Dan means well. He’s really dumb at times, but he really does mean well. Being an idiot is not his fault. Maybe. Sort of. Willis, thoughts?
Sageress
It’s his parents’ fault, I feel.
Claire
I agree. He’s just naïve and nice.
Tunaro
With a spine like Jello, unfortunately.
Sageress
I still don’t see how he’s spineless.
Heavensrun
Yeah, I gotta agree with this. Danny may be a bit thick on some issues, and I would question his judgement on a few of his actions, but spineless isn’t a word I’d associate with him.
I think the spineless thing comes in with how he acted with Dorothy. Kid is happy to have no real plans of his own other than follow his romantic interest around like a lost puppy. I’m not sure that fits the definition of “spineless”, but that and his hopeless denial when Dotty tried to break up gently with him makes him seem like not a very strong person.
‘Course, how he acted with Amber showed he had some spine after all, misdirected though it was due to his inability to see through simple disguises.
Grimjac
I don’t get the spineless thing, either. He hasn’t done anything really wrong; he’s a barely-out-of-high-school kid who has no clue what he really wants to do with his life. I sincerely doubt most people in his age bracket are nearly as confident as they might wish to appear. Danny’s just not very good at putting up a front.
DragonStryk72
Leah, it isn’t really spineless. Danny didn’t have any plans coming out of high school, like a number of high schoolers, but was with a girlfriend who did have plans for college. Now, sure, he could’ve just stayed home and not worried about it, but then, he loved her and likely knew that if he didn’t go, he was definitely going to lose her.
Danny following her to college always felt more like he was trying to support her, while remaining close by. And really, it’s on Dorothy for not pointing out that she was leaving him BEFORE he made large scale, life altering choices. It was clear she’d had the plan to dump Danny to focus on college, but she made no attempt to tell him that at any of the moments prior. That IS spineless, because basically, because she couldn’t activate her spine, Danny ended up getting hurt worse than he would’ve otherwise, only now he’s stuck at a college he never intended to attend.
newllend
Wouldn’t say he’s an idoit , just really naive, and can’t realy see the avios rite in front of him
Bill
clarification, please, for “avios”.
Questionor
Maybe avios is a typo for obvious?
Jumpydoll
Google said it’s the name of an Air Miles business, so a typo would make more sense yeah.
Dranorter
Typo? Or awesome respelling?
Bill
I’ll accept “obvious”, especially when read in the context of the sentence.
-1 to newllend for the creative spelling.
DudeMyDadOwnsADealership
That line of logic is probably how Danny subconscionusly views (and rationalizes) himself and his love life. Digging for redeeming details in his past romances aside, his future with Amber may all come down to whether or not he can deal with Her and Amazigirl being the same person, and the more Watchmen than Marvel/DC reasons she dons the costume….
David
Did you mean to write “Willis’, though.” because that would make more sense?
Ikaru
I wouldn’t say hate. But I certainly don’t wish him on anyone. But….I am surprised to see him go after Amber. A little impressed too.
PureFedora
He really does care about her. He just has no idea how much. Sometimes I think his subconscious is a bit more aware than his conscious mind.

Mice are sharp! Ever been bitten by one? Unless they can’t bite when you get them wet… hmm…
Really?
He just ‘confirmed’ again that Sal is Amazi-Girl when he said “she doesn’t know you’re actually” and Sal didn’t deny it.
Sal just thinks it’s an incomplete sentence, or something like “my crush”, he knows he was going to say “Amazi-Girl”.
Dan thinks this is about him.
He didn’t see the cafeteria scene, he didn’t see Amber running down the hall upset. He saw Amber running away upset after seeing Sal.
If he catches up with Amber, how many ways can that conversation go?
If Amber says Sal robbed a store and traumatized her, Danny thinks that robbery is what made Sal change to the side of good as Amazi-Girl.
If Danny reveals who Sal is and Amber says she’s Amazi-Girl, Danny goes back to post-Freshman Family night and thinks Amber is lying because she is jealous.
If Amber and Danny reveal nothing, Danny thinks this is still about him.
Sure, Willis can write a good way for this to turn out too, but looking at reasonable possibilities, how is this not another Danning?
1.Dan was too Danny to realize that Amber is Amazigirl’s alterego.
2. He’s had this weird relationship with Amazigirl in which she hung out with him BUT wouldn’t reveal her secret identity to him.
3. Nevertheless, he’s trying to discover her ‘Clark Kent’ (as if Danny wouldn’t then reveal it to multiple people ….)
4. But WHY is he sooooooo OBSESSED with Amazigirl in the first place?
Ourorboros
Danny is interested in Amazi-Girl because his dream is to be Lois Lane. He said as much.
He didn’t want to know the ‘real’ identity. His full dream was to date Superheroine and regular girl, only to find out upon kissing that they were one and the same.
Of course he won’t date an ordinary girl either. He is actually working against his dream by approaching Sal.
That is, like many people he wants the surprise but also wants foreknowledge.
He probably just Danned up losing his DS, and I’ll bet dollars to doughnuts he’s about to go Super Dan and Dan the situation with Amer straight into the sun.
Not really, because he’s just put the ability to contact amazi-girl within reach of billie, who wants to find out her identity, at the same time amber is going to find out that she can contact her arch-nemesis, The World’s Worst Robber.
Which allows two different points of maximum melodrama to occur:
One, billie uses the DS to contact amazigirl and arrange a meeting, amazigirl leaps on and proceeds to beat the cartharsis out of billie without checking she’s the right person, billie ends up in hospital possibly forever or until he wants to bring the character back.
Two, amber contacts sal via the ds to arrange a meeting, sal and amber go to fight it out, billie has found out about it ahead of time and when amber is unmasked during the fight billie gets a photograph of amber in the amazigirl costume physically assaulting sal, amber is expelled, billie dies of schlerosis of the liver.

We all know this, Sal. But we love him anyways.

Love is a strong word

Hate is also a strong word.
Probably a more accurate one, too.

I think that’s Billie. And Ruth is the little chickenhawk.

Been shipping it since I first read the comic. Still do, just also ship Ruth/Billie

Is there hope?

A small chance; maybe a little bit above a snowball in Hell.

Don’t mention Snowballs to Amber. In her current state, anything that reminds her of Hostess products may cause her to snap.

I just hope she doesn’t see Ethan again today, for that very reason.

She’s gonna be a Mario Kart master pretty soon.

Why have I not discovered this sooner? I could make a fortune!
