        I don’t think there’s anything as explicit as Jennifer.

        She’s been messed up about this under both names. Probably worst at the start of the semester, maybe best right before the timeskip and with some reversion afterwards.

          This can be seen as just a less joking form of their usual animosity. If he’s angry at Dorothy, that’s a whole different thing.

          Not saying he should have told them off, but he acted like a deer in the headlights while Lucy was made to feel completely inadequate as a person, and there’s nothing wrong with Lucy deciding that’s something she won’t accept in a partner.

          I think the thing was that most of Linda’s behavior was directed at Walky.

          When Walky first saw his parents he was very clear to Lucy that she should run away. Later he explicitly told her that he really didn’t expect her to hang out with them.

          And then when Linda was badmouthing him at the game, her comments were directed at him (“you’re slumming it”), not at Lucy, and had the plausible excuse of his failing a class. It’s not like he could come out and say “be nicer to Lucy” because Linda would just say “you’re trying to distract from how you’re failing to live up to your potential”.

          Walky can’t make his mom act like a decent person, all he can do is give Lucy the choice to opt out, which he did.

          I think Walky could definitely have revved up into being committed to Lucy but the “I love you” thing killed any chance of that stone dead, it freaked him out way too much.

          yeah; he had JUST gotten over a messy breakup with Dorothy, and then couldn’t commit. And Lucy was moving way too fast for him, but he was too afraid to make that clear for her.

          I still think Dorothy and Walky hooking back up was the least healthy thing for both of them to do. Especially in Walky’s case; he has a lot of growing he needs to do before jumpin into bed with someone again lol

        I feel largely the same about Joyce and Dorothy, personally. They are both (currently) equally boring. That does seem like it will be changing for the two of them though, albeit very slowly.

      Yesterday on the patreon I asked what Joyce really expected Walky’s reaction here to be, and having had time to think about it I think I can hazard a guess at a real answer.

      Here we see Joyce occupying essentially the same frame of mind as Walky was seeming to a little while ago: that in spite of their often-vitriolic sniping at each other, they are fundamentally friends. Joyce is now fully-cognizant of the fact that a great deal of her bickering with Walky was in fact a sublimated competition for Dorothy’s attention and affection. Previously, Walky had come out on top, but now Joyce has won! (As she always should have, of course!) There shouldn’t be any bad blood about that, right? It’s just like when he got together with Dorothy and she started spending less time with Joyce, right? To Joyce, there’s nothing different about this as compared to their previous jockeying for Dorothy’s love, except that she’s won this time. No hard feelings, right?

      Except, no. No, there are hard feelings. Once again Joyce has run roughshod over another person’s relationship in order to get what she wants. She didn’t even let Dorothy break up with Walky – she ran in, grabbed her, and laughed in Walky’s face. And Walky is supposed to just be okay with that? What, because he made some jokes about how Joyce transparently wanted to much his girlfriend’s carpet? No! This is not the same as their previous bickering. Joyce has been an eager participant in doing Walky wrong and causing him real, genuine emotional harm. And while Walky had previously still been willing to call her a friend, maybe seeing her here, STILL gloating at him, has made him consider that, hey, no, this is bullshit, I don’t have to take this. Joyce still thinks they’re bickering buddies, but that’s not what this is anymore. She has fucked her relationship with Walky, her friend, and unless she pulls her head the hell out of her ass that damage is going to be irreparable. And in the bargain, now everyone in the friend group has to deal with how insufferable she is now. She has broken everything, as Walky says.

        My first impression when I was reading today’s strip was that honestly I expected a stronger reaction from Walky. He comes across more as annoyed than angry.

        But then I realized that Walky is kind of a Master of avoiding uncomfortable emotional confrontation, so actually processing his emotions into mild snark and sarcasm is pretty in line.

        And part of that I think has to do with the fact that he has very little confidence in himself, so even when someone is an asshole to him, he still thinks “yeah I deserved this”.

          This is actually why Joyce and Walky are so compatible as sibling-esque friends. They’re both avoidant to the point of detriment, but in different ways. I imagine that much like Joyce, Walky will only deal with his feelings when he has no other options left.

          Joyce called Walky family before, back when Becky first arrived, saying she would have to put up with him while hiding in Joyce’s dorm room.

          As for Walky, well his best, oldest, and possibly only friend for the longest time, is Jennifer, so if you go by the antagonism is that relationship, I think it’s a safe bet that Walky considers Joyce a friend.

