        And at the end of it is the realization that Joyce needs more support than she’s been given.

          I don’t know, given that Dorothy’s last views on the subject boil down to ‘if I’d been more hands-on about guiding Joyce she wouldn’t have done this gross thing.’ This plaus the awkward/embarrassed look at Ethan says that Dorothy’s main goal for now at least is the ‘guidance’ (which constitutes control of Joyce, however gentle and well-intentioned) she mentioned..

          I hope Joyce gives her cause to shift from ‘I must tell you what to do for your own good, poor sweet idiot that I love’ to a more honestly concerned ‘tell me what’s really going on because something’s definitely going on.’ But so far Joyce has only opened up under deep stress, and then only to someone who has a subscription of issues herself.

          Yes! And indeed to be romantic without being at all sexual, going by what I’ve been reading about asexuality. Erin and Jamie in “Girls with Slingshots” are a nice example of what’s possible- Jamie’s an actively heterosexual woman; Erin’s a lesbian who has little-to-no interest in sex; and they’re a couple. And it’s written to feel very plausible.

        Never mind, that face isn’t chagrine….maybe unyielding delight that Dorothy still wants to hang out–more often, even–despite now being aware of the gay (ex-) boyfriend thing, although she doesn’t know about the ex part quite yet.

        I do have to wonder how many people will be ending up going to dinner, though. Dorothy, walky, Joyce, probably Ethan, probably Becky, probably Dina (she just appears in group outings somehow)…maybe they’ll run into Amber and Danny on the way, too.

          Oh, and I doubt that Joyce presently knows that Dorothy has finally clued in to what she’s been hiding. Dorothy has given an uneasy glance at Ethan, but I think that was overridden in the mind of Joyce by I GET MORE DOROTHY TIME!

          Yah seriously. You know, being openly gay might actually be the best thing for Ethan’ s personal development, because his lifelong model for male behavior in heteroromantic relationships is “stifle everything and go with the flow” and that’s reeeeally unhealthy. Been there.

          Whereas in a male homoromantic relationship, he has no behavior model to follow since they’re both dudes, so there’s no mold to try to break out of and he can go and grow at his own pace…hypothetically. he might just end up going with someone else’s flow again…but I feel like he wouldn’t immediately default to basically arm candy at first.

      Dorothy is hanging out with her more! Previously Dorothy has either been studying or with Walky. Dorothy’s recent conversation with Walky had her admit her affection for Joyce and loosen up on the studying regimen, so Dorothy is communicating both of those things to Joyce.

Danny’s in the same boat, though we know Dorothy’s 19 now, so she was definitely 18 for most if not all of her senior year.

        I kinda agree, but with the slow timeflow of the comic it would feel rushed to dive into a new relationship without proper buildup. Most of the characters I REALLY want to see doing the bangy-times (such as Becky and Ethan… not with each others, obviously) will take months and months and months before they are anywhere close to ready.

        I would love to see one of Roz’ videos. It would be a fun change of pace to actually frame the Slipshine as a PSA about condoms. “You put it on like… THIS, thanks Joe, and put it in like…. this… THANKS, Joe. Don’t forget to lube!”

    Preeetty sure the last two panels signify that Joyce knows Dorothy knows. I see a little bit more deer in headlights (and maybe relief that she doesn’t have to conceal her actions anymore) than “OMG Dorothy time!” Just sayin’.

    Speaking of OMG, panel 3 depicts a Joyce smile. It’s not one of her huge, triangular, all-embracing, disease-curing smiles, but it is a real smile, not an embarrassed or teary one. I’ve missed those so much in the last several weeks.

    It may be too much to hope that dinner will involve talking about all the things, starting with Joyce breaking up with Ethan and getting all the way into why she needs help getting outside. But that would be so awesome.

      Unless he wants to use this opportunity to come out to Joyce’s friends (in case he feels the need to explain the ordeal he put her through) he really doesn’t have a reason to keep lingering.
