Ooh, ooh, pick me! I’ll do it! I love these two, but I’m already weary of this interaction. I understand it’s a good break from the cop stuff, but the cop stuff is what I’m most interested in right now, so unless these two are gonna have a real conversation (which is highly unlikely, as Amber is bleeding out and barely functioning because of the meds, and Walky avoids serious conversations like the plague unless he HAS to have one), I’d much rather move on to other characters. Cute as they are.
Like Joyce and Dorothy! What are they up to? Did they hear back from Jennifer or are they still running around in circles?
Note that in my enthusiasm, I mistakenly said that Amber is on pain meds when she is very much NOT, which actually raises the chances of this conversation veering into “moving the plot along” territory pretty substantially.

Why do you say she is not? She could have brought them with her, crawled into bed, took as much as she thought safe, then sat up to ensure she stayed awake. She hasn’t been there long so they haven’t kicked in, but now they are hopefully beginning to work, and she is going into a stupor?

Plot, I can’t say, but it’s a “little” strip which reveals a lot between the two. Those are important, like watching a good movie scene where the actor not doing the speaking does some reaction.

Certainly I can’t recall another couple, regardless of my feelings about them, who’ve had nearly as many otherwise-content-free “look at the adorable cuties being adorbs!” strips in quick succession.
But also: I can’t recall another couple that even got a tenth of the “they’re so cute, I want nothing bad to happen to them and no recriminations for their perfectly ethical actions” either, so it’s kind of a mixed bag.
I understand that people are frustrated with the negativity we’ve had in the comments for so long, but damn the constant disingenuous takes on what people complain about are annoying.
Right? Even on strips where there’s no containment thread, grumbling, or misanthropy, the urge to continue pontificating on misrepresentations persists.

Honestly, Li was right — the real problem at this point is that a disproportionate number of the commenters remaining, regardless of their “side” on any given issue, are just here to be hostile to their perceived opponents and many of the folks who were interested in just talking are taking a break or gone.
I understand the urge (I have it myself), but there’s no good reason to bring up arguments on irrelevant strips. Don’t worry, those arguments will come back around again, I promise, but restarting them yourself just makes the social culture of the comment section worse.
She did tell Walky she was on meds when they were texting earlier, but I suppose she might have them with her. I’d think Walky might ask about that though. I’m just a bit surprised at the level of unconcern about Amber collapsing in pain.

I don’t feel like Walky doesn’t care, but he has no idea how to handle the situation. Also Amber asked him to finish the final lap for her, so she’s more concerned with mario kart than you’d think. Besides if Amber asked Walky to get more pain meds I don’t doubt that he would. She might already have taken all she can for right now, and can’t take any more for a while.

That’s why I find his actions in this strip kind of strange, that his only reaction to Amber’s pain is to grab her Switch. She didn’t ask him to finish her lap until the last panel; if she’d done that in the first panel, it would all make a lot more sense to me.

I’ll also note that if she’s not actively making pained noises, “collapsed from the pain” and “dazed from painkillers, trying to sleep it off” probably look pretty similar from where Walky’s standing.

But that is the point of the strip, Walky knows Amber good enough to know that -for her- finishing the race is more important than anything else, that’s why his reply is a simple “on it”, he was already doing what he knew she would want, that might not show the love between them, but for sure it shows how well they know each other.