          At the very least, he saw her as part of the friend group, and that includes Sarah who is probably the one who likes Walky the least in the group (she repeatedly thought about Joe’s feelings regarding the cheating and never once mentioned Walky, if we want to take that as a measurement of close she feels toward him).

          Side note: anyone remember how Joyce (and Sal, to a lesser extent, but let’s focus on Joyce) got righteous indignant with Walky over finding out he quickly got with Amber after being dumped by Dorothy (despite Joyce wanting to hook Walky up with Amber)?

          Do you think she’ll remember and/or that it will come up in the near future?

        You know I’ve been wondering why Joyce’s needling of Walky feels more “real” post-protest than their bickering in the past and I think this is exactly. Joyce has crossed a line and is too wrapped up in their real-fake-real competition to notice. I think the real Walky crashout isn’t gonna happen until Dorothy tries to “no hard feelings” him for her own sake.

Now given prior history with how much avoidance Dorothy showed with Danny in their breakup–Dorothy either will avoid Walky like the plague, or has so little respect for him that she’ll open with a joke and some gaslighting.           I’m more worried she’s going to do to Walky what she did to Danny back in the beginning the comic and pull a “I’m breaking up with you for your own good” because she has a habit of making unilateral decisions and framing it as a gift or stewardly duty to the other person’s well being. She has every right to end any relationship she wants at any time but she often pretends she is only doing it for the other person’s benefit when actually she wants something or is freaking out about something and can’t be honest with herself about that.

          It reminds me of something I told an ex when they were trying to frame breaking up with me as being for my benefit – do what’s right for you and I’ll never begrudge you for that, but don’t act like you’re doing me a favor.

          Does he keep Dorothy on the pedestal and put all the blame on Joyce or is he legitimately done with her as well?

        I don’t think Sal ever DISLIKED Walky, he was just living in (probably willing) denial of the reality of the worlds they lived in and their dynamics with their parents. But Walky has shown himself learning, understanding, and even standing up to their parents. And Walky seems to like Sal just fine, even if they are almost entirely-different people. At the very least they clearly love each other, and they’ve been steadily closer since starting college.

        I think that Sal and Walky have sibling cordiality, and shared experiences, but really only started getting a little closer when Walky told off their parents for how they treated Sal.

        I think people have more expectations of Sal than should apply here. I loved my older brother when he was alive but I didn’t give a shit about his love life. It wasn’t my business. Unless Joyce is a direct threat to Walky this whole thing is entirely his mess to engage with. If he wants Sal’s help he’ll ask for it.

          Yeah, part of being a good sibling is knowing when you’re needed. Sal is going to assume Walky can take care of himself here until and unless he asks her for support.

          Though it wouldn’t surprise me if she checks in with him sometime later today to ask how he’s doing.

        It’s more the golden child vs the scapegoat dynamic. The siblings are hopefully trying to heal from that now that they’re both aware of their parent’s toxic patterns. It’ll take time to break those habits and generational trauma.

        When Walky’s hair suddenly made him “hot”, Sal told the math group to not let him know, as he’d only recently started to become decent and knowing he’s “hot” would be too much power for him to control appropriately based on his lack of experience being so.

        Somewhat short answer: Sal thinks Walky is becoming a decent person and/or brother and does not want to hinder his growth towards that.

        I got the impression that the siblings had little contact during the years Sal was sent away to boarding school, but I don’t recall if blame for that was given. Walky seems to feel a great deal of guilt around that whole situation, but dunno how much agency he had to help or contact her. He’s been making gestures to try and be a better brother to her since they started college, though. Punching Asher, attempting to rebuke mom’s racism, etc.

        I still maintain that Sal hasn’t been properly filled in on the situation and she likes her brother, but she’s just not the type to get involved in this crap. Judge Dorothy internally and it might come out if Dorothy herself ever tries to directly get something out of her, but I really feel like Sal just wouldn’t be arsed in the situation. I’ve considered her one of the characters that it makes sense to not call them out, she’s the least in the know here and her relationship with Walky has changed a lot throughout the comic. She’ll defend him, but I don’t know if she’ll start fights for him.

I think if Becky or Joe were here she actually would feel guilty.

