gets.

      I’m a dancing machine! Granted, a faulty machine who’s operation may result in the loss of life and limb, but functional none the less!

    Okay, I get that she likes dancing to her own music. I get that the idea of ckubs appal her so her own room is preferable to her. I even get that she locks the door, partly out of embarrassment at her dancing and partly because she’s had it drilled into her that dancing will make any passing men lustful enough to burst in and ravish her. What I don’t get is the adult supervision. What would Joyce have done in her room alone that requires an adult to supervise her afterwards? And does it involve the Twilight ‘novels’?

      Joyce seems like the type to get caught up in the music and unconsciously transition from ‘approved’ dance moves like slowly turning in circles and swaying from side to side to ‘racy’ moves like pelvic thrusting (gasp!) and miming grinding (oh lordy I’m feeling faint!) and heaven forbid, head banging (back back foul demons back!)!

      I was once at a church-sponsored dance where they shut off “Istanbul/Constantinople” and gave us all a talking-to there and then because of the crazed satanic moves we had been driven to. The music selection thereafter was more carefully monitored.

    I’ve got to wonder if she’s playing Joe just a little bit ’cause given my upbringing (conservative homeschool Bible Church kind of people) I’d normally expect her to end that thought with either “Yeah, there’s a line dancing/English country dancing/clogging group that meets Fridays at the old Methodist Church” or “Sweet! Lemme grab my poodle skirt. There’s a swing dance group that meets in Old Fart’s Hall.”

    One of my online friends insisted that I get a picture of you when I’m at the con. He then introduced me to your comic when explaining just who is this person he wants me to take a picture of it. 😛 I now love your comic and am eager to wander by your table at the con! If I can find it that is… It sounds like there will be so many tables!
