If Walky is anything like me, he’s fantastic at arithmetic (I can do big multiplications fairly easily), but trash at applied math like theorems.
I think it’s because arithmetic is mostly figuring out shortcuts to make processes faster, while applied math is pretty contextual and a lot of the way it’s taught is pretty… dry.
I think he’s fine with math you can glom onto in a quick flash of insight but gets in trouble when it gets abstract enough to require sustained effort.
I breezed through algebra, geometry, and trig, but hit a wall with calculus, so I can relate.
Wizard
Similar experience, although I think the way it was presented was a big problem, at least for me. I learned a lot more calculus in physics class than I did in calc class.
I went through uni (well, I say “went through”; one year and then I crashed and burned) with undiagnosed dyscalculia. So I pretty much followed how applied maths worked in theory, and then fell apart when I had to plug in actual numbers and add them up. Fun times.
See, that last line made my mind immediately go to Dinosaur Comics. And to me Walky seems like the kinda guy who would absolutely do the whole repeating assets thing.
That reminds me of that one picture of Sarah and Joyce doing laundry. Sarah’s sitting on one washing machine reading a book, Joyce is sitting on the one that’s running with a o.o expression.
That’s a favorite of mine. From personal experience: Lower your voice if you’re gonna ask a librarian if they have 57 Varieties of Ketchup. It must be pretty racy.
She denied Jennifer work because she had no pictures of her latest conceptual crush.
Blindness
Exactly. If she’s withholding jobs from her reporters because of her obsession with the local superheroes then she isn’t doing her jog and is harming the students who are paying to be there to learn how to be reporters…
He can do the art himself, like that time he doodled a T-Rex eating Jason (o no, my bowtie)

In a few years, someone will find that crumpled-up piece of notepaper in a teacher’s file somewhere, realize, “Oh shnikeys, this is a David Walkerton original!” and sell it on eBay for $40. From there, it makes its way into the Billy Ireland Comics Museum in Ohio, and is appraised for thousands of dollars.
Malaya could do the art, but I can’t see her cracking a joke.
Nono
Or a smile.
Rainhat
Seeing Walky writing and having Malaya deal with him would be fun though
Blindness
I think she might surprise people, especially if she gets an outlet for the stupidity around her…you don’t have to actually like your collaborators, just reach a mutual understanding about the product
I don’t know about the online versions, but they sure as hell don’t do the print versions that often. In fact, right now it is only once a week. I think it was was twice a week before the world was all covered in death.
No, all fortunate. Dina deserved someone who is OK with her quirkiness and near obsession with paleontology, Daisy is simply too quirky and obsessed even for the fun loving Becky.
Also Daisy might have been a little quick for Becky. Becky should get to go at her own pace, and something tells me that Daisy’s pace is “let’s have all the sex immediately, only because we can’t go back in time and have already had sex months ago”
Throw her at Grace, Mandy, and Sierra’s polycule and see what happens. Maybe there will be a violent reaction, or maybe she’ll stagger out 17 hours later with newfound clarity.
(That’s how chemistry works, right?)
Jhon
No, physics. You throw something at something else. The harder, the better.
Needfuldoer
So you’re saying we need a lesbian particle accelerator. We need to get CERN in on this!

well, at least his math is getting better
there’s an amount that I imagine his comic will look like this tho (but with more T. Rex)

This is the opposite of me–got an A in calculus but if someone asks me what 2 x 9 is I’ll probably use my fingers to count
Needfuldoer
Problems like this are pretty easy to mental-math if you can buffer a few values and break them down:
$11 x 6 = $66
$66 = $60 + $6
$60 x 5 = $300
$6 x 5 = $30
$300 + $30 = $330.
a/snow/mous/e
or $6*5=30, 11*30=330

I mean, probably not. That was basic arithmetic. College math is stuff like derivations and discrete math.
I fuckin’ hated discrete math.

Clif
I’m actually hoping that he dramatizes the adventurers of Night-Guy. Kind of like how Lamont Cranston did with his radio show.
Clif
Did for the Shadow with his radio show.
bcb
More T Rex? Does that mean Walky is secretly Ryan North?
Roborat
Not nearly tall enough.
He Who Abides
I’m actually impressed that he got that math right.
ValdVin
Same here.
ValdVin
…and per Willis’ twitter feed: Walky’s “poking at his phone specifically for this reason”, so I guess I missed that.
BBCC
Walky would make an excellent cartoonist I think!
And Merry Christmas to all those of y’all who are celebrating today.
Pablo360
Walky’s comic would probably be an even more juvenile, much less literate Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal (but with xkcd quantities of math jokes)
Jake'm
That sounds like my kinda comic strip!
BBCC
Right. Grav roulette.
BBCC
HA. Sweet.
Deanatay
Agreed! He already has the low salary expectations and the ability to live on ramen and hope down.
clif
Nachos and hope. But yeah.

Get help, Daisy.
Taigan
Get laid, Daisy.
JessWitt
Get Tinder, Daisy.
He Who Abides
Get up on the washing machine, Daisy.

Oh. So you know about the sweet spot.
ValdVin
Let’s just say I know how to find the little pickle ornament in the Christmas tree.

…I reluctantly agree. It’s not even a healthy obsession, it’s hurting others.
Clif
I lost track. Who was it damaging?
Jhon
Me. My sides are aching from laughter.

He’s gonna go to Joyce and she’s gonna supply the art, isn’t she?
Nono
Nah, it’ll be Mary.

then everything will be the same anime guy…unfortunately

Knowing Willis…yep. But I’d actually like Malaya to get the chance to do it, she’d actually do well in this IMHO

Keulen
Seems like Walky’s pretty good at drawing, if the random doodles he’s drawn in his math classes are any indication.
Keulen
Can’t forget when he drew Jason getting eaten by a T-rex as his notes, also in math class.
Azhrei Vep
I’d be worried he’s still too much like his Walkyverse self, inventing imaginary anatomy.
Needfuldoer
Weren’t those Sal’s notes?
BenRG
Nah, Joyce will do the scripts.

Maybe it includes a week’s worth of comics?

For the online editions?

Anyone else think it’s both fortunate and unfortunate Becky and Daisy did not meet before Dina locked that down?

No, all fortunate. Dina deserved someone who is OK with her quirkiness and near obsession with paleontology, Daisy is simply too quirky and obsessed even for the fun loving Becky.

Not really given Becky wants to save herself for her true love.
Taigan
Willis is gonna be channeling this next story arc, I see.
Clif
I put Walky on a faster track to becoming a pornlord though.
Clif
I mean, it will be a faster step to the Internet and that’s halfway there.
