Being the grandson of an alleged organized crime figure does have its privileges

When I went to college, freshman could get a single room, as long as they were willing to cough up the extra money. I think like $900 a term rather than $600, but it’s been a long time.
I ended up having a double room for $600 for about half of my first year, but that was because of [events].
Im hoping it’s Sayid. Dude needs more airtime. I’d also accept “Arnold” since i think we’ve only seen him once, but that would also but Asher in Beck and I’m unsure if it’s been established which dorm he’s in.
maybe he’s got enough of a ‘rich kid allowance’ to rent a place nearby (tho other than specific cases i imagine it’s more convenient to stay in the dorm, unless he wants to treat ethan to a nice hotel room)
Actually, there are a handful of apartments that are actually more conveniently located than most of the dorms, depending on where most of your classes are located. Honestly Read and Forrest are kinda the least conveniently located dorms on campus, over on the south-east corner, pretty much only the theater and music programs regularly hold classes anywhere near there.
Meanwhile the stadium acts as a sort of bus station for the campus bus lines, so any of the apartment complexes near Dunn street, especially north of 17th, are arguably more convenient than Read/Forrest and at least a couple of them are possibly comparably priced, especially with roommates to split the cost. Less than a minute walk to the stop where all the bus lines intersect and there’s (supposed to be) a bus leaving every ten minutes, which means you can get to pretty much anywhere on campus fairly easily and quickly and don’t need to deal with as much weather or walking, and importantly you can pretty easily get back home from just about anywhere on the campus with no need for connecting lines. Plus there are a few city bus lines with stops conveniently located around there, too.
Hmm, define “live in”. How much time do you have to spend there?
If you’re rich enough you could have a dorm room and an apartment.
Of course, if you’re that rich why aren’t you in an elite school, but we’re already ignoring that for Carla at least.
Michael Steamweed
Do we even know why Carla is at this university, instead of some private school? She could have gone to an Ivy League place?
Sirksome
Honestly I would imagine at her income level the school you go to is arbitrary as long as they have the general access you’d need to resources for learning. Does an engineering degree really mean more if you got it from a state school over Harvard when you’re already a billionaire? With that reasoning attending IU might be convenience or it means something personal to Carla like maybe it’s the university where her parents met or the creator of Ultra Car attended.
Mark
Well, now you have me wondering why Carla is not at Purdue.
Purdue University Indianapolis has a degree in motorsports engineering, about making cars from the ground up. Well that and a whole lot more. That might be more attractive for Carla, but at the beginning of the comic that campus was years in the future.
thejeff
At her level, I’d assume the point is more networking than the degree itself, which is why you find the truly rich at elite schools, not the local state college.
But she could certainly have personal reasons.
Yumi
If your family’s money is in crime, various real estate opportunities could be used for money laundering.
At my (large/state/comparable to IU) school, there were some students who had dorms and off-campus apartments, mainly international students. One benefit of that was that family members could stay there when visiting.
GholaHalleck
Vending machines, laundromats, restaurants, and apartments with a constantly changing population. College towns are *goldmines* for money laundering.
for reals tho Ethan’s had to put up with an almost unbelievable amount of shit over his whole life and 6 months,
he deserves a frickin PILE of bones. the sweet yummy edible kind, with creamy goodness in the middle.
a giant fuckin castle made of those bones. he deserves all the bones in the state, on account of having to suffer so much from what are ultimately other peoples’ boners
And if Joyce is getting action, then Sal is going to do so as well just to maintain her dignity.
Michael Steamweed
She already did that once. Does Sal need to keep ahead of Joyce? Or is the field open now for both of them to accrue sexy experience points at their own pace? (or for that matter, are they all a single adventurer party and leveling up at the same rate?)
Dina may have a hard time getting laid without Becky; maybe once she reunites with Becky they’ll do the horizontal tango. Becky might not be in the mood though considering she is worried she is going to lose Dina to Charlie, or anyone for that matter.
hopefully that ain’t strong enough to come between them
Kyrik Michalowski
It feels like Becky is one step short of a meltdown, and she is trying to be ok, and enjoy things. However if she is bottling up a bunch of emotions, and the thoughts that go with them, then she is going to really need Dina, and Joyce to help.
GholaHalleck
Dina is one of a *very* few remaining threads in Becky’s personal life, and basically the only one that doesn’t really have a tie into her dead parents.
Losing Dina would basically leave her without anyone close to her, as much as Joyce is one of her oldest friends, Joyce is not that close with her anymore.
Ethan shoved him back into the closet just before Jacob arrived. Poor guy gonna be stuck in there the whole hour having to listen to Jacucy. (“Lucob”?)

