          Thank you, I did not recall that strip. 🙂 Same probably goes for other dinosaur-centric movies.

          Know what I really wish? That “Terra Nova” hadn’t gotten cancelled after one freakin’ season! 🙁 Sure, it wasn’t particularly any more accurate regarding the dinosaurs it depicted than pretty much any other dinosaur-based work, but it was a great series, I loved it!

          Also, the fact that Dina apparently finds the thought of Becky researching dinosaurs online to be rather a turn-on. WIIIIIN. 😀

          One of my greatest college achievements was getting snuggled by 3-4 girls at a part after a comedy show I performed in. It was one on the lap, and one on each arm, with a 4th girl cycling into the lap at one point. I was being smothered by ladies and it was fabulous.

It’s getting to the point where the average joe won’t be able to make it to first anymore.
          And it might be we’re already past that point. But by gum, I’m not going down without a fight.

      So much this. And it’s such a sweet gesture that Becky probably doesn’t realize the full importance of. Dina’s encounters with most people on dinosaurs is to kind of write her off as obsessed and ignore her. Becky actually went to the trouble to follow-up on everything she was saying. She took Dina seriously and wanted to learn more about what she was interested in and talking about.

      And not only that, but that was the thing that was most distracting about unfettered internet access. That instead of getting lost in any of the trillion of possible things to get lost in, Becky was most driven to look up the dino stuff she was talking about last night. That that really was the most pressing and distracting thought she had while juggling all the stuff Becky needs to survive.

      It’s so naively sweet that it makes so much sense that Dina would be recharged by it.

      Yeah, I initially misunderstood that, too. In retrospect, it seems really obvious that Dina was referring to her “social battery,” not the laptop battery. As someone who requires ample “recharge time” after social interactions, I should have picked up on that.

        Same, including the “I really should have gotten it” part. I was really confused, since the laptop’s power level was a meaningless thing to mention unless it meant Becky was lying, but Becky certainly wasn’t reacting like she’d been caught in a lie.

        Then I reread the strip and everything made sense.

        I think it’s the fact that I have a low powered social battery that kept me from getting it at first (though I didn’t think it was the laptop battery…I thought she was talking about Becky’s awesomeness). I can’t think of any situation that could move me from ‘need recharge’ to ‘fully charged’…but I’ve always had friends who were interested in the same things as me, so I can’t really say how I would respond if someone went out of their way to learn about something I was into in order to connect with me.

      I suspect that Becky might be better at accidentally girlfriending than intentionally girlfriending as without effort she can be vulnerable and intimate and sweet, but as we’ve seen with her persona of friendship, her intentional self plays too hard to bury and mask those as she doesn’t want to look like a “sad sack”. So I’m hoping that Becky keeps stumbling and bumbling for a while longer because her and Dina are so adorable as FUCK right now.

I can imagine her horror at the thought that this research on dinosaurs might be the gateway to research on godless topics such as evolution. The horror!

    In addition to all the other adorable and sweet aspects of this comic, lookit super-extrovert Becky getting over her disappointment and being extra considerate of Dina’s introversion in panel 3.

      Yes, so much. As a massive introvert, I so identify with panel 3 and Becky’s handling of that is so beautiful. It’s like, oh right, that’s a thing for people. I’m initially disappointed, but I want to make a show of how much I respect that boundary…

      Actually, I squee for everything to do with Becky’s respect for Dina’s boundaries at every point. It’s so clear that Sarah’s retelling of Joyce’s tale and her guilt about the surprise kiss is really having Becky double check on everything and it’s so super adorable and wonderful, because she so badly wants to do this right more than she wants to get exactly what she wants. It’s just so beautifully respectful at every point.

      And that just makes Panels 5-6 so much sweeter, because Dina was drained and out, but the raw sweetness of something Becky did by accident made her feel refreshed and capable of handling a little more social activity (albeit probably by her rules, so I’m going to guess quiet cuddling while Dina does something else or something).

      I just… this comic is basically cuteness overload with all the good relationship practices in it.

        Nah, I think it’s still an introvert thing. It was just a really sweet gesture. I’ve been drained sometimes and someone does something really sweet for me and its like a snooze alarm on my internal clock and can keep me for crashing into self-care for a little longer. Though that’s only about 50/50 for whether or not it works… and it really sucks when it doesn’t. Aww, that’s so unbelievably sweet and I’m nonetheless still too drained to accept it… 🙁

      Depending on the University, she may not have had any private access to the internet. She probably wouldn’t have had an interest in dinosaurs, but not being able to do anything in private would have kept her from being free to use it in general.

      Some places might also augment that with limited access.

      I’ve got an acquaintance who goes to one– the access is not censored per se, but it is monitored in such a fashion that if someone looks up two people puttin’ their giblets together, that someone is in a load of doo-doo.

      It’s possible that the religious university’s library had internet, but it was probably heavily censored owing to the proclivities of the parents who send their kids there. But it definitely was the case that all studying and classwork that Becky was shown to be doing involved book work of some kind.

    I’ve been reading DoA for years, this is the first time I’ve commented, just because as someone with some extent of high-functioning aspergers and no small degree of social anxiety, I COMPLETELY understand where Dina’s coming from in the second panel.

    I’m in a wonderful relationship myself, and have friends I value greatly, but spending long stretches of time in a highly social context is exhausting on an emotional and mental level. As much as I enjoy my friends’ company, it would wear on me greatly to spend any longer than a weekend with them at once, and – depending on a series of factors as to ‘how often’ – I reasonably frequently just need some alone time. Reading, playing games, lying back and thinking, doing some creative work. Something quiet and some chance to regather my own energy.

Even though he eventually grew up and become a better person like he was in It’s Walky, the idea that he’s “one of the best examples” of a genuinely nice and friendly person is silly.

    All joking aside, I hope this doesn’t become a problem. Dina is a textbook introvert, and Becky an extrovert. Becky seemed a bit taken aback by Dina’s needing alone time, but that’s exactly how it works with us quiet ones. Regardless of how much she might enjoy it, it IS very tiring to interact with people for an entire day.

      Becky sounded surprised, but not upset. Intro/extro pairings can, in my experience, work quite well, if the two can figure out how to interact with each other. Dina seems interested in social growth (at her own pace), and Becky seems willing to give her space – that’s a good starting place.

      And Dina may find that Becky is one of the few people that don’t exhaust her to interact with them. So far they haven’t spent much time with just the two of them.

    So much cute on this page, but one thing is just so slightly heartbreaking and that’s Becky’s apology for drifting off job searching. She’s already begun internalizing the “need to stay on the ball 100% of the time narrative and feeling bad when she drifts off it. She’s been through so much of late and has never had full access to the internet before, but still feels she needs to apologize to her girlfriend for not being “productive” enough after its been what a weekend and a day?

    It’s really sad, but everything else is so sweet it so makes up for it.

    Seriously, Beckysaurus is my favorite couple we’ve seen so far.

      Basically, Becky feeling like an outsider and being a tiny bit shy about her homeschooled status in the face of her smart girlfriend. She doesn’t know that most people view Dina’s dinosaur interest as childish in itself, and how much it means to Dina that someone takes it seriously.
