      Given that whoever took the video knows who Roz is and not Joe, it seems like a safe bet that this wasn’t in Joe’s dorm room. Also, while Roz may or may not put a whole lot of emotional ties to her sexual activities, it’s really unlikely she’d call any lover of hers “some douchebag.” Unless this is someone re-uploading the video and I’m missing/forgetting some context for when this actually happened, the most likely person to have made this video is Mary.

          Anecdotally, I doubt it’s that high. If nothing else there’s plenty that’s just sex, without even that much of a storyline. It is a disturbing amount and I’d agree that that more insidious sort is worse in some ways. At least in the being used as an example sense.

          Uhh, I usually don’t go to YouPorn, but looking at the front page, of the 28 videos it’s trying to get me to watch, ONE of them is the student/teacher thing, which I will agree is gross, and then two are incest, which I find also gross, but the other 25 all look enthusiastically consensual.

          I’m not trying to say that you didn’t see what you said you saw, and I’m not even trying to say that porn is a healthy and fair industry to women, but, maybe one look at the front page isn’t a good way to find out what percentage of porn is rape porn?

          I actually recall a grad-student I worked under at a university writing center conducting a similar subject. I just remember both of us being at work, and when no clients were around, she would be diligently typing away, meticulously tagging and categorizing porn videos into a huge spreadsheet database.

          I think those stats are way off.
          They’re PROBABLY pretty close to stuff that’s easy to find though, without looking for stuff that’s specifically queer friendly, feminist, alternative, kink (without the dom/sub aspect) etc. So I can definitely see why you would come to that conclusion.

          Stuff like crash-pad series or slipshine cost money. To find it, you have to know what to look for and have a credit card ready. Youporn and other sites of its ilk are comparably easy to find and free, so they are the most likely sites someone who’s unsure about the whole thing will first peak at.
          And it’s a really bad place to start, if the aim is to feel good about being sexual. At least if you are a woman.
          I can’t check what’s to see on the first page auf yp right now, as I’m in a public hotel LAN, but only one out of 28 videos being rape sounds totally unlikely to me.

          You’re making an argument based on trying to feel good about being sexual? There’s the entire problem with your argument, you don’t need to bring up specific genres, most live porn isn’t meant for something feelgood like that. You’d be looking for something more passionate and less rough or roleplayish and it’s not as popular a genre, so it wouldn’t be recommended on the front pages. Some sites, or at least Pornhub, have a “for women” genre that you can find those kinds of things more. At the end of the day though, if you’re looking at porn of all things to try and make yourself feel better about sex, you’re looking in the wrong place.

          Also, those sites tend to look at your IP to see the country you’re in and recommend based on what’s popular in that country until you watch stuff yourself to make different recommendations. I might be wrong but “auf” is making me think you’re in Germany? That just tells me a lot of Germans like rape porn.

        Omae wa mou shikima! (お前はもう色魔!) seems more appropriate, if that last part (色魔) actually has the meaning I’ve been lead to believe (“horny” as in sexually aroused). Meanwhile Omae wa mou poruno! (お前はもうポルノ!) feels particularly badly forced as a use of either language and as a use of the meme even if it has a certain accuracy in terms of fanworks. I don’t recall Willis ever doing anything quite like that with either universe’s version of Joyce, but I have seen some fanart before that absolutely has.

          Ehhhh. Shikima gives me “sex maniac”, and mou is an adverb (so you wouldn’t apply it to a noun). You can probably verb the noun with suru, but I think it would be clearer with ero (in katakana, loanword from erotic).

          mou ero shita, if you were going for “she’s already X”; ero shi-sugita if you were going for “she’s too X”, and ero shichatta (shite-shimatta) if you just wanna say “she’s (unfortunately/completely) X”.

          Thank you. Between the various resources I checked there were a handful of meanings for “shikima” and that was indeed one of them as were “devil” and “horny”. I’m only even aware of the term due to being told it has the meaning I mentioned above well over a decade ago by someone I trusted to be knowledgeable and had to work back from the romanji. My Japanese language skills are a travesty, I know.

Joyce has specifically mentioned how difficult it is to be around people who can indulge in the temptations she’s afraid of without feeling bad in her conversations in relation to discovering carnal aspects of Dorothy and Walky’s relationship; and she’s also notably freaked out when she discovers other things -like atheism – that she grows comfortable with later but at first struggles with because she’d never been exposed to them (for sex in particular and her own sexuality it’s probably gonna be much more difficult, however; Joyce rn is trying to hold on to her religion as a conscious choice; actively fighting change for fear of losing herself, which seems to be harder for her than changing in the name of love for others)

          IANAL but I think legally it would be simple battery. Battery is physically acting on another in a criminal manner. Assault is basically creating a reasonable threat of battery.