Huh. I wonder who Asher’s roommate is now.
Assuming it’s not a new character, and ruling out the ones that we know already live at Read, that could be… Tony? Beef?
Thag Simmons
My money’s on Norville
Wereg
My money is on him somehow having his own room.

Technically unless their parents live within 50 miles of campus all freshman are required to live in the dorms.

Good for them honestly.
crys
Love this for them!!!!
Amós Batista
Happy for Lucy being able to pass over all her religion thing to have a full relationship.
And happy for Jacob, because he’s Jacob.
NGPZ
LOL
here i was expectin Jacob to pull a dick move outta pocket almost immediately,
but not LITERALLY in the form of a sexile XD
10/10 no notes
Jeremiah
I mean it was Ethan who offered to leave.
NGPZ
hence why it’s not a figurative dick move but a literal one
a/snow/mous/e
Yeah, I guess Jacob didn’t really stiff him, but he could definitely stand to do less PDA. I mean, throw Ethan a bone here!
NGPZ
what is this, Ancient Rome? /j

i don’t think lucy feels esp hostile towards jen right now but i can imagine them going outta their way to kick her outta again outta pettiness

three days later…

For us, it will be January.
Mr. Random
Is EVERYONE getting laid today?
Nono
Probably not Carla.
staszu13
Well Carla doesn’t really do sex if I am not mistaken

Carla’s GF is MIA.

Not Naomi.

Not Joyce… yet. 😉

Becky is way more alone then she’s letting on.

Not me, for a while
Nono
I mean let’s be fair Ethan was slutting it up quite a bit last semester too. He just mostly did it in other people’s rooms.
Thag Simmons
I think he was mostly just talking about Transformers lore
Doctor_Who
The brazen hussy.
You do NOT discuss Hot Shot until after marriage! Is nothing sacred?
Michael Steamweed
In some states, they allow that discussion during middle school Health class. :O
GholaHalleck
He’s called Mike’s dick Rodimus Prime at least once, and no one can convince me otherwise.
Liara
Yeah, like a good roommate does!
Shadowsnail
A good roommate makes other people’s roommates into bad roommates.
Liara
Exactly
Needfuldoer
He couldn’t hear Roadblock all the way over there.
Miri
Last time he did that was in Amber’s bed, with Asher, the party Jacob and Lucy hooked up at… Last night?
Kyrik Michalowski
Ethan leaving the room has me concerned he’s going to run into Asher, and Jennifer, and things are going to go downhill quickly.
Jeremiah
I so hope that happens.
Thag Simmons
only a matter of time, I suppose
Mr. Random
Since we never saw him leave, I’ve just been imagining that Asher has been awkwardly standing in the corner this whole time.
Nymph
Yeah, I was going to say it’d be hard to run into Asher with him still standing uncomfortably in the corner of Jacob and Ethan’s room.
Michael Steamweed
Ethan shoved him back into the closet just before Jacob arrived. Poor guy gonna be stuck in there the whole hour having to listen to Jacucy. (“Lucob”?)
Shade
I like Jaucy.
Michael Steamweed
Saucy Jaucy
Opus the Poet
+1
Sofia
Lucob, definitely Lucob. Jacussy sounds like… something else entirely
Shade
I think at this point it’s more likely the other way with Jennifer running into Ethan and Asher.
GholaHalleck
considering Asher has made it clear he’s not with Jennifer anymore, I think this is a nonissue.
Slartibeast Button, BIA
Is that giant snow hill still there?
Liara
Ethan’s day is just going absolutely swimmingly
Deanatay
Peak Emothan.
Doopyboop
Hour sounds about right, that’s how long I’d have to wait for my roommate and her boyfriend to finish their ‘private time’.
Suet
Yeah… Jacob won’t be straddling a sock today.
An hour? Nah, 90.