          They hang out together aside from shared classes.
          They’ve given each other advice on somewhat weighty subjects.
          They are friends.
          That said, if people can be friends and not like each other, I wouldn’t be surprised if they claimed that.
          Though that’s mostly Joyce; Walky’s best and oldest friend is Jennifer, so he might consider that kind of friendship as deep affection.

          I heavily dispute most of this. Sure they may consider themselves family but that’s different to me from friends. They don’t often elect to spend time together if ever. Just diving the archives and the times they’re together which is often, is in situations like this, they’re either going to the same place or with someone else in their shared friend group. Jennifer, Dorothy, Sal, ect.

          I know what the comic tries to present but I really disagree with the narrative you can treat people like shit and then say “we’re friends.” and that is acceptable. Becky has this problem with Dorothy, Mike had this problem, and Joyce and Walky do too. I consider their relationship closer to Sal and Malaya’s than being friends.

          My definition of friendship has always been whether or not I choose to spend time with you in places other than we met or are obligated to be around each other (otherwise we’re, at best, friendly, not friends).
          The argument can be made they met in college, as a whole, vs met at the dorm/class.
          But you can’t deny that their only obligatory time together is class, and they do choose to spend time around each other aside from that.

          I don’t have many friends, with 3 particular friends I made in college that I still consider my friends years later. But the number of 1 on 1 time I had with one of them could be counted on my fingers.
          But I reject the notion that he isn’t my friend because we didn’t often hang out outside of the group.

          And I do agree that family and friends are different. One of those friends I mentioned is my cousin, who I knew all my life and lived nearby, but I wouldn’t have said we became good friends until college.

          I do agree that I wouldn’t consider someone a friend who treated me poorly, but I then wouldn’t choose to be around them. But the characters do.

          Who do they not choose to be around outside of where they know them?
          Raidah who they don’t like, Asma who they don’t know the name of, Daisy who is a coworker, Agatha who is on their floor, etc.

          There are numerous people that the friend group know and see regularly who they make no effort to be around for various reasons – Walky knows the name of every guy and girl on the floor, able to introduce them to both Jason and Booster, and yet he hangs with the same group of people with no (onscreen) attempt to do so with others.

          Call it social inertia, but he calls it his friend group.

      It gets in my craw the way Joyce is talking about Dorothy in such an objectifying way — like she’s some prized treasure that Joyce won off of Walky, and not a person with any sort of romantic autonomy. I know this is the Big Romantic OTP Endgame Supership or whatever, but Joyce has a bad habit of dehumanizing Dorothy through pedestaling her and treating her like some kind of Glorious Untouchable Demigoddess at the drop of a hat, which is why I’ve always been leery of the two as a couple; it’s deeply unhealthy, and not in an elevated “drama hurricane” why like Jennifer’s relationships often are but in a terribly mundane, unpleasant to watch way.

      Romanticization is not the same as romance, and until Joyce knocks that shit off, Willis is never going to get me to buy in on this ship as Glorious Wedding Bells Endgame, end of.

      (And not to be a salty shipper on main, but I would like to point out that part of Joyce and Joe’s chemistry was that they did, in fact, see each other as people, and were far too familiar with each other’s flaws to romanticize the other. Well, Joe did a bit of romanticizing, but he’s also one of the ones who most consistently called Joyce out on her shit, and she very much called him out on his.)

        I have my doubts about the stability of their relationship. I think we’ve already seen a pretty big gap between Joyce and Dorothy with how they feel about cheating. Joyce feels entitled too it while Dorothy feels guilty.

        It kind of seems to me like Joyce consistently is encouraging Dorothy to not worry about being a good person because she is already perfect. But fundamentally I don’t think that is Dorothy’s style. She doesn’t work to be good because of insecurity, but because she is actually passionate and ambitious.

        She’s been through a lot of trauma and had her worldview shaken up, but I don’t think the result is that she gives up on trying to change the world. She might not become president but she sure as heck can still devote herself to making meaningful social change in other ways.

          Dorothy is a hot mess and deeply flawed. She has some messed up ways of interacting with the world and I totally understand people who call her garbage (because realistically, intentions be damned she has hurt a ton of people and been a bit… yeah. The scene at the Halloween Party still sticks out to me as a big yikes.)

          But she’s like, repentant about it. She tries to change, really does. Her character arc is clearly going to be a positive one, she’s not Bojack Horseman level of terrible or even close to it, but she’s like definitely a parallel line on the same graph (at this point in time). Just WAY better of a person at base.

