          In college, one of my professors and one of my fellow classmates would bet on football. And they’d both try to lose the bets. The “winner” would get a can of Diet Fresca that must have been “won” back and forth at least four times over the season.

          The original bet was for a can of soda, but when that “prize” was awarded, a new kind of game began to get rid of the damned thing.

          Yeah, I don’t think anyone ever dared drink that.

        I can honestly say that I have never heard of Sierra Mist softdrink before, the only lemonade I knoew of that Pepsi made was 7up.

          Actually, it is the odd thing about 7UP and Dr. Pepper. In some regions, both are bottled by other companies in some area other than the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group who was spun off from Cadbury Schwppes in 2000.

          However in the international market, Pepsi has the full rights to 7Up, so it does not distribute Sierra Mist in those markets. And that’s probably for the best since the product is awful.

          Though Pepsi had other lemon-lime drinks like Slice, Sierra Mist is in fact a fusion of lemon-lime and Dr. Pepper style drinks. It however gains nothing from either of its inspirations. And considering how long Pepsi tried to push Slice on the populace, Sierra Mist will be here in the United States for awhile.

          Am I the only person that legitimately can’t tell the difference between Sprite and Sierra Mist?

          I mean, I can tell the diff between Pepsi and Coke (and, truth be told, I prefer the former to the latter, if only by a little), but I’ve never noticed more than a slight difference in taste between Sprite and Sierra Mist.

          Of course, my taste in soda isn’t exactly normal. I tend to think that Dr. Pepper tastes like flat cherry coke that’s had *something* added to it.

          Sierra Mist is, at its core, too goddamn sweet. That’s the biggest problem with it. Sprite has a subtler flavor, Sierra Mist is overwhelming.

          Sierra Mist is a bit sweeter than I’d like, but I’ll drink it over Sprite solely because I’m not a huge fan of the Coke company. Personally, I preferred 7up to either of them before they got rid of the stuff that kills you. Now, I don’t really like it.

          Rights are confusing things. Here in this part of Canada, 7up, Dr.Pepper, Crush and Hires root beer are bottled and/or distributed by Pepsi. A&W Root beer, Fanta, Sprite, and Barq’s are all bottled/distributed by Coke. However the fountain-style restaurant systems don’t carry much of either no matter who owns it. If you go to McDonalds, the machines has Coke, Sprite and Barqs, that’s it. If you go to the food courts (eg Arby’s, Subway) and they are Pepsi, you get Pepsi, Hires Root beer, and maybe iced tea or something. Never the the stuff they licence/distribute.

          sorry I gotta jump in here and say… Sunkist, which is the nectar of Zeus, is also one of the odd bottled drinks. Where I live, Dr. Pepper bottles it.

          I can’t believe how many times I have to explain this, and how many times I ask for Dr. Pepper and I hear “sorry, we only serve pepsi products”.

          Worse yet no one quite believes you because they have only seen it bottled / distributed by one and not the other.

          Although I suppose this ailment could be solved by dropping the addiction to Dr. Pepper. 😛

          It’s like Dr. Pepper, it’s made a deal with both Coke and Pepsi to be sold in certain restaurants. I’ve seen a few places have 7UP in the fountains and I think it reaches deals with both companies as well to be served in places they are at, but not many. Most restaurants that serve Pepsi have the Sierra Mist product and Coke is Sprite of course.

          I like Sierra Mist though. Sprite is better, but Sierra Mist was all we had at KFC that was Caffeine Free.

          As a Canadian, I am almost in Mongoose’s boat. However, I have watched American TV and seen Sierra Mist advertised there. I’ve never had it, and thus cannot speak on its taste like so many others have, but I think it’s a US only product.

          I prefer Sierra Mist. It’s less carbonated, which means I’m actually able to drink it without my throat burning. Plus I think it actually does taste better, and I like Pepsi products better than Coke period.

      for the most part so can i, but i still have my preferences. coke vs pepsi, i like coke more but prefer the flavored pepsis over flavored cokes. i like sprite more than other lemon-lime sodas, but like cherry 7up more than sprite. all other fruit flavored sodas are interchangeable.

          I used to be a heavy Mountain Dew drinker back in my stay-up-til-7 AM-sleep-till-11AM-work-til-11PM-rinse-and-repeat days. Then one day I was drinking it and went “Gah, too sweet! Is it always this sweet?” and I haven’t really liked to drink it since then.

      I remember when I was a kid a friend of mine brought a drink in called Jolt Cola and I absolutely loved it. Unfortunately they didn’t sell it in my State (Ohio) and I believe they went out of business recently.

      Sussex brand cream soda, a drink that’s been unavailable since 1975. The closest I’ve found to that is Henry Weinhard’s, followed by Stewart’s, and then (to my surprise) Fanta, with Jone’s passing if nothing else is available.

      Stewart’s key lime soda is best served with sushi. Accept no substitutes. Spiced meats usually go best with ginger beer, but birch or spruce beer are better suited to deli sandwiches. For ice cream floats, it’s got to be root beer, and Mr. Weinhard gets my nod in this category.

