Doubtful. He has to know she’s likely to be there, most of his conversations with Sarah revolved around Joyce, after all. She’s not the surprise roommate.
If you have a 3ds with streetpass on, and you walk by someone else with a 3ds with streetpass on, you automatically trade certain information based on games you have in common. For example, if you both have the game “Animal Crossing: New Leaf”, you’ll be able to see the in-game house of the person you streetpassed.
Nintendo 3DS thing. If 2 3ds systems that are on and have their wireless on pass by each other they will exchange data and unlock things for certain games and/or 3DS apps on both systems.
The puzzle piece thing Ethan is talking about is from a mini-game in the Mii Plaza app. Every now and then Nintendo releases a new panel of an image for a game and will give each person 1 random piece (out of 16-40 pieces) from that panel. When you street pass someone else you can pick what panel piece you get from them. Once you get all the pieces from 1 panel you unlock a (sometimes) animated 3d and rotatable image/diorama of that image.
AKA the reason I always carry my 3DS with me and why I seriously consider carrying my second around with me, too. One day I will complete all the puzzles. One day…
Its a form of certification in certain totalitarian states like Russia and Arizona that the masses are required to display in order to enter or leave certain blocks within cities.

This isn’t related to the events of the comic right now, but it randomly occurs to me that the title of this arc may be referring to Becky’s inability to get over Joyce. As in, the metaphorical butterflies in her stomach won’t leave.
Nintendogs had a similar concept (you can put the game in “searching for puppies to play with” mode) so I deduced StreetPass = timesink and social interaction gotcha.
At first I seriously built like 3/4 of my Norende with my 1 villager by leaving my ds on overnight for weeks. And then I went to a con and got the rest of my village built in a day. @-@
Amber isn’t so easily swayed by Street-Passes anymore. Also, that slinking away seems like it might be happening. Just don’t let Ruth find out about this party.

He’d be there for AT LEAST, three seconds.

You misspelled “Walky.”
No Name
And “Nachitos”

Pretty sure we’ve seen a preview of Walky with his own bag of chips, so he’s coming prepared.
DarkoNeko
Eh, he can just bring some.

Future Amber: That reasoning won’t work on me… an eleventh time!
(Dammit where’s that puzzle piece)
Yet_One_More_Idiot
Amber: Dammit Ethan, that reasoning won’t work on me a fourth time!
*whip-cut to first panel of next day showing Amber attending said party*

I totally understand the streetpass puzzle piece feelings. I NEED those pieces.
otusasio451
Ah, the old StreetPass gambit. Works every time…for the first three times.
Jupiterror
oh god streetpass puzzles
Flipz
I feel the same pain. >_<
Plasma Mongoose
I have to ask, what is a Street-Pass?
Doc
It’s the thing that 3ds’ have when they pass each other.
Plasma Mongoose
Oh! So it’s for people who seek to play multiplayer mode then? Cool!
Hoboturtle
Yes its like multiplayer except you dont have to play with those “other people” that some people love so much.
Yet_One_More_Idiot
3DS? Blecch. Sorry, but I prefer an optical projection system that doesn’t give me headaches and mild nausea. (Is stereoblind)

Sounds more like match-making…

-shakes fist- Dang you Street-Pass puzzle pieces and my lack of similar-aged peers that blame games.

Blame games?
Opus the Poet
You haven’t played the blame game before? It’s loads of fun…
Opus the Poet
Probably should include a link… http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/blame_game

The blame game, I know that one:
Seanie!
Seanie, Seanie, bo-ba-nee
Bo-na-na fan-na, fo-fa-nee

Seanie!
Opus!

wait, BLAME game. Sorry, never mind.

Hmmmm. Possibly both Becky for Joyce and Danny for Ethan?
Aubri
And Ethan for Jacob.
Doctor_Who
And Jacob for Other Jacob.
Tenn
…Wait, what?
TSB
Great point about Danny. Yeah, it’s probably both of them.
Someone
Someone brings butterflies to the party and they gain a taste for human blood.
JustCheetoDust
I think that only applies to certain butterflies.
Flipz
Really? I figured it was just a reference to “Party in the U.S.A”.
David M Willis
it can be both

Bimetaphor?

Am I the only one who had to Google ‘Streetpass’?

I knew what it was but not enough of the specifics to get the joke.

DarkoNeko
I didn’t, I read the comments instead XD
Deanatay
Nope. Although I didn’t know what it was, I just read through the comments. Eventually, someone asked what it was, and got an explanation.
Actually, seven of them, but, yeah.
Doctor_Who
*PSST* Amber…the secret is conventions.
Every time I go to a con, I just leave my 3DS in my pocket. Any place with a concentration of nerds that dense is a goldmine.
Now get back to work rebuilding my Bravely Default village, slaves! BWAHAHAHA!

Don’t get Amber angry, Ethan. You wouldn’t like her when she’s angry.
Flimsyfishy
Amber isn’t so easily swayed by Street-Passes anymore. Also, that slinking away seems like it might be happening. Just don’t let Ruth find out about this party.
Warfoki
But Billy is invited, no? I kind of doubt that Billy goes without Ruth even knowing about the party.
tim gueguen
I wouldn’t be surprised if we see an appearance by Ruth, sober or drunk, that puts her relationship with Billie and position as RA at risk.
(Because of my bad typing I almost wrote Billie as Villie, and RA as RAT.)
Solenoid
Will we, perhaps, need to change the excuse to another game next time? Only time will tell.
Kris
There’s only really one other person in her social group that owns a 3ds anyway and he’s not invited
newllend(henryvolt)
Sal ? I know she doesn’t Really own a 3ds but That’s the only one I can think of and I don’t know why she wouldn’t be invited.
Leorale
Danny.
