*singing* The only boy who could ever reach me was the son of a preacher-man. The only boy who could ever teach me was the son of a preacher-man. Yes he was, yes he was.
Thank you for getting that song stuck in my head. Hopefully I will now spread the pain.

I don’t know it! I am immune to your ear worm! MUAHAHAHA!
Back when I was in college, the parents of a roommate came up for a visit. I has having a nice chat with them, when his mom said something to the effect of, “Well, I’m glad he’s doing well in school, but I didn’t send him to get a PHD, I sent him to get an MRS.”
I kind of chuckled and smiled, and then went back to helping my friend unload stuff from his parents’ car. It took me a good ten minutes to figure out what the heck she was talking about.

Going to college or uni for the express purpose of finding a husband might actually damage her chances of succeeding as they tend to act all desperate and that sort of vibe usually chases off any hopefuls.
Like your average “this is the first person I dated who was really not at all a good match for me at all but hey, we were young and dumb and mutually attracted to each other and dated because OMG it was so exciting not to be turned down immediately for once” couple.
SHOCKING PLOT TWIST: Joyce transfers out after one semester, ends up at Freed-Hardeman.

Or worse yet, Harding. *shudder*

I am British, and am completely lost regarding Bob Jones, Liberty, Freed-Hardeman and Harding. I shall have to take your word for it that they are shudder worthy.
Clemsonuee
They are Christian schools. I live in Greenville, SC and sometimes run into BJU students while they are out saving us masses. Sometimes you can have an interesting discussion with some of them. But mostly they veer away from that.
Fauxlosopher
Southern Illinois University, Carbondale campus. She’d have some…. interesting times, to say the least.
He’s kinda right. It’s stupid to go to school to find someone to get married to. Granted, it’s also stupid to go to school just cause your parents want you to.
Yeah! Better song stuck in my head!
“Look at us, us college kids.
What our parents told us is what we did…
Arts and crafts is all I need.
I’ll take calligraphy and then I’ll make a fake degree!”
Given that there’s no alien abductions (and thus, less durable biology)… if this timeline/universe has Nachitos, that’s potentially a very useful major for him.
Funny, I don’t remember those classes when I was studying telecommunications. It was pretty much phones/TV/networking/wireless.
David
I also studied telecommunications, and gmergruen’s description is exactly my experiences. Not so much yours. If it was yours, I never would have gone into it.
(Not that I finished it anyway. I transferred to art school.)
So, in the background, we have Danny, Joe, Amber, and Jacob!
Come on guys, where’s the usual ‘people in the background’ conversation? That’s what DoA comments used to be about. You’ve changed, DoA commenter people. Changed for the worse.
Especially since they had to go through the religion argument to get together in WalkyPrime. It would be epic to have them go through the same argument, end up in the rain…and she dumps him like HD-DVD.

Sounds like we can see their future is not so different from the other one.

yeah, there is no such thing as a godly man

We do have some! They’re called preachers. I think she’s at the wrong school.

Clearly, we have never met before.

starting to wonder now did he mean stupid to marriage or to becoming a teacher?
David Herbert
Possibly that she’s using a really expensive way of finding a husband.
Kamino Neko
Common, though.
Even to the point of there being slang for it: ‘The MRS Degree’.

Wrong…..There are quite a few of us that are Godly, but it’s rare.

Aw look, they act like a couple already.

At least she’s expressing her want and not following Walky home like a lost puppy. Oh Joyce, even bent realities can’t change your need for people.
Bickendan
Joyce, really, if you wanted to go to your school for your MRS, you should have gone to BYU.
George
Most fundies hate Mormons, though. If she isn’t convinced the campus includes a temple of Satan, I’d bet her parents and/or pastor are.
hoop
Yeah. She shoulda gone to Bob Jones or Liberty.

Trust me you can try to get an MRS anywhere. There are women who go to prestigious Ivy Leagues to get an MRS.

To be honest, I expected Walky to be going to school to become a Gastroenterologist.

So Joyce wants to become a teacher and Walky wants to be the person we call to fix our internet/phone/tv?
gmergruen
no telecommunications is movies and television

Walky majoring in something feels weird. Too used to the ol’ Walky being such a layabout.
Also, right now I’m thinking how funny it’d be if the older couple met this younger couple at this moment. *grin*
R
I don’t think DoA!Joyce would believe ItsWalky!Joyce. The two Walkys would probably have a good time hanging out.
Fauxlosopher
DoA Joyce and Walky!Joyce would have a major falling out. Three words.
Premarital. Hanky. Panky.
Walky!Joyce would probably allude to it in some way and DoA Joyce would go all SATAAANNN! on her.
RobertG14
I really want to see how this plays out
Keleso
Joyce is going to a school to find the perfect guy, but she’s going to a gender studies class? This spells trouble.
Kamino Neko
Oh, yeah. Even before confirmation she’s there for her MRS, my reaction to her saying she was in the class was ‘girl’s in for a shock’.
Ash
That IS stupid

Waly will grow up to be a TV tycoon -3-

Hey, everybody’s somebody! Random people with no names who may never show up in another strip have feelings have feelings too, you know.

But Willis, you have to only ever draw characters that we know and love! /sarcasm
Jabberwocky
But I was so sure that was Hubert in the green shirt :<
Someone
What R said. Plus, shes too dark for Amber. In fact, all of those people have huge reasons they’re not those people, wordofdavid not withstanding.
Also: Peoplewatching was neat for a while! Now we want to worm into the characters heads. Omnomnomnom…
Zem
It’s going to be the greatest trolling ever when these two ultimately don’t end up together.
This strip is a ood start.
