I’m also thinking of the time she lied to Ruth about quitting drinking. She didn’t lie this time, but I’m worried about her again just like I was then.
Emily
The only reason she didn’t lie is because Ruth preempted it.
BBCC
Yes, this is also true, but it’s also not the reason I’m worried.
I’m really glad that while Billie isn’t exactly being forthcoming or even completely honest here, she’s at least giving Ruth enough that she can tell that something is up
I want Billie to go to therapy, but also, boy, can therapy at college counseling centers suck. Not always! I’m just glad I’m past that point of things, as far as therapy goes.
It’s a gamble. In my experience, it can also be hard to switch who you’re seeing. “Oh, you don’t want to talk to this guy who asked if you were ‘over’ being sexually assaulted? Then you must not really need help!”
Of course, she hasn’t even gone yet, so the particular person isn’t the issue for her.
Pat
When I first went, the woman who interviewed me asked if I had a preference for a male or female therapist.
No, I said, but there was one person there I knew personally, so of course I didn’t want him to be assigned to me.
…
I had a disappointing experience when I went to mine. I loved my college, too, and I expected better. I went in to talk about my eating disorder that I’d hidden from everyone for about 10 years, so obviously revealing that to a real person was a huge step for me. The therapist was just like “ok” and had me do a breathing exercise. I’m not really sure if she didn’t believe me, or didn’t know what to do about it, or didn’t understand how deeply it affected me. And I appreciate a good breathing exercise, but she didn’t address the HUGE MAJOR SERIOUS issue I came in about. When I re-prompted, she told me to come back another time. I left more upset and confused than when I went in.
Billie’s got a habit of not wanting to sleep alone when she’s upset.
and I mean, in general, but I mean non-sexually (probably??) since she climbed into Walky’s bed, too, when she was upset enough. kept her pants on, though, I think.
But I failed to include reference to a song where the official video features a trio of serpent players, for which failure I can only hang my head in shame.

Am…I the only 1 thinking Billie is still ass up, rump pointing at the roof? She doesn’t seem to have moved at all, other than her head. I’m thinking she’s going to be a bit stiff. Maybe THAT’S why she hasn’t moved…
They aren’t sunny, they are just normal people not infected by the hatred of society… until some asshole does thinking they are doing them a “favor” (thanks fricking Rick Sanchez). Ruth and Billie both suffer the same problem, and they have to acknowledge that being codependent is going to hurt them more than stepping on a Lego brick. Depression isn’t some glorified magical feeling like Lars Von Trier (I hate him) wants to show off, it is a disease that spreads and hurts everyone around. Also, by sunny people do Billie refer to the students in the building, or the therapists?
You don’t have to be a cynic or a bitter pill to think they’re pretty sunny. It’s not a bad thing, they’re just very very cheerful and friendly (and sometimes struggle with boundaries). I’d say both Joyce and Becky are sunny too, but I wouldn’t say it about, for example, Dorothy or Danny or Ethan.
I feel like despite having more serious issues, Ruth is dealing with things in a healthier way than Billie, who feels she hasn’t reached low enough to accept help.
Exactly. Ruth saw herself as completely worthless dead weight the world would be better off without.
Billie still sees herself as a temporarily embarrassed cheerleader. Fawning from her new group of hangers-on in Forest Quad has treated the symptoms (just look at her reaction to Joyce’s visit), but she still has plenty of real problems to sort out.
Billie hasn’t accepted she has a problem yet. She’s acknowledged it occasionally when she’s in a low mood, but she’s not quite accepted the gravity of it.

Ruth knew the truth as soon as she woke up staring at Billie’s rear end.

Of course it was silly that Billie thought she could fool Ruth by propping up a mop with a picture of her face on it during group therapy.

That mop had a breakthrough and cried about its mother for 20 minutes.

Billie also goes to therapy? Must have forgotten that.

Well, as we see here, Billie doesn’t actually GO to therapy, but she is supposed to:

Good grief, these two are perfect for each other, and yet they also both deserve way better than each other.

I feel like despite having more serious issues, Ruth is dealing with things in a healthier way than Billie, who feels she hasn’t reached low enough to accept help.
autogatos
I agree that this is it exactly. Ruth hit rock bottom, Billie hasn’t.
Needfuldoer
Exactly. Ruth saw herself as completely worthless dead weight the world would be better off without.
Billie still sees herself as a temporarily embarrassed cheerleader. Fawning from her new group of hangers-on in Forest Quad has treated the symptoms (just look at her reaction to Joyce’s visit), but she still has plenty of real problems to sort out.
thejeff
Maybe. She’s definitely using the Forest Quad group to prop herself up, but she’s been down at the “I’m poison. I ruin everything I touch” level.
But yeah, Ruth has a better handle on the whole thing. Billie, for example, has never even tried to stop drinking as far as I can tell.
ValdVin
Agreed. Somewhere I’d forgot that Billie had been signed to do this, and now it’s troubling she hasn’t.
(And that’s not just because Spousal Ms ValdVin is an LCSW.)
