      If you’re talking about current cults, I figure it will be just the same. After they’re gone there won’t be a single supporter or ex-supporter to be found anywhere. And almost as many that fought against it from the inside as there were in the French Resistance.

        The better example of cultlike behavior was the treatment of Japanese American citizens during WWII by the government and society at large, which many people still insist was perfectly fine rather than what it actually was, which was horrific and racist.

      Realtalk though it is a bit sad that both Billie and Ruth are so used to thinking so little of themselves (never forget that this relationship truly started with ‘we’re both poison. We can touch each other’ and Billie was the one saying it) that they seem to assume Decent Normal People knowing about their worst moments definitely means they’re totally rejected, by everyone, always. Ruth’s reputation in the hall still isn’t great because of her past RAing (and a nonzero amount of her present, to be frank,) but we’ve also seen people express actual concern for her, too. And Billie’s clearly a mess, but that doesn’t mean they might not want to know about her secret nerddom and such.

      Or, this being Forrest Quad, that they haven’t all decided that since she clearly needs Help and Love and Support, they will provide all of these things in spades! Their niceness hivemind is strong.

    I’m actually surprised, I would have expected them to just not acknowledge her. Maybe what’s-her-face talked to them and smoothed things out? I suppose they could just like her now without worshipping her, which would be a nice change of pace.

        Two Ls is British English and older American English. Modern American English uses one L. This only became dominant in the 1980s, apparently.
