          Droid. I’ve tried disabling it, I’ve checked tutorials and FAQs on how to disable it, I’ve handed it off to people who I know are more tech-savvy than me and people who claim to be more tech-savvy than me.
          It never works. If anything, it’s lately taken to correcting even perfectly valid words to similar words that I type more frequently, or capitalizing them as I more usually do.

          I got droid too but it uses a Google keyboard and I haven’t had any real issues with it.

          The worst is my Amazon Fire–it’s spellcorrect is by Sirius Cybernetics.

          Instead of auto-correct, the google keyboard gives you a choice of possible words as you type, if it’s one of those words, you just click on it, otherwise you just continue to type.

          I have that, which is occasionally useful. I can turn it off, but autocorrect seems to be independent of it.
          Eventually I’ll deal with it, but for now laziness reigns.

          I often end up in deep dark strange corner of my imagination and wonder how the hell I got there.
          To amuse myself I try to retrace my “steps” and figure out what brought me there and I usually find the turning point.
          Try that with Wikitropes, there goes another 4 hours and nowhere near where you started.

      I’ve seen other people say ‘Ethanny’ I think. I want to ship them so hard, but there’s the whole Amber complication, and I don’t want to see her get hurt (again) – she has enough problems.

      I know people toss up polyamory as a potential option but the characters in question all seem a bit nervous and inexperienced to me. I’d have figured you’d need a certain level of confidence to decide to enter into a polyamorous relationship. I could see Roz being all cool with being in a relationship where one or more parties involved have more than one partner, but Amber, Danny and Ethan all strike me as being a bit too skittish and uncertain in themselves and their sexualities to be ready for that sort of thing just yet. Maybe when they’re older, but not just now.

      Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing how it pans out.

        Also there is a certain amount of life experience required to accept poly as a personal identification and not feel guilty. I couldn’t handle it until my kids were out of elementary school and I could start to deal with them as separate individuals instead of Kid 1, Kid 2, Kid 3, Cat 1… (whoops!)

      Danny’s danning it up by being oddly hostile in the tone of his questioning of Ethan as a result of Danny being oblivious to the obvious (and therefore shocked). He doesn’t mean to be judgmental, but he’s so insecure and scared what people think of him that he might come off as judgmental to someone who is a character and doesn’t get to see how consistently awkward Danny is. Seriously, he’s defensive and in denial despite being in a very safe place.

        I mean, this step for Ethan and Danny might be the healthiest, most proactive step for genuine seeking of competent care that we’ve seen a character do yet.

    I am not getting this ‘Danning it up’ thing. Danny shows up in the comic, he reacts like a human being to things, and people start making comments about how he’s ‘Danning it up’. Every time he shows up. Why are there no comments about Ethan ‘Ethaning it up’ or Joyce ‘Joycing it up’ or anyone else? He is a person, he reacts like a person, I quite like him, he’s an interesting character, yet everyone seems to be down on him every time he does or says anything. I don’t get it.

        But this seems to me like a perfectly normal response, not any special brand of incompetence. He’s not being incompetent, he’s being human (arguably those are the same thing I guess).

        Step 1. Attend gay info party to try to find out more information about your sexuality that you recently realised is more complicated than you’d thought.
        Step 2. Run into guy you fancy who thinks you are straight.
        Step 3. Panic slightly, say something stupid and leave.
        Step 4. Brain kicks back in enough to realise that the guy you thought was straight is also at the gay info party.
        Step 5. Return to find out why previously-assumed-to-be-straight-guy is at the gay party.

        I’m pretty sure that exact scenario, or one very like it, has played out thousands of times in real life, maybe billions of times. He’s not being incompetent, he’s not counteracting his own best interests, he’s not even actually blowing his cover because that sort of panicked response is hardly convincing as an argument for his complete and total heterosexuality or his lack of knowledge that it’s a gay info party, and even a straight guy would come back to ask his assumed-to-be-straight friend why he’s at the gay party (I have officially used that phrase too many times in this comment). He’s being human, and reacting in a completely normal, realistic way, so I just don’t get why that’s remarkable.

        But hey, you all have an in-joke that amuses you, so I’ll stop pissing on it, even though I don’t get it. Carry on.

