          So at the ICU identifying Blaine who is in critical condition and will be in a coma for the rest of his life, only know agonizing pain?

          As a few others have pointed out over the last week or so, Willis also recently said that he’d broken one of his “cardinal rules” of storytelling in an upcoming strip, hence the speculation about Mike potentially dying.

          Also, the “no-deaths” rule explicitly only ever applied to characters whose deaths would effectively bog down the rest of the comic’s lifespan in a mourning period, i.e. Joyce and somesuch – he actually used Tony as an example of someone to whom the rule need not necessarily apply (and if you had to ask yourself ‘who’s Tony?’…exactly). And as for Mike, he’s near-universally disliked in-universe; Amber and Ethan are his only two “friends” and they just tolerate him at best, Walky was speculating on the potential benefits of his hypothetical death in the strip I linked a couple of days ago, and just a few hours ago in-universe, Danny was telling Mike to “get lost forever.”

          So there is a possibility for there to have been one or more casualties during the night.

    I don’t know about Joyce x Joe, but Walky x pizza is an obvious ship and more functional than Walky x McNuggets, and less problematic than Walky x Nachitos. Nachitos only contain 1% of necessary nutrients and a lot of fibers, so they are a toxic relationship.

    I kind of like the idea of Joyce and Joe actually trying to be a couple. I don’t think it’d work in the end, but seeing Joe trying to not be his dad and be a better person and Joyce connecting with a guy she doesn’t have an idealistic picture of in her head might be really good for them!

      I feel like it has a lot of potential. I really liked them bonding over him being the only person she could turn to about her parents’ problems, since Dorothy and Walky’s parents are together, we don’t know dick-all about Sarah’s, and Becky’s mom died, so it’s not like she’d get it, either.

        Not initially. If anything, Joyce probably would have to disabuse Joe of the notion that sex would was a relationship breaker or something that you didn’t do with someone you cared about.

      They feel like people who, if they got together right now or even just…at all this year, simply don’t have the life experience and maturity required to make a relationship between the two of them work long-term.

      They have the solid basis there, of both valuing and respecting each other, genuinely enjoying each other as friends, connecting on a deeper level than they do with most people. Joe has the possibility of being able to genuinely help Joyce with her problems with sexual repression while Joyce has the potential to help Joe with his own problems of self-control and objectifying people.

      But either of them doing that for each other requires, um….maturity, and effort, and patience. And neither of them are really in a place in their lives where they could put in the genuine work to getting the best out of each other while working through the worst.

      It feels like they’re a pair that could a will-they-wont-they sort of thing for a long time, and end up drifting back together once they’ve grown more and gone through other relationships.

      God damnit, I could write this fic.

        Yeah, if Joe/Joyce are to be the endgame, I feel like it’d be later on in life. After they’ve worked all the kinks (literal and figurative) out of their system.

          I don’t even think they need to have their shit worked out. Sexual repression like Joyce’s isn’t something she’ll just get over in a few years or what have you. And Joe’s problems with his self-image and his dad and his bad habits with relationships are too deep for him to just get over it.

          It’s literally just maturity. A relationship with them would be ultimately rewarding and fulfilling, but VERY CHALLENGING. It will require a lot of work and communication. And man, they’re still kids? They literally don’t have the capacity for anything like that right now.

          Right now they are angry vulnerable kids who’s most pressing problems are just figuring out who they even are. They can’t balance figuring that out with a challenging relationship. It’s just not possible.

          They CAN however build a strong friendship, where they can take breaks for themselves and have it not be weird.

      I mean, we probably do. It’s going to be interesting, given Joe’s fears that people cannot change, and Joyce’s playing against her previously established nature. We also have their… complicated, to say the least, relationship. I mean, didn’t she watch the Joe/Roz tape? And his bailing when Joyce confronted him with things he said that suggested he still had feelings for her. That, plus the edited “zero” on his list and her suggesting it meant she had hurt him.

      Like, I dunno, it feels like there’s so much stuff here that could be coming to a boiling point.

      I concur. All the encounters Joyce has had with Joe follow the “Jewish romance” pattern in stories, similar to Empire Strikes Back. Instead of the “Catholic romance” pattern such as Romeo and Juliet, the former is about internal conflict coming between the two, themselves, and trying to dance around getting what they want without being misunderstood, rejected, or looking weak to the other.

    Little Caesar’s Pizza, really? Ok, the franchise has made a comeback and lasted longer in other markets, but in most states it’s now Papa John’s or Domino’s that do a lot of the college and apartment runs Thursdays through Sundays, while Pizza Hut is where most drivers go to die.

    Walky resting on Pizza boxes in EXACTLY the same pose….

    Now – Walky LOVES Pizza… And feel asleep resting on it.
