I miss that little bastard; he really brought something unique to QC.
Differentiator
Yeah, yelling bird was a unique little s***! Nowadays QC is unfortunately just uniquely s*** :/
ZombieKyrik
I enjoy QC a lot, but I can understand why some people are frustrated with it.
GreyICE
Common creator issue, they base it on pathos in their own life, it’s popular enough, they stop being in their early 20s and their pathos sorts itself out, suddenly their work loses purpose.
Accelerated because QC ended like 5 years ago, it’s just ongoing because that’s how Patreon works and you don’t kill the golden goose.
Nymph
Oh, I genuinely am still enjoying QC. I’m loving all the bots in the cast now, and the different ways their expression of themselves affect the original cast. I’m also really enjoying the new microcast of fucked up 20-somethings that the older cast has essentially decided to mentor.
It’s helpful to remember that people like different things, and something being not to your personal taste doesn’t mean it’s objectively trash and just being kept on life support. It’s just not for you anymore, there are plenty of webcomics I’ve lost interest in over the years too. It happens!
Marisa Mockery
Very true, but I agree with GreyICE. I stopped reading about 5 years ago and honestly every time I look back it gets worse. The foot fetish thing? The toilet fanfiction? The current Faye stalker? The endless parties instead of plot? What on earth happened to you QC? Jeph got bored imo, that’s why he keeps introducing new characters. To each their own, but yeah. To each their own. I miss when Jeph cared.
Endless parties? They’ve only had like seven in the last three years.
Morrismorris
Yeah, I’m still really enjoying QC, I think that the gentle shift in perspective of the characters is pretty relatable and it still makes me laugh. There’s so much media and so many stories where the characters are fucked up and never get to heal or grow and never find real lasting peace and security and I’m really glad that Jeff has made it so that QC’s core cast is a group of people who are caring and good-hearted and want to look out for each other and help others too. Like that might be too saccharine for your tastes but honestly for me where life is pretty tough and can be isolating having a story where things get resolved and issues get worked through and people get better is honestly really important.
Differentiator
While I agree with that stance on principle, there are several well-founded reasons why I think QC jumped the shark long ago. Granted, these are from when I stopped reading shortly after the introduction of “Shitty Dan” (was Dan his name? The guy who felt “free” because he got bullied), so it might have changed in the meantime.
– The drawing effort and consistency, after improving from the beginning, got worse and worse
– The timelines got more and more drawn out, which felt like the plot was stalling; compare this to DoA where time does move slowly, but consistently so
– Characters just disappeared without any reasoning, no proper sendoff. Steve’s young girlfriend went away to study, Angus got his TV gig, but after that Characters just stopped showing up, namely Steve himself.
– New Characters were mainly tropes/caricatures; as someone who had been bullied in Highschool for years, Shitty Dan was my breaking point. That freedom nonsense felt not only lazy, but dismissive and wrong, and other people said the same things about other characters, which I couldn’t quite relate to, but still absolutely understand
– I detest people not being open to criticism, and JJ is/was the epitome if that, no matter how constructive it is/was.
Allen Alberti
i refuse to support or endorse this QC hate. QC and DoA are the only two webcomics I read daily. (i read lots of other webcomics but they don’t have continuity so i just bunch them all up on weekends.)

It’s always funny to see people self censor outside of contexts like, YouTube auto hiding comments with too much profanity or something. If it’s not your first time commenting you’re free to cuss, dude! Shit, fuck, piss!
Psychie
It’s because *most* comment sections have some kind of auto-censor, so at this point it’s easier to just censor by default to avoid having something happen to your comment. Plus, even when there isn’t an auto-censor, most comment sections without one have some kind of moderation going on and a “no cussing” rule is frankly very common, so again, censoring by default becomes a good practice. It’s not always easy to keep track of what the rules are where, so developing a heuristic that’s the least likely to cause a problem anywhere just makes sense.

I honestly prefer current QC to older QC, I feel like Jeph’s writing has gotten a lot better, especially when looking back at the first sets of pages. I have that same feeling with Willis’s work I can’t really get through the walkyverse but I love DOA.
The older pages do have some roughness. Remember when Faye randomly stopped using contractions for a bit, Steve dated a 17-year-old girl, and multiple characters made really off-center jokes about queer people?
Yeah! He’s clearly developed more friendships with queer people and women, and now the characters are more relatable and interesting.
I mean, I do miss some of the pathos, and I hope he leans into Claire being kind of a jerk to Marten because of her poor work life balance, but overall I really appreciate the greater maturity.
yak
QC has changed in some ways but it’s really the same at the core, IMO.
I know by reply threading that you mean “everyone should kiss”, but my first instinct was to read this as “everyone should do better” and I choose to read it that way.
While only Becky and Dina actually kiss, they do all get into a naked cuddle-puddle eventually, but not until the final act of the theatrical version of Kill La Kill which they all get talked into performing in during the next story arc.
Letting Amber choose the play, and then demanding that she write the script herself, was probably a mistake, though the biggest mistake was from Amber herself – she tried to wriggle out of it by picking subjects the drama professor would reject, but after her first two proposals (propositions?) for plays based on either My Immortal or one of the more steamy entries from the website were turned down, the instructor got fed up and just agreed in order to spite her.
She probably should have seen this coming, though, as she was only picked in the first place because the drama professor was a fan of her Batman/Superman slash fics.
Schol-R-LEA;2
That should have read, “one of the more steamy entries from the Sith Academy website”, I must clipped it unintentionally.
I believe this was the start of their journey, it was after that night that they had what Joyce would define as sex. ~<3
Nymph
Given the post on the patreon (it’s a free post, you can peek at it if you want) where Willis ran through all the little hints and moments he’s included over the years and all his planning that went into making things explicit… this was absolutely not the start of their journey. It was just the start of it becoming too much to hide anymore.
For data security, the server has been relocated to space. At first, it was in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), where it had low lag, but the Russians and Chinese started nudging their sat killers too close. So the server was relocated to Middle Earth Orbit (MEO). But those pesky uruk-hai have been too omni-present, and it became a dangerous place. So now the server is in Geo-Synchronous Orbit (GSO). Like, out where the GPS satellites hang out. Things are much safer out there, but, yeah, the server keeps getting its time stamps increasingly wrong. (which is ironic, given that it’s neighbors are the most precise of time-keeping satellites that we have)
Yes, it’s nice to see the couples drifting off to do their own thing while Joyce and Dorothy talk. Billifer doesn’t really care about who Joyce has sex with or how, she only has eyes for her friend, aw! Carla and Charlie have already completely forgotten what just happened. And the unalloyed joy that Joyce has every time she sees her best friend is like a hug.

When lots of people start hammering the reload it creates relativity effects that alter the perceived local time.