          All that to say that I love Dorothy, even in this storyline I loathe, even when she does awful things. Because she’s good at being awful unintentionally, she doesn’t want to be awful. Joyce’s current arc is clearly her not caring about it, but Dorothy does and I’m excited to see where that goes.

          At the very least I am very happy the plot is finally visibly moving.

        Honestly I’m kind of wondering if Joyce and Dorothy are meant to be a long-term thing at all. It’s not sustainable without a lot of growth on Joyce’s part at least, and probably some on Dorothy’s as well. At the very least I expect there to be some rockiness between the two of them soon.

She’s eventually gonna have a mild outburst at Joyce for having the social conduct of a toddler hopped up on Kit Kats, and somehow, she’s gonna get painted as the bad one for it. Joyce will probably massively over-correct after that, and Dorothy can also get to have a crisis of confidence over whether she’s too controlling, when she really just has normal boundaries, and Joyce is just an unsocialized human hurricane.

        I think this ignores the reality that quite a lot of Joyce’s peers are accustomed to the routine of correcting her whacked-out views on social norms, on a day-to-day basis. They wouldn’t open this conversation in such a frank way with their average peer, because as you said, they have social skills; but, “Joyce has a revelation about something so obvious that we internalized it when we were nine, then gets the wrong idea about it due to a weird neurotic hang-up, and you just have to tell her the obvious until it sticks” is kind of a huge part of everybody’s established relationship with her.

          IMO and FWIW, my perception and recollection is that back when Joyce and Dorothy first and finally got together “for real”, the ratio was much more in the other direction: lots more readers reacting positively, while others expressed unhappiness with this or that aspect of how it was handled. However, as this storyline has dragged continued on (and on, and on) for weeks, and (per Throwatron’s recent comments) will likely, due to the pacing of updates, continue to do so for months of real time, that has changed. I expect it will continue to be thus until and unless the content to which people are reacting again changes significantly.

          I’m genuinely sorry and sympathetic that something which used to bring you pleasure apparently no longer does. I wish it had not come to this.

          miss enjoying the comment section! I miss feeling like there were a lot of different conversations happening and a lot of different debates happening. That isn’t really the case right now. There are really only negative conversations happening, with a fair number of very short positive comments like “this is so cute” that don’t really invite conversation.

          This isn’t the fault of the folks who are feeling so negative, but it is a bit funny to me when I see comments like Jay, complaining about being “contained”, as if the hater containment thread wasn’t far and away most of the discussion happening.

      I need to say this for my sanity’s sake.

      I have seen the comparison between how Walky and Joyce treated eachother in the past, with Walky ripping on Joyce for obviously having feelings for Dorothy, and that being seen as a reason for her treating him like she is doing now.

      Look at that situation for a while. We have a friend group, where one of the friends is pining for the partner of another person in that friend group. That in itself would lend itself to something being uncomfortable in that group. Now, Walky did not really handle it well, opting for sarcastic sniping when the mature thing would probably be to have a real talk about it. But I think that his sniping comes from that place of discomfort.

      And Joyce, once she and Dorothy forms a romantic relationship, going “I win” and literally laughing in his face shows that he was right to be uncomfortable towards that situation.

      I get it though, feelings are tricky, and relationships more so. The heart wants what it wants. But this also feels like Joyce is using that relationship to get back at Walky, which is a strange thing to do in a new relationship with someone one loves.

      Tl;dr – Joyce should just take the W and not rub it in Walky’s face.

      Though, if she did that, there would be less drama, and I do like me some drama.

          I think that is the part of the issue. Both Walky and Joyce are very immature people. Not in that they are childish, but in that they aren’t very good at handling emotions.

          Walky prefers to act like a goofy laid back person instead of facing issues. He avoids dealing with difficult stuff by either joking it away or escaping into games or tv-shows. He could have had a real conversation with Joyce or Dorothy about their attraction, but that would have been painful. So he went with jokey-but-not-really barbs about Joyce being attracted to Dorothy.

          Joyce is similiar, but also very different. She also avoids, or rather avoided, certain subjects, but not because they are painful or hard, but because acknowledging them would mean that her self image and world view could come crashing down, something it has come close to doing several times. Having a conversation, a real one, about her attraction to Dorothy would mean that she was bi or lesbian, something she obviously still has trouble admitting to herself.

