    If you ever want to get a bunch of dirty looks, put a bottle of soda in a brown paper bag and just take swigs of it as you walk down a street in America.

Now it may be of a shape which could be put to other uses, but it seems clear that it was purchased for purposes of consumption.

    Anyone else notice a subtle detail… in the background there is a dart board with the logo of the Ottawa Senators. Fits in with her Canadian/Hockey fan background, and if she’s a Leafs fan, throwing darts at a Senators logo is pretty much what you’d expect.

        No; there’s a Sens-Leafs rivalry. As someone elsewhere has commented a Habs board might be more likely for a Leafs fan but personally, I think it works and is a nice little background detail.

      The sympathies of dart players are terribly ambiguous.

        Pictures usually have her wearing a tonne of Leafs stuff, so odds are this is a rivalry deal. Honestly though (and as a Sens fan), I think it’s a beautiful touch.

    I love that since she’s a Leafs fan she has a Sens dart board! I’m not a huge fan of the NHL but Being Canadian I love the little details!

    I really like how panel 2 communicates Ruth’s pain and disgust; the way she stares at the bottle with fear, yet clearly intends to drink it, is a very powerful image that resonates a lot with me. This is helped a lot by panel 1, which shows that she’s thinking a lot about what’s in her bag.