          Canadian criminal law is weird and lumps battery in with assault (so in Canada there’s a crime called “assault causing bodily harm” which most other places would be equivalent to aggravated battery, although our civil law does distinguish between the tort of battery and the tort of assault), but most other jurisdictions separate battery from assault.

          It wouldn’t be sexual battery because sexual battery involves touching someone’s intimate parts either with yourself or with an object. Dan’s foot was involved. Sleazy as hell, and totally not ok but probably not sexual battery.

          That said though I’m not a lawyer so what do I know?

Baby steps are baby steps, and low grade exposure can help figure out where the issues are coming from.     To be ashamed of your own body and its capacity for pleasure? To feel that guilty at even WANTING to feel good? To feel that ashamed and frightened at even glimpsing a porn? It’s just… horrible. Sexuality is a natural part of human existence, not something to be ashamed and scared of — especially not at her age. She’s all grown up, and doesn’t know how to handle feelings of lust.       That’s exactly what I was going to say. The current chapter was supposed to be about Mike(with regular interruptions, of course), and end of book makes me think it’s also end of chapter. But the flashbacks just left us hanging in a weird spot, and they weren’t tied into the present stuff at all. Are the flashbacks just going to continue into future chapters, or are they going to stop there and leave us wondering about the relevance for some time to come?

        I doubt we’ll see much Mike-centric flashbacks in the future, but I’m happy with how willis executed it. There’s enough to support a whole bunch of theories about why mike is the way he is, but is extremely ambiguous, which always makes for an interesting comment section.

    Since we’re talking about no last Mike flashback, yeah like I said I needed unambiguous remorse from him to ascribe any benevolence to him whatsoever, so yeah. Mike’s a douchebag. (And that remorse needed to be directly refuting what he said to Blaine in that last strip.) May have knowingly arranged a situation where someone he claims to be friends with was trapped in a car with her abuser for hours. (Did he know it would end THAT badly? No, but he knew nothing good could come of it.) So yeah, the only Mike redemption arc I’ll buy is one where he loses all his friends and has a moment where he realized he fucked up so hard it temporarily becomes a musical to fully express how much he ruined things.

    Been there. Hell, been an atheist for nearly a decade now, and I still struggle with the heavy handed prudishness I grew up with. On the bright side, a homemade sex tape is a lot healthier to watch, than professional porn. While I agree that Joe wouldn’t act on any requests from Joyce, Roz might. Not saying it would turn out well, just that she wouldn’t try to keep Joyce the way she is. Becky or Leslie are the most likely to actually help though.         First of all, what’s wrong with wearing a watch to bed? I always do… otherwise I’d probably forget to put it on on a regular basis.

        Secondly, Fitbits can actually measure the amount of sleep you get. (Not sure how it does that… maybe it measures your pulse or overall motion.) So, you keep it on to know if you’re actually getting 8 hours of sleep at night, or if you’re up and awake half the night.

    With Book 8 over, I’m kind of trying to reflect on everything that’s changed over the course of this year’s worth of comics. It’s been a heck of a lot! Most characters are in different places than they started, some very different, even characters we normally don’t get focus on such as Mike (and Faz, a little!). But honestly, maybe it hasn’t even been that much more than usual for a single Book? Book 7 had some especially critical events go down, particularly Ruth’s breakdown and recovery, and Ryan being, uh, ‘dealt with’. Every Book has a lot of stuff happen, and to a lot of characters!

    And that’s what’s really impressive to me- Willis’s incredible pacing. For roughly 365 5-panels-on-average strips, a lot happens in this comic! And without ever feeling rushed, either. I’m an, uh, let’s put it politely and say ‘aspiring’ cartoonist, and I feel like I’ve learned a huge amount about writing from slowly coming to understand just how good Willis’s storytelling is. That’s one of the big reasons I’ve gotten obsessed with DoA over my few years of reading it. Obsessed enough to make effortposts once in a while, even.

    Anyway, Joyce is almost embarrassingly relatable today, and I was never even very repressed. It’s okay Joyce, it really does get better!

          IIRC, while all books have ended with characters in bed for the night, some chapters have done so as well.
          I think a couple have had a few bed shots in a row as well, so just the shot of someone in bed doesn’t necessarily mean that scene won’t continue.