          I never really got all the Dan hate either, to be honest. I know it’s because of events in ‘Roomies!’ – but even in those comics I never hated him. *Shrug* He seems like a very believable, normal character, and he does have a certain charm to him. He’s a bit dumb sometimes…. maybe that’s why it’s called ‘Dumbing of Age’. 😉

      “Danning” just sounds better. Sure, Joyce’s name is a monosyllable too, but here doesn’t end in that pleasingly hard consonant sound we ramp the -ing off of.

      2) Danny’s mistakes are often self sabatoging in an amusing way, Ethans mistakes are vastly frustrating so it’s more fun to mention Danny’s than Ethan’s
      3) It’s a running joke logic need not be strictly adhered to.

    So Ethan comes out to Danny and then Danny has to friend break up with him like he tried with Amber (because he can’t be around Ethan if Ethan;s an actual potential option even if he’s not a cheater this could all fall into emotional affair territory very quickly and Danny is extremely sexually attracted to Ethan) and Ethan thinks its out of homophobia until Danny comes out to him and then things just get more complicated?

      All a very real possibility I wouldn’t put past Willis. Hopefully we can avoid this situation if Dan can get over his flusteredness long enough to be his mature self and be honest about himself.

        Well, actually, that would be a mature response. Continuing to chill with someone you are extremely sexually attracted to while you’re dating someone else isn’t really all that mature. It would be different is, say, Ethan was attracted to Danny, and Danny didn’t return that attraction, but there’s clearly something there, and that makes hanging out on any regular basis while staying properly monogamous a big problem.

        You have a different-gender friend in third grade? They’re now your boy/girlfriend, according to your teasing parents. Toddler smiling at girls? “My son is such a flirt!”

        Only queer sexualities are codified as SEXUAL. Straight gets to be innocent and cheek-kissy and hands-holdy, but suggest that a child might be gay and APPARENTLY you’re assuming they’re having sex.

        I can remember doing similar things as a uni student. I’m asexual but didn’t know the word back then, so I was trying to figure myself out, and just knew that I wasn’t really attracted to people or interested in dating, and I would get super pissed off at people assuming I was. So every time someone made a perfectly innocent enquiry about whether I was interested in a specific person or other I would respond with some terrible knee-jerk response like “No – she’s a girl” or “No – he’s fat!” and then my brain would catch up with what my mouth just said, and I would be appalled at myself.

        So yeah, I can understand trying to figure out your sexuality and blurting out stupid shit when unexpectedly pressed, because you panic and your higher brain functions shut down for a few crucial moments.

    Poor Danny.

    If you look back at some of his appearances with Ethan, he’s shown to be pretty bummed out at Ethan having a girlfriend, and feeling that he should be sad for him when he broke up with Joyce. The idea that Danny’s crush could never be reciprocated was probably comforting to him.

    Plus, Danny aggressively enforcing heteronormative views in a crisis is well documented at this point, between feeling the need to “reassert his friggin’ heterosexuality” after his first hang-out with Ethan, and telling Joe that no really he totes wanted to bang Billie but decided she shouldn’t, and it wasn’t at all because he wasn’t ready.

He feels he’s cheating on Amber by thinking about Ethan (since he literally just realized it and he doesn’t know how to deal with it because it’s new and confusing) and with Billie he wasn’t ready to move on after Dorothy, so he had to invent a bullshit excuse to Joe that allowed him to retain his masculinity cred. “No see, it’s not that I didn’t want to have sex, because I am a guy and therefore always want to have sex, it’s that she might regret it even though she’s shown enthusiastic consent. I had to protect her from herself, you see. I am totally a real man in this case.”

    I assume Dina is watching this whole interaction from just off-panel, perhaps she’s retreated behind the door for better unobtrusive viewing. I wonder what’s going through her mind right now.

      He goes to a Questioning gathering that he feels safe and relaxed at.

      He runs into the guy he is crushing on, who he assumes is straight.

      Danny panics because now he can’t deal with his sexuality in a safe and relaxed environment and tries to flee.

      Hey wait, why is the guy he’s crushing on at a Questioning meeting? Ethan is totes straight because he had a girlfriend.

      So I don’t know where Danny is making mistakes, because his expectation that he’d be able to work through his confusion without outside drama has been shattered, and now he’s freaking the fuck out.

    When they say it’s a meeting for questioning individuals, I don’t think they meant you’re supposed to walk up to individuals and interrogate them as to why they’re there. That seems like something you’d want people to feel comfortable to volunteer.