          And to be fair, I get it. Both Walky and Joyce have experienced quite severe trauma, and during a pretty short period. I fully understand why they might not have the energy to deal with difficult issues in an adult manner.

          @Throwatron: but he didn’t just wait for them to realize, he constantly threw it in her face, along with her other hangups, and then called it “rehabilitating” (that line was fair but he should have actually tried, in that case). Even right after her near-date-rape trauma, which Sal had to interrupt. Maybe Joyce started it first with the degrading comments about Walky, I can’t recall.

          When he did joke at Dorothy about it I think her response was something along the lines of “yeah, we get it already, give it a rest”

          @FacelessDeviant: When I saw Joyce laughing like that I read it as an intentionally over-the-top cartoon villain laugh. Sure, she probably didn’t nail the delivery (when does she ever) but given that she and Walky were cartoon watching buddies (only buddies in that one sense of course) and she and he were in a banter relationship (however much they actually felt threatened by each other), I don’t think it was mean-spirited so much as not knowing where the line is. And it’s worth asking whether Walky ever knew where the line was either.

          Not only did they go through recent-term traumas, they both went through childhoods that were extremely unsupportive to social-emotional growth, especially to neurodivergent kids like them. So I don’t begrudge them not knowing where social lines are or how to establish them, not knowing how to handle emotions, not being able to read social cues, etc. I also don’t begrudge them snapping at each other when they’re upset, like Walky is doing now.

Gays, like Becky, are inspirational heroes for going through oppression and persecution to be true to themselves. She’s gay so she must be the same. But, unlike Becky, she didn’t really face any opposition, even her dad accepted it, so she doesn’t really deserve that status, which means she’s not really worthy of being gay.

      I mean, she comes from a background that fundamentally dehumanizes women into brood slaves, and calls it the pinnacle of romantic love. Her idea of what loving a person is, is deeply problematic, at a foundational level. Since she’s been dating men up until now, she’s had no need to unpack this, because she’s only applied it to herself. But now, she’s going to start applying it to Dorothy, who…isn’t as bad, but people have pointed out, does have tendencies of relentlessly “improving” her partner, as well.

      But, I say zero chance Dorothy goes more than a month or two (in comic time) without making it clear to Joyce, that treating her this way leads to her feeling stifled.

And for some reason, the line “You’re just a bunch of straights and Jennifer!” is absolutely hilarious. It’s like she respects that Jennifer doesn’t identify as gay or bi, but she can’t possibly call her straight.

      1. Dorothy has been a neurotic mess ever since Blaine destroyed her plan of escape when he and Ross kidnapped her, Joyce, and half the characters of this strip.
      2. She LOATHES Joe and Joyce promised him a talk about their relationship but hasn’t seen him since the beginning of yesterday, so there’s no doubt this little oversight will come back to haunt all three characters.
      3. Joyce has been so obnoxious to everyone, ESPECIALLY Walky, that she risks alienating herself from all her friends. Sarah in particular, who has always had her back in the past (albiet begrudgingly) can’t stand her right now, and let’s not even talk about poor Becky and Dina…

      In summation- Joyce probably has her First Dance Wedding Song as “Wind Beneath My Wings,” while Walky, Sarah, and the others are requesting she and Dorothy dance to Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance.” (Or “Judas.”)

    One one hand I can appreciate the experience of feeling like “I shouldn’t claim that Identity, that would be appropriative”. There is a mindset difference between thinking “them” to thinking “us”.

    But a big part of it is recognizing that Queerness is not defined by “being the same as all other queer people”. So yeah, Joyce might look at people like Becky and think “I haven’t gone through what people like Becky have gone through. My experience wasn’t like hers. I don’t relate to my sexuality like she does” but fundamentally there is no quintessential queer experiences because there is no single, limited way of being queer.

    Given that IIRC Willis was going to initially have Joyce and Dorothy kiss and then conclude they couldn’t be together for now, I’m wondering if this is going to end up an extended version of this where the relationship ends up torpedoed in the short term before rebuilding into something healthier later on.

    I’m not basing this off anything in particular; the preview panels we’ve seen seem to imply that the two are still a couple well into next year if I recall but I also seem to recall that Willis isn’t above editing a panel to avoid spoilers. Also, Joyce is being super unpleasant about this whole thing and so I can assume the intended implication is that Joyce isn’t handling this in a healthy fashion.

