      Yeah, they were a cute couple, but ever since Dina peeped Walky’s note-scribbles, I’ve held out hope for Walky/Dina as a backup ship, and I really don’t see Walky/Joyce happening in alternate Walkyverse as well.

        Of course Walky is going to get with Billie, obviously, so the moot is therefore moot.

      Still a subset of the nouns, so Joyce isn’t wrong. If we want to be specific, it’s an accusative pronoun.

        No, it’s something that stands *for* nouns (“pro” being Latin for “for”). Pronouns are grammatically different than nouns in English, retaining three cases to nouns’ two and preserving grammatical gender.

        So while pronouns serve the same function as nouns in a sentence, they’re not nouns — the rules governing them are too different.

        There’s a lot of truth in that. I did the breaking up with the fiend I dare not speak its name and still intensely missed her for a while. Heck, it took fully years before the random thoughts of “I wonder what she’s doing right now?” stopped. But don’t confuse nostalgia with regret. Sometimes doing the right thing is painful.

        Of course I didn’t break up with the fiend over pajama jeans.

    A little pvp works well to counter the ‘heartbreak of breakup’, or failing an exam, or getting hollered at, or just if you’re bored. On the other hand, maybe, it’s just fun.
    Joyce is like a friend of mine, tie her hands behind her back and she couldn’t talk.

          I was never a huge fan of DC’s Identity Crisis, but I always thought the opening scene where Elongated Man compares himself to Butter Pecan when explaining how he and Sue hooked up was genuinely “awwwww”-inducing.

    “Caramel boy” brings to mind those ads for that chocolate-scented body spray where the guy’s literally made of chocolate and people rip his arm off and stuff. Ie. the most horrifying ad ever.

    She /did/ break up with him, though, because she didn’t like his trousers. When you give someone an ultimatum and then walk out because they won’t give up something they love (even though they would be perfectly happily to have both you and it in their life), that’s definitely you breaking up with them rather than them breaking up with you. Is she deliberately misrepresenting the situation to Joyce, or is she trying to convince herself that it was out of her hands I wonder..?

      I think it’s more of a who had the final say thing. I don’t think Dorothy never really even intended it as an ultimatum. It was just her attempt to get Walky to stop wearing those pants which kind of backfired.

        Yeah, that’s basically it. She was basically telling him that he needs to clean up if they want their relationship to work and he decided to end the relationship because he didn’t want somebody trying to control him

          I have never understood the reasoning that certain types of fabric can’t be used for everyday outer-layer clothing, and I therefore have no sympathy for Dorothy.

          Actually, from Walky’s perspective, the pajama jeans were probably largely immaterial. He had a problem with being treated like a child by his cartoon-and-make-out buddy.

          Seriously. He put it quite well. He signed in for a set-up that didn’t require any commitment from him. The moment she started making demands he backed out. Wasn’t what he signed up for. Wasn’t what he wanted. Wasn’t something he was willing to be a part of.

    Poor Dorothy.. Looking back now at it that it wasn’t her call, that her request for him to not wear pyjama jeans in public wasn’t unreasonable. that he left her. rather than seeing she gave a literal ultimatum which he refused.

    I see her yelling “It wasn’t my fault I told him pyjama jeans are not to be worn in public and he left me!”

      You’ll have to be more specific. It’s on a rotation at the moment, with several possibilities possible at any pageload. Currently, I see Dotty, Walky, Joyce and Joe in a classroom setting.

    Umm… Dorothy you mean “yes”. Manipulative ultimatums about things that really don’t matter in the long run that result in you walking away first because your demands were not met, is by definition “Breaking up”.

    You just don’t want to be the guilty one, and you regret your decision. That doesn’t mean it isn’t what you did. Own up to it, fix it if you can, but don’t lie about it.

    … and I LIKE Dorothy.

    I’m not sure, but is it morally ok to hope for Dina/ Walky again? I mean, I don’t think them getting together will hurt anyone any more than Dorothy’s hatred for awesome things (pajama pants) has already done.

    Was it a breakup though? Things got heated sure, but nothing irreconcilable really took place. They just lost their tempers. OTOH these are teenagers, so every fight is an automatic breakup to them.

    Has college life finally gotton to Joyce? She’s getting really sarcastic lately.

      For some people, sarcasm is hard to grasp when you’re just not comfortable with people. Joyce has pretty solid friendships at this point and knows who she can joke with, how much and in what ways. I can be the same way. It would have taken me a few weeks with the group too before I’d feel comfortable enough to make those kinds of jokes with Billie or Dorothy. Though, reading the entire archive of Something Positive also tipped that scale for me my sophmore year :-).

    Is it just me or has Joyce seemed a bit too flippant the last few strips? For most characters it wouldn’t be a big deal, but it feels strange to have her be more concerned about boots than Sarah’s story.

    Of course Dorothy belongs to a higher class than Walky, so it’s expected that he should be thankful to her for being willing to teach him how to dress classy and stuff, let alone make out with him. Like doesn’t he understand that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to join the better classes?

    The trouble is just Walky doesn’t subscribe to the class system. That can be confusing to those who don’t understand that people can treat each other as equals.
