      As a kid these days (by most of your standards), I can indeed confirm that we’re all communicating via Telegram. And it is indeed not that one.

        Is being 24 being a “kid these days”? Cause I am and I’ve not heard of this.

          I’m a month away from turning 21, I’m pretty sure if be considered a kid in many circles, as would you. Most 15-25 year olds I’ve met are familiar with it. It was kind of the #1 way to communicate in hich school. Maybe it’s a regional thing idk.

        Ugh, my office makes us use WhatsApp, and I hate it bc it’s only ever used now for birthday spam AND I have to manually delete any gifs they send bc they automatically download to my phone

        For me, it was the opposite. Everyone in high school was on telegram, which is the only reason I started using it. I haven’tooked back since.

        At this point, the most dramatic plot twist at all would be if with all the chaos surrounding them, Sal and Danny just have a very normal, healthy, and happy relationship together. Let them be the Rigby and Eileen, please.

      Pretty sure he’s still wrong too. Kids these days don’t even text much anymore. They like snapchat or whatever the video call app is now. My nephew who is only 12 basically called me a grandpa when he saw me texting.

          You’re not actually far off. It’s not social media anymore, it’s mostly in-game chat and similar. Parents monitor TikTok etc, they don’t monitor Fortnite.

        Discord. It’s the only thing my niece will talk to me on. We had to make our own server.

          I dunno about kids, but I use Skype, Discord, and text, depending where I know the person from.

          I use text, Microsoft Teams, Messenger, TF2 chat, and Discord (rarely). I am An Old. 🙁

          I used to be with it, then they changed what “it” was!

        To be fair, some of that may have been HOW you were texting as much as that you were texting. Like if you were using words instead of stickers and emojis

        i was hoping this would look more conclusive, but ah, it does show an overall downward trend for the use of “text” as a verb and a, uh, complicated but very broadly speaking upward-y trend for “message” as a verb =)

        of course, i could download the data and massage it until it best supports my hypothesis. i’m just not committed to this enough. …or am i???

          Pulling your data from Twitter means you get an inherently biased sample. So since tweets are a text medium, it’s probably worse than that.

          It seems safe to say that, regardless of the app, kids these days are using their cell phones and not their watches or laptops. Rocks at the window is definitely old school.

          oh it’s biased for sure, and i make no claims for perfect representativity of general usage, also there’s no generational breakdown so all sorts of demographic effects could be affecting the data. i was just having fun playing at science =)

          that said, twitter is an interesting text corpus because it’s huge, used by millions, publicly available, and contains a lot of informal speech. so yeah it’s biased, but in very different ways than google books or newspaper archive databases.

          i don’t think that’s true? everyone has competent autocorrect now and there’s no character limit to text messages like there used to be in the aughts

    Danny’s biggest crime isn’t the hat, the vest, or the his little stringed instrument that I can’t remember how to spell.

    It’s wearing a *tie* in a casual setting, Why are you going against the comfy code there Danny? This is the largest violation I’ve seen since I’ve heard people talk about going to bed in jeans.

    Still have to admit that he’s *owning* the lok.

    And if you’re really into someone why wouldn’t you rather be with them in person, even for the short time it might take to set up a later meeting/date/rendezvous, instead of just sending an impersonal SMS?

    i’m guessing Danny hasn’t overheard the entirety of Sal’s eulogy to him. he would’ve realized her coming up to his door window is a big step.

      That’s the obvious complicating factor, going forwards: Danny is going to find it hard to believe someone so outwardly confident as Sal is actually very vulnerable and afraid of being hurt.

    They’re courting. Sal has so little experience in this having gone to a single sex boarding school. Danny is sexually experienced but I’m betting those relationships kinda happened to him. Especially the way the girls dumped him.

      I don’t think it was? Plus he snuck out a lot so she was probably getting social interaction with the locals.

      Someone being both open with her and not resenting her turtling up in the face of that openness is probably new ground, though, given how she acted towards Danny last chapter.

      I’m also not sure Danny’s relationships “just happened” since he was pretty forward with Amber before he settled on Amazi-Girl, and then went after her too. We don’t actually know why Dorothy and Danny started dating.
