If Suet didn’t mean selfish, I mean it. Dorothy has never had a problem doing the thing that served her purposes, she has always had a problem with recognizing that’s what she was doing. She thinks she’s doing things for other people.
She wants someone to think she can solve their problems for them. Whether or not Walky and Lucy get back together isn’t for her to decide or orchestrate. If it’s something that Walky and Lucy decide to try, then it’s up to them to do it. Dorothy’s not the “team mom”.
I do think Dorothy genuinely want to be helpful and make things better for others, the issue being that she made that part of her entire sense of self, so she doesn’t really know what to do with herself when she is struggling so much mentally that isn’t trying to help, wherever or not she knows how to effectively do that at the moment.

IMO, Dorothy defines herself entirely by her present or future utility to others, and very much needs to figure out who she is if/when she isn’t either solving someone’s problems, or working to put herself in a position to solve more people’s problems. I have a terrible suspicion that if you were somehow able to compel an answer from her, ala magic lasso or similar, it would be “no one/nothing.”
Her kind of being helpful to others is to decide to make their decisions for them. It’s how she likes to see herself, as knowing what’s best for other people, even better than they know themselves, every time.

It’s not the worst character flaw, but its not great, especially for people who overestimate her competence. Not an American, but i can’t help wondering sometimes if it’s all intentional: the Democrats can draft bills to do good things the government don’t actually want to pay for, and the Republicans helpfully block it so they don’t have to go through with it, and the Republicans blame the Democrats for the problems they themselves are ensuring continue (and are sometimes adding to), confident that their voters will never doublecheck (other than, of course, those who prefer the poor unhelped)…
…and, due to the people believing the Republican claims, along with the flawed US electoral system, the Democrats don’t need to actually be good; they merely need to appear less evil than their opponents. And so both parties remain in a stable system of their own design.
But maybe I’m being too cynical? Then again, I’m not sure it makes a difference whether the results are intentional or if it just worked out that way.

Well, Washington apparently was opposed to political parties, and is quoted as saying “However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.”
I really only came back to say, though, that conspiracy theory or not, it wasn’t meant as one of those “both sides” things. Even if the Democrats aren’t good, per se, they at least seem less bad in practice. Maybe America can work toward a better way somehow, but that can be done while simultaneously voting blue as long as there are no better options.
The Founding Fathers were all generally opposed to political parties, but they then created a system that inevitably led to their rise. Most of them split off into factions within the first few election cycles – because it works.
A lot of the bad effects could be mitigated with instant runoff preferential voting so that you wouldn’t be “wasting your vote” by voting first for what you actually prefer, but it would weaken the existing dominant political parties and so it will never actually happen.
Some of the bad effects. I honestly doubt it would have much effect really.
It would mitigate the spoiler effects, which would be good, but it wouldn’t lead to an overthrow of the basic two party system.

So, that is a sign she is not narcistic. If I knew her irl, I could set a simple boundary, nothing that would truly hurt me, but something I have the right to set a boundary for, to see if she respects it. And I hope she would, she seems nice and easy to hang around.
But she’s a fictional character, so no empirical tests for us! We shall see if she is on her way to becoming a dark-triad bad boss-girl, or a cheery if bland and flawed individual, or something else.

Also, that has to be the worst cartoon I’ve ever seen. When I was working in a nightclub one of the other staff people insisted on putting it on the TV when it was slow. All I remember was screaming and horrible animation with lots of strobe effects. Oh, and I think one character was supposed to be a militant vegetarian or something.

Both invented new tropes and methods within the genre.

I’ve always had the same sort of weird mixed feelings towards Akira Toriyama that I’ve had towards, say, Jim Davis (of “Garfield” fame). I don’t actually like their comics all that much, and I REALLY don’t like how they influenced their respective genres. And yet…they were DEDICATED to their work, were INCREDIBLY good at making money and reaching a wide audience with it, and influenced SO MANY later works that I can’t exactly deny that many of my favorite series today wouldn’t exist without them. Also, by all accounts, both extremely nice people! So, yeah, I’ll mourn the death of a legend along with everybody else. RIP Toriyama Sensei.

He had an excuse for why that was an otherwise good idea, but I still find the timing suspect.) Wally having someone who encoruages him to do his best and Dorothy having someone who givers her outlets for slowing down is GOOD for them. It doesn’t have to be a serious relationship. But them touching base with each other would be a really good thing for bother of them. And they can fuck. They really need to fuck.

While I’m glad to see that they can continue talking, that doesn’t mean things are settled.

But I also remember her nightmare, besides Joyce, other people were there and among the dialogues, they say that Dorothy always has a solution for everything, because of that detail I have the feeling that she must have made a mistake before everything.
And precisely because of this detail, I continue to insist that we have to know a little more about Dorothy’s past.
I think at least part of it started with the incidents with Ryan, both times something terrible almost happened to two people she was close to, and she was right there and she couldn’t do a single thing about it. And of course there is the kidnapping, that as much as she did there I bet she constantly fell she could had done more, as unfair that is to herself.
Almost as much as she loves trying to take care of her friends when she doesn’t know how to take care of herself. Much like another character I love dearly.