    But eh. We’ll see.

        Everybody has seen this side of Joyce; it’s just, they initially saw it through the lens of her fundamentalist Christianity, and so, they blamed fundamentalist Christianity; then, they saw it through the lens of her atheism, chalked it up to “well, she’s recovering from being a fundie, this is normal,” and so they blamed fundamentalist Christianity.

        Now that she’s doing it with Being Queer (But Totally Not Gay!), it’s becoming rapidly obvious to them, that maybe some of this is just Joyce, and they should have been blaming Joyce more, all along. It would have been mean to blame her for it with the other stuff, because they were viewing Joyce as a victim; but, like Joyce has been reasoning, her queerness has not yet caused her to be victimized in any way.

        So, for the first time, she’s going to be held accountable for the way she has always acted with everything and everybody, because this is the first time she’s not in the position of “victim,” and that’s naturally going to confuse her, because her only frame of reference for queerness, is that queers are perpetual victims. Just like how fundamentalist Christians, portray themselves as perpetual victims.

        It’s the only axiom along which Joyce has ever been taught to understand her own personal narrative, but the more she changes herself, the less it fits, and the less everybody around her is willing to tolerate it. Actually accepting responsibility and blame for any aspect of herself, is completely new to her, in a social sense.

    I never really liked that Walky ran right back to Dorothy within minutes of being dumped by Lucy, or that he stuck with Dorothy when she described the relationship as something that has no consequences. Joyce literally yoinking Dotty away from Walky, declaring that she “won,” and laughing in his face about it, THEN reiterating that she won Dotty and had sex with her is the very definition of “sore winner.” Much as I hate to admit it, I’d be pissed at Joyce too and reject her “peace offering,” which is just a humble-brag in disguise.

    Also, kudos on Lucy to finally tell Joyce that she’s bi. Too bad it’s fallen on deaf ears as Joyce has basically become the worst version of herself and believes everyone that calls her out on it is just jealous that they lost (Walky) or homophobic (Asma.) But of course, Joyce being Joyce, she’s not REALLY gay if she only had sex with one woman… but she’s proud to be not “straight,” and she pretends “bisexual” doesn’t exist… so what is she?

    Is there anyone can stop this raging lust-monster that Dorothy unleashed? At this point I don’t think Dotty herself would be able to put this fire out.

      I confess that I always got the feeling that Walky never truly loved Lucy, not in the way he loved Dorothy and Amber. (She definitely loved Walky though, I should clarify!) Lucy was good for him, he was comfortable with her, but he didn’t LOVE her. If they had gotten together, I feel it would have been one of those relationships where “we learn to love each other”. That kind of relationship can work, but it also runs the risk of fatigue or burnout in the long run because Walky would always feel like there’s “something missing”, and on Lucy’s side, she’ll eventually realize that Walky’s feelings for her are not as strong as hers for him, which can lead to disappointment or bitterness.

        I think Lucy/Walky was probably doomed by their religious differences (and how Walky felt about that,) but he can still be bummed at the missed opportunity. He definitely put Lucy on a bit of a pedestal, even if he wasn’t ready for love conversations.

      Walky didn’t run right back to Dorothy. Dorothy went to him and he put her off until she practically had a breakdown in front of him. Nor did Dorothy describe their relationship as something that had no consequences. That comment was referring to editing the Dexter & Monkey Master wiki, and Walky took it to also refer to their relationship. But there’s no evidence that was Dorothy’s intention.

        It was never Dorothy’s intention to make it sound like Walky was just someone she could enjoy with no consequences to her life. Walky’s inference of that stemmed from Dorothy putting off Yale, her own emotional well being, and the like. I **THINK** the reason Walky read Dorothy’s statement like that is because he himself uses video games as a consequence free escape.

        So (and this is his own self esteem doing some DIABOLICAL WORK) he inferred Dorothy just sees him as a video game. A way to kill time. A plug’n’play controller if you will.

Joyce can’t talk to her lifelong friend (who is spiraling), her relationship with Sarah is pretty severely strained, her relationship with Walky is pretty severely strained, and all of her friends are watching her bad behavior in a somewhat new light. And we haven’t even gotten to science class yet.

        Can’t speak for everyone but to the least a shift in their friendship dynamic

        Like I could imagine some of her friends such as Walky potentially being uncomfortable spending time around Joyce and Dot during otherwise shared activities such as lunch and by proxy forcing a temporary friend split.