      But by itself, it is cream soda, and it’s the one the Sussex brand used to make..

          I fail to see how that is even the slightest bit relevant. The drink was created so that Coca-Cola could continue to sell in Nazi Germany without getting bad press on their main product. It’s not as though the drink itself is somehow evil because of that. I’m not gonna get upset at a company trying to make money, that’s kind of what they do.

          Actually, the brand was created because the Coca-Cola company in Germany was cut off from the home company by the war and couldn’t get syrup to make Coke and instead came up with drinks they could make from available supplies and since it wasn’t Coke, they came up with the name Fanta. Until after WWII, the Coca-Cola company didn’t even know if the Nazi’s took over their plants or what.

          How can a drink be a “Nazi drink”? I’m aware of Fanta’s history, and… as you apparently are _not_ aware of, the guy who ran the coke factory and started making Fanta (because he couldn’t import the ingredients for coke) _never in fact joined the Nazi party_.

        I hadn’t until recently when Chipotle opened up in the mall that I work at (Chick-Fil-A) and then my old RGM from KFC became the GM at a place called Kolache Factory and they have mello Yello there as well. There are some Chick-Fil-A’s that also carry it.

      Wait. It seems as though peoples’ hypotheses that this is not in fact a keg party are gaining strength. This could just be an assembly of liberally-minded people (sort of like a College Democrats recruiting party?). After all, Billie DID put her shirt back on, that guy just gave Joyce a non-alcoholic and un-drugged drink, and these are supposed to be people that Roz considers her own.

    My campus has made a deal with the devil (i.e. Pepsi Co.), there is no Coke or Sprite sold anywhere here, only Pepsi and Sierra Mist. I feel Joyce’s pain.

          Faygo is a brand of soda manufactured out of Michigan and distributed through most of the Midwestern/Southern USA. They make a lot of flavors, and some of these are good while the others are comparable to a glass of…well…let’s just say they’re not so good. It’s the poor man’s sugar fix. I love their cream soda, and a flavor called “red rock and rye”, but the rest is positively AWFUL, Insane Clown Posse be damned.

          Why does everyone have to remind me that ICP is from my hometown? I spend a lot of time trying to forget that fact. And for those of you not from Michigan, here is a list of faygo flavors that are generally considered good:

          Red Pop, Rock and Rye, Moon Mist, Grape, Orange, Peach, Black Cherry, Cream Soda, Moon Mist (still under review IMO), Root Beer… anything with “Ohana” in the name (there’s a lot of them)

    Gotta sound out against Joyce in this (sorry everyone!). Sprite was always a poor substitute to 7-Up to my sense of taste, but it often ended up being what I had to drink at restaurants if I wasn’t in the mood for a Coke. I dunno, it always left a bit of an aftertaste I didn’t care for.

      It tastes like a watered down 7-up. It’s very hard to compare stuff bottled in the US because not every market is served by the same bottling company, so mixtures aren’t always the same. Here 7-up tastes more watered down than Sprite does. Pepsi products all do.

        I also heard it tastes diferent because of things like the water and the sugar used.

I can understand why Dorothy is being vigilant but if they were really worried about their safety, Joyce would have introduced her to Mike and they would have hired him to chaperone.

Yeah, it was only Sierra Mist (presuming that Joyce’s taste buds are a reliable detector of foreign substances), but good grief girl, you just accepted it and drank. After a warning that roofie-ing can happen! It’s cute that you’re cute and innocent, but being cute won’t help a puppy cross a highway either.

      Okay seriously, by your logic, no one should ever go to a party ever. The people who have the experience to know what and what not to do when they go to a party are the ones who have already been to parties. Yes, Joyce just did something which might be considered stupid, but then again, we’re assuming it’s the kind of party where someone’s going to slip something into someone else’s drink. For all we know, this could be a rather nice and relaxing party and Billie is the exception, not the norm. Either way, Joyce is no worse off than any other first-time party goer.

        I would hazard that the average partygoer isn’t *quite* this detached from reality. For a random example, Dorothy and the falling down drunk Billie are managing to be a bit more cautious than her.

          So are lots of other first time party-goers who STILL accept a drink from a person. Also, it’s a clear drink. It they slipped something in there, you would easily see some sort of sign, whether it be discolouration or pigments of something, so it’s easy enough for Joyce to have seen it was clear and drank it.

          Also, where are you getting this “detached from reality”? Joyce may not know everything about life, but she knows somethings. Also, Dorothy has openly stated that she knows as much about parties as Joyce does, and Billie falls under the category of “party veteran”.

          As for her memory and preservation skills, she appears to be good at Math which cannot be done if one does not have a good memory, and she has entered college alive, which suggests she managed to survive for almost two decades without dying or suffering any major harm.

      It’s a lemon-lime soda, similar to Sprite or 7up. It’s made by Pepsi, so it very well may be that they named it similar to Mountain Dew which has been around for a long time.