Her “end” doesn’t really exist, because contrary to what Walky and many others are assuming, I don’t think this is just a “phase” where Dorothy mopes around for a while, and then suddenly returns to normal! When Raidah kicked her dreams, it triggered a cascade of real, genuine, EPIPHANIES for Dorothy – the type that can cause PERMANENT changes in a person.
Dorothy is kind of a mess now, and she will continue to be kind of a mess in various ways. She’s being selfish, crass, and inconsiderate, and will continue to be selfish, crass, and inconsiderate to lots of different people in lots of different situations. And she will never have the same confidence in her presidential career path that she had before, ever again. BUT, as evidenced here, she’ll continue to want to help people. I really only came back to say, though, that conspiracy theory or not, it wasn’t meant as one of those “both sides” things. Even if the Democrats aren’t good, per se, they at least seem less bad in practice. Maybe America can work toward a better way somehow, but that can be done while simultaneously voting blue as long as there are no better options.

I think, like Bella in Twilight, she is manipulative, but not consciously. Being ruled by emotions and image can lead to narcissism though. So I see why she’s so triggering.
But she seems to care about people too. She frets about niceness on surface level because to her, people’s actions belie their truth, not as though surface level is all that matters. So, that is a sign she is not narcistic. If I knew her irl, I could set a simple boundary, nothing that would truly hurt me, but something I have the right to set a boundary for, to see if she respects it. And I hope she would, she seems nice and easy to hang around.
But she’s a fictional character, so no empirical tests for us! We shall see if she is on her way to becoming a dark-triad bad boss-girl, or a cheery if bland and flawed individual, or something else.

Also, that has to be the worst cartoon I’ve ever seen. When I was working in a nightclub one of the other staff people insisted on putting it on the TV when it was slow. All I remember was screaming and horrible animation with lots of strobe effects. Oh, and I think one character was supposed to be a militant vegetarian or something.

I mean most db fans are willing to admit that Z and onwards aren’t great, especially compared to other shounen but it was still incredibly influential and important to a lot of people. And the original Dragon Ball journey to the west parody/retelling with a twist was nothing short of an incredible story and comedy(par some things that aged poorly, bc 80s) with great fight choreography. Both invented new tropes and methods within the genre.

I’ve always had the same sort of weird mixed feelings towards Akira Toriyama that I’ve had towards, say, Jim Davis (of “Garfield” fame). I don’t actually like their comics all that much, and I REALLY don’t like how they influenced their respective genres. And yet…they were DEDICATED to their work, were INCREDIBLY good at making money and reaching a wide audience with it, and influenced SO MANY later works that I can’t exactly deny that many of my favorite series today wouldn’t exist without them. Also, by all accounts, both extremely nice people! So, yeah, I’ll mourn the death of a legend along with everybody else. RIP Toriyama Sensei.

I fucking love these two’s rapport. Like, it feels like practically any time the two are in a strip together, the dialogues really pops.
Agreed that they’ve changed, but they keep bringing out the best in each other. Walky existing gives Dorothy permission to calm down. Notice how Walky usually did his best for Lucy when in sight of Dorothy. (Remember how he didn’t get off the floor with Amber until Dorothy pointed out that he should. He had an excuse for why that was an otherwise good idea, but I still find the timing suspect.) Wally having someone who encoruages him to do his best and Dorothy having someone who givers her outlets for slowing down is GOOD for them. It doesn’t have to be a serious relationship. But them touching base with each other would be a really good thing for bother of them. And they can fuck. They really need to fuck.

But I also remember her nightmare, besides Joyce, other people were there and among the dialogues, they say that Dorothy always has a solution for everything, because of that detail I have the feeling that she must have made a mistake before everything.
And precisely because of this detail, I continue to insist that we have to know a little more about Dorothy’s past.
I think at least part of it started with the incidents with Ryan, both times something terrible almost happened to two people she was close to, and she was right there and she couldn’t do a single thing about it. And of course there is the kidnapping, that as much as she did there I bet she constantly fell she could had done more, as unfair that is to herself.

Her “end” doesn’t really exist, because contrary to what Walky and many others are assuming, I don’t think this is just a “phase” where Dorothy mopes around for a while, and then suddenly returns to normal! When Raidah kicked her dreams, it triggered a cascade of real, genuine, EPIPHANIES for Dorothy – the type that can cause PERMANENT changes in a person.
Dorothy is kind of a mess now, and she will continue to be kind of a mess in various ways. She’s being selfish, crass, and inconsiderate, and will continue to be selfish, crass, and inconsiderate to lots of different people in lots of different situations. And she will never have the same confidence in her presidential career path that she had before, ever again. BUT, as evidenced here, she’ll continue to want to help people. She’ll continue to want to solve big problems for other people, and default to highly formal and methodical solutions. She’ll continue to be overprepared for many situations, and prone to excessive spreadsheeting and scheduling. Those things can all co-exist! And that’s totally OK.
