No, CianM is right. Its the one were Jack and Aku decide to have a duel where Jack won’t use his magic sword and Aku won’t use magic or any of his minions. Of course Aku cheats, but Jack was expecting that.
To be fair, if she didn’t already know, the next few strips would have been hilariously awkward. Well, they’ll still be hilariously awkward, but not in the same way.
Joyce has been told about several times now, the only reason she finally went “Oh my geez, he’s gay” this time was because her ‘boyfriend’ actually told her himself.
Yeah, that was a pretty dick move on Sarah’s par–ahhh, screw it. I’ve bongoed about Sarah in previous strips enough. I’ll just put another tally mark in the appropriate column and just express future >:( at Sarah there. It gets too tiring otherwise. 😛
Given Joyce’s demonstrated capacity for repression and denial, I suspect Sarah thought Joyce would manage to still not know even after being told directly.
So Dumbing of Age moves at roughly 0.09921% real time. At that speed this comic will be finished in over 750 years.

You’re forgetting about the 5 year time jump David throws in after this school year ends! Joyce & Joe are married while most of the characters fade into the background while David introduces new characters to take the lead.
The really funny part is that I just did the actual rough estimate and it came out at a little over 40 years, maybe about 45 (and, yes, I know he’s only doing Freshman year). Assuming he does it in the same detail he has been, this comic already depends on Willis living to a ripe old age.
Oh, scratch that! More like 50 years. Not even a week of content per year.
Groove
It’s kind of crazy when you think of it like that. I went back to the first strip the other day to see how much the art style has changed and it’s kind of ridiculous to see how much has happened with only a few weeks passing.
It’s also a clever way to have the status quo maintain for long periods even when character development in strip time is at a breakneck pace (which is pretty realistic for the first weeks away at college).
Josh
So far we’ve got a little over a week a year, on my last count today should be Thursday week three, but DoA is only 2.5 years old.
Not that that is much better, epically when we skipped three days of it waiting for some Pajama Jeans. xD
hmrc4evr
Nope. DoA will be Walky’s tribute to Simon Furman.
Why?
Because IT NEVER (will) END!
Roborat
Pretty clever of Willis to ensure he has work until he retires, or dies, whichever comes first.
That being said, I have given up worrying about the timeline and just enjoy the comics.
Ivan
How do current mortality rates fit in for this age group when compressed by 50 years? Basically we should be seeing many of the characters dying off well before finals.
I’d love to have “In-universe Date and Time” added above the tags on each comic, so we can really keep track of how long it’s been 😀
David
Well, considering DoA doesn’t take place in any specific year, that wouldn’t work at all. If I say it’s September the fifth, for example, and we know it’s a certain day of the week, that kind of makes it one year or another.
A5PECT
How about tracking time by the in-universe college schedule?
So the first strip would be tagged S1W1, which would stand for “semester 1, week 1.”
Li
But he doesn’t really want to keep track of time like that.
David
Yeah, I’m not really sure it really matters. Stuff happens when it happens. Would it make a difference at all if this were week 5 or week 7?
Aegon01
Be like Andrew Hussie and do a ton of acts and intermissions. It probably won’t be incredibly confusing.
As nice as an open relationship would be, I suspect Joyce and Ethan would be uncomfortable with non-monogamy.
Something about that couple doesn’t really scream “I have overcome traditional ideas about sexual morality!” Can’t put my finger on what it is, though…
I tried it once, but I ended up in a bad stage musical that included an incestuous Star Wars dream sequence set to “Believe It Or Not” from The Greatest American Hero.
And because you’ll never believe that’s a thing that exists… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wk9pnsU5ilE
It was a random performance but that was the best video I could find of it on Youtube. That’s an actual thing in the script.
Cholma
Forget Zoobille Zoo! I now have the Greatest American Hero Theme earworm. Personally, I call that a WIN.
Believe it or not

Yeah, of all the songs they could’ve set an incestuous Star Wars dream sequence to, that was definitely one of the more awesome choices. Albeit a pretty bizarre one.
hmrc4evr
Greatest American Hero needs a reboot!
Or DC/WB could get off their collected asses and DO SOMETHING along the same lines but with Billy Batson/Captain Marvel.
Hell since Marvel owns Malibu comics they could do a Prime series.
But there’s just as much a chance of those happening as seeing a return of Amalgam Comics on a regular basis.
My current earworm is Prokofiev’s Arise, Ye Russian People from Alexander Nevsky, which has the unfortunate side effect of making me want to run out and slaughter Germans.
Dicrel Seijin
I thought you were joking. I can’t believe that it’s really real.
StClair
What makes this even better is that William Katt auditioned for the role of Luke. (You can find that on Youtube as well.)
So Joyce’s homeschooled friend, with very likely the same amount of worldly wisdom and sophistication as Joyce herself, is going to advise Joyce on this rather tricky relationship boondoggle?
Yeah, right.
That conversation would be worth overhearing.
According to their preacher, Joyce is the well-adjusted one, hence she was trusted with going to a big state school full of sinners. Becky is the one who couldn’t handle a secular university.
TinHeart
Does this mean, she was the only one indoctrinated enough that her preacher was sure that the ‘sinners’ wouldn’t be able to ‘corrupt’ her, or does this mean she was the one the least intense about her indoctrination and hence able to get along with the least suspicion?
The thing to understand about religion is it rarely works like a cult since religious leaders usually believe it, removing a lot of the “sinster manipulation” aspect–even in fundamentalists.
David
I think if we arbitrarily decide that a cult can’t be a cult if its leader buys into his/her own delusion, then there are a hell of a lot of cults that aren’t cults. If David Koresh didn’t buy into his own press, I’m pretty sure he’d have been waving a white flag in about 30 seconds once the FBI surrounded his compound. And I think we can agree he was a cult leader, yes?
begbert2
If you’re going to forgo the standard definition of a cult (“Any religion I [the speaker] don’t belong to”), then you’re unlikely to find a consensus as to the definition. Personally I think there are several factors to look at: the degree to which the religion tries to separate their members from outsiders, the degree to which it tries to control and manipulate information, and the degree to which it idolizes its past and present mortal leaders. It’s tempting to also include how focused it is on money, but that really only indicates corruption, rather than cult status specifically.

Reminds me of that one episode of Samurai Jack.

I feel like I should know this one… it involved the Scotsman, right?
CianM1301
I believe it was the episode where Jack and Aku fought man-to-man out in the desert, or man-to-demon.
Roborat
I seem to remember that was virtually every episode.

This strip is all kinds of awesome.

You didn’t think Joyce knew and THAT’S how you would’ve broken it to her, Sarah?

Yeah, that was my reaction, too.

I would’ve danced around it but apparently Sarah is a direct type of person.

It’s difficult to dance around things after Sarah’s taken a bat to your knee.

It’s not really unwittingly then, is it?

Wittingly, really.

Or un-unwittingly.

Unwittingly my wit fails to make me wittingly wit.

Wait, why does Joyce have a band-aid on her arm?

She got a flu shot. Last week for us, ten minutes ago for her.