        Her relationship with Sarah has already been strained because of all this but as people have pointed out, the majority of their friendgroup seem to mostly be brushing this off as if it was inevitable which imo, also comes with the secondary read that they either don’t care or never had a high view of Joyce and Dot in the first place where they just don’t see them resorting to cheating as anything to be surprised by.

        I think some people want to see Joyce properly internalize that was she did was to the very least mean to Joe and Walky even though it benefitted her personally as much as it did but imo it’s still early and the actual schoolweek just started so she has plenty time to actually see the effect this has all had on both Walky and Joe. Before this she was largely just with Dot so obviously she was just going to spend their time enjoying their new romance.

        Anyhow I think for right now we’re at a nice pace, Sarah distanced herself from the group, Walky verbalized how he feels about it all and Dot is dealing with some of the more abstract consiquences of everything by proxy of her class literally studying the photo of this moment and being confronted with the idea that she might have pulled eyes away from the actual goals of the protest with her actions.

        Basically what’s happening on strip rn exactly, I just wanted it to happen way sooner. I really wanted a Billie being a good friend moment too, but it was somewhat undercut. I consider Walky crashing out to be all the consequences I needed, because he needs to crash out or he’ll never get to 1v1 Incelerator again and knock him tf out. I have a whole diagram.

        Dorothy I want to get called out by Sal, and I want Walky to really get angry with her. I want her to find out about the poly thing and try to tell Walky it’s cool and that they can be together too after all, only for him to immediately shut that crap down, deliver a “Reason You Suck” speech, and then angrily storm off. Maybe go patch things up with Amber, maybe go start trouble somewhere else. Dude needs ACTUAL friends.

        I want Joe and Sarah to get together. I want Joyce to check on Becky. I kinda want Jacob to call Joyce out or start some crap exactly because it’s hypocritical and it would be nice to see him be a bit of an ass. Especially since Lucy is still in with Raidah. Maybe see Raidah pressure Lucy to leave the friend group because she’s hanging with “immoral” people.

        Basically, I want drama.

    Honestly I only learned about bi-erasure about a year or so ago but it is pretty basic, in the LGBTQ community the B part gets pulled both ways. Since a Bi person in a monogamous relationship can pass as either straight or gay depending on their partner homophobic people try to claim them as stories of “gay being a choice” and the gay community either demands they be in a relationship with someone of the same sex OR have multiple partners so their place on the spectrum is visible to all. And yes, both of those things disgust me.

        Oh, yes, definitely. It’s getting better, slowly, but back in the 80s and 90s, when bisexuality was a lot less understood, especially in communities like Joyce’s, you often had this sequence:

        Sheltered person goes to college. Sheltered person discovers sexual attraction to their own sex. Sheltered person, who’s only ever been told about homosexuality, comes to accept that they are gay/lesbian (note: in those days, you never called a woman ‘gay’, that was for homosexual men, only; the slurs were also gender-specific for the most part).
        SP then goes through a tortuous coming-out process. During this time, they find a campus group for gays and lesbians, and join, getting tons of emotional support and maybe even some relationships. They fully join into the gay or lesbian community, participating in marches, and engaging in lots of group support, where folks talk about their innermost feelings and difficulties.
        And then they fall for someone of the opposite sex. Whoopsie! Turns out they were bi, all along.
        And for a lot of those people who gave them support and love and so forth, it feels like a form of betrayal. Remember, at this point, they were also dealing with the “It’s just a phase” brand of homophobia, and SP seems to be proof of that. Not because they were ever trying to do so, but because they didn’t understand themselves well enough, and lacked the vocabulary to actually explain it to others.
        Like I said, it’s not as bad as it once was, but it’s still a scenario a lot of folks have to deal with.
        “Bisexuals are all cheaters” is the flipside of this, by the way, since a faithfully monogamous bisexual is invisible to anyone who hasn’t known them through multiple relationships. So the most obvious bisexuals are either cheaters or poly, and given how many folks can’t tell the difference between those two states… yeah.

Complaining that she’ll leave them “for a guy” or cheat on them or never really be happy with a woman because “bi women always end up with guys”. They post these little uwu videos about how they stop hitting on a bisexual woman if she’s also talking to guys because “they just know they aren’t going to ‘win’ so what’s the point”.
