      If Walky is anything like me, he’s fantastic at arithmetic (I can do big multiplications fairly easily), but trash at applied math like theorems.

      I think it’s because arithmetic is mostly figuring out shortcuts to make processes faster, while applied math is pretty contextual and a lot of the way it’s taught is pretty… dry.

        I think he’s fine with math you can glom onto in a quick flash of insight but gets in trouble when it gets abstract enough to require sustained effort.

        I breezed through algebra, geometry, and trig, but hit a wall with calculus, so I can relate.

          Similar experience, although I think the way it was presented was a big problem, at least for me. I learned a lot more calculus in physics class than I did in calc class.

        I went through uni (well, I say “went through”; one year and then I crashed and burned) with undiagnosed dyscalculia. So I pretty much followed how applied maths worked in theory, and then fell apart when I had to plug in actual numbers and add them up. Fun times.

        This is the opposite of me–got an A in calculus but if someone asks me what 2 x 9 is I’ll probably use my fingers to count

        Problems like this are pretty easy to mental-math if you can buffer a few values and break them down:

        $11 x 6 = $66
        $66 = $60 + $6
        $60 x 5 = $300
        $6 x 5 = $30
        $300 + $30 = $330.

      I fuckin’ hated discrete math.

          In a few years, someone will find that crumpled-up piece of notepaper in a teacher’s file somewhere, realize, “Oh shnikeys, this is a David Walkerton original!” and sell it on eBay for $40. From there, it makes its way into the Billy Ireland Comics Museum in Ohio, and is appraised for thousands of dollars.

      I don’t know about the online versions, but they sure as hell don’t do the print versions that often. In fact, right now it is only once a week. I think it was was twice a week before the world was all covered in death.

      No, all fortunate. Dina deserved someone who is OK with her quirkiness and near obsession with paleontology, Daisy is simply too quirky and obsessed even for the fun loving Becky.

          I’ve always been mildly annoyed with the “Baby Yoda” moniker myself, anyway (at least in part because certain family members kept getting confused by it and thinking that the Child was literally Yoda, but as a baby).

          I made this mistake in the past when I wasn’t aware Daisy was a student.

          She comes across or seems older than the usual cast. I’ve probably got it wrong but she appears to me to be in her mid 20s at least so maybe some arn’t thinking of her as a student (I’m not trying to pair her up with a teacher)

          We’ve had TAs with subordinate students and Robin attempting to be with teacher. Daisy comes across as a graduate student rather than undergrad. Not much of a leap to predict that as a possible plot point or relationship even if its not great moral lesso .

          Is anyone covering the beat on the troubling trend of men repeatedly harrassing women out alone at night on campus? Or why costumed vigilante students seem to be the only ones actively trying to stop it? If I were Jennifer that’s the angle I’d pitch. Maybe interview some of the girls. Hell she even knows a few that were targeted last semester! It happened just last night! It covers costumed vigilantes and might actually help the campus.

      You think? Get the student council to toss a couple of thousand more into the pot. Paying by the cartoon strip will work wonders. Require a couple of backup strips for when deadlines aren’t met.

        If it’s like the real-world version, the paper is independent of the university and certainly doesn’t have to rely on “the student council” for funding, which is fortunate.
        The student government at my alma mater recently made a play to get prior review of articles in the campus paper (also independent, I’m happy to say), because the fratority folks were upset by a headline.

        And that makes it sound like Willis’s lawyer’s. In the DOA universe Monkey Master was a successful animated series which probably means it was acquired at some point by Disney or some other front for the HA.

    Also 5 bucks a strip? I don’t like Walky but dude is getting ripped off. It’s a lot of work to make professional and quality comics and he’s doing all the writing, editing, drawing, and lettering. That’s before inking and coloring if he chooses. I guess the real payment is having a credit on his resume for a paid gig and a reference. But dude is better off self publishing on anyone of a thousand sites to gauge interest and setting up a patreon.

    Five bucks would get you a quick sketch on a piece of notebook paper!

      It’s a college newspaper strip, Daisy will be lucky if he erases the pencil after inking it with Sharpie. (Or gets something NOT drawn in Paint at 72 DPI with a mouse.)

    To play the role of Sirksome for a minute…

    So Walky follows Jennifer around all day, forces himself into her meeting with her boss, brings up his own superhero persona so that Jennifer is forced to waste more time hunting superheroes instead of anything that might involve real journalist work, and then he gets a gig instead of her.

    I think this is around the point that I’d start shouting if I was in her position. Being annoying is one thing, but messing with someone’s work is crossing a line – regardless of whether this is more Daisy’s fault than Walky’s.

      It’s a good thing Walky is universally loved or him being rewarded for acting extremely annoying and borderline disrespectful would be upsetting.

      All the very fine points you’ve made aside, dude’s getting paid in peanuts for this. Almost any amount of work he puts into this will be more than the gig is worth and he’ll basicallg be wasting his time. He couldn’t e ven buy lunch with this pay unless it’s off the dollar menu. He could barely afford a cup of coffee. Unless he gets insanely famous from this strip I think he actually lost here.

        Have to say though I’m enjoying how Jennifers going this arc, it’ll be interesting to see where it goes from here

      The first thing we saw in this meeting was Daisy asking Billie for more pictures of Amazi-Girl. AG is gone. Last we heard, everything except those submitted campus interest stories was full. If there’s no new hero, the most likely answer isn’t ‘You can do this instead’ it’s ‘well, guess we don’t need Billie then’. Walky bringing up a new hero IS newsworthy and it’s something Billie can cover, as opposed to her begging for something else that may not even exist.

      As for him getting a job, I didn’t see Billie offering to draw a new strip.
