        Listen, whether the school supports this or not, the police have already shown they have enough corruption in thos prescient to go out for some payback after so many of them got beat up. Look at the mark on the officer’s cheek in the first panel. These guys know Amber O’Malley is PROBABLY Amazi-Girl even if Blaine wouldn’t confirm it before he “suicided”. Sarah is going to have words with her boyfriend about the cops coming into her room, and if the Dean really is the bad guy her scholarship could be revoked. BUT HEY, maybe Carla’s parents will take their money out of this war and put it towards their daughter’s peers.

          Evil or not, I’m not sure what’s supposed to be going on here. Are we supposed to accept at face value that they don’t have a warrant and they’re just here for revenge?

          But why? That makes no sense. If they’ve got a reason to come here looking for AG to get revenge, there isn’t a judge in the country that wouldn’t give them a warrant. And then they could beat her up for resisting arrest. There’s no reason to be operating without the cover of law here.

          I mean there’s plenty of RL cops who do stupid stuff because of lack of patience or disrespect for procedure. The endless amounts of lack of read rights, turned off bodycams, warrantless actions, and lying about warrants proves so.

          Sure, but most of that is either spur of the moment or when they’re really trying to get away with something.

          Rather than a big planned operation that they could easily get a warrant for. Unless they can’t for some reason I don’t see yet.

          Would they be able to get a warrant without a suspect, though? That would require a warrant or warrants to search every residence in the wing, including many people who aren’t suspected of any crime. I won’t say that it wouldn’t happen. I’m not well versed enough in law enforcement procedures. But i think it’s pretty reasonable to think that the cops might skip a warrant if they don’t think they can get one. So they are going to make a show of force in common areas and attempt to menace a bunch of women into voluntarily allowing a search of their rooms. And if one of those women happens to unknowingly be AG’s roommate, so much the better.

          Granted, we don’t know whether she would have brawled with them due to some other offense if the first one hadn’t happened, and Dorothy running back into the protest BECAUSE of unrequited love for Joyce might require a bit of reading between the lines and your mileage might vary, but I’m going to call it a causal connection. Because doing so lets me be silly.

          I went back and checked. To expand on that:

          Arguably, the near arrest happened because she’d stopped just outside, looking after her friend who had just run back in. That’s not justified, but it’s also not quite just a promising target – lots of other people still walking out and no sign they were all be grabbed.
          And honestly, the cop was right. She was gonna run back in after Dorothy regardless.

          Once AG started brawling with cops, she did rescue others, but that was the inciting incident and it’s not clear if she would have jumped in otherwise.

          If it wouldn’t have been cheating, would Dorothy have been anguished enough about her perceived unrequited feelings for Joyce? I think very possibly, from my experience of falling for a “straight” girl (and also an actually straight girl). But the yearning was definitely increased by seeing Joyce with someone else.

      I can’t relate to either argument, but I’m glad they’ve got something to sink their teeth into now.

          Maybe Chloe knew, as a full-time staff member and employee of the school, but they probably wouldn’t tell the student employees (Asma, the RAs, etc).

          To legally collect evidence from a dorm room, they absolutely need a warrant (or permission to enter from a resident of that room, or exigent circumstances to enter). The university, like a landlord or a hotel, can give cops permission to search common areas, but not your room.

          Of course for this to matter, A: you have to know that, and B: you have to convince the judge to believe you over the cops.

          Thing is, if they’ve got enough evidence to decide to go search Amber’s room, they’ve got enough evidence to get a warrant. It’s not like any judge is going to refuse a warrant to apprehend the vigilante who assaulted multiple cops.

        In a sense, but not in this sense. The police themselves can be viewed as a criminal organization, but in this context we know that some are on the take from the mob. That’s rarer than it used to be, from what I know.

      in this case while they’re being bad cops they do have a valid legal justification for chasing down Amazi-Girl because she was expressly punching and beating up cops during the protest. Should they have been riot controling the protest? No. But the case still stands that Amber did actually do something illegal enough that they can justify a warrant to go after her. Hence why they are expressly seeking her instead of just targeting random people at the protest

    So I’m assuming this means the cops are actually looking for Amazi-Girl’s costume, which makes me wonder how they came to suspect she might be in this particular residence hall. I forget how many other students know that Amber is Amazi-Girl, but I thought it was just some of her friends, who wouldn’t be likely to rat her out to the cops. I hope she doesn’t get caught or hurt more than she already is.

    Y’know this is why Antifa goes for plain black outfits, a lot harder to identify than the bright yellow, monogramed superhero suit that probably also cost a lot of money to make (another reason you go for cheap, easily disposable piece of clothes). I’m honestly surprised Amber never got caught before, though I’ve always thought the Amazi-girl stuff was some of the most tonally inconsistent parts of the comic.

        Does it really? For me it always clashed with the more grounded reality of the comic, like how the Amber/Amazi-girl split is sometimes played as legitimate mental illness and other times is basically just Two-Face comic book mental illness. It just feels like a bad holdover from Shortpacked, putting it into the real world setting makes it feel less like superhero stuff and more like uncomfortable vigilante justice.

          It doesn’t work for all the readers tonally obviously, but it’s established that within universe, the superhero logic works. People don’t recognize Amber. Blaine getting a costume made him both more of a threat and unrecognizable. They’re capable of unrealistic feats. Costumes work. In multiple ways.

    If they have a warrant, they don’t have to show it to you right away if you ask about it. If they think there’s a risk to public safety or a risk that evidence might be destroyed, they can delay confirming the existence of a warrant.

    Additionally, those same excuses can be used to let them conduct a search without waiting for a warrant to be signed. All they had to do was claim waiting for a warrant would give someone time to destroy evidence or declare Amazigirl a threat to public saftey.

    Beyond that, kind of surprised something like this hasn’t happened sooner. But I guess they’re taking it personally now that she’s directly attacked the police.

        Because, assuming what one person said above is correct, they’d have to get hundreds upon hundreds of warrants for every dorm room. I kind of thought they’d only need to get the one warrant for the whole building though, and that warrant would be given to Puddinghead not Ruth.

          It’s possible. I’m not at all clear on what the law is for searching dorms en masse. If they’re just going to break down doors and search all the rooms without warrants that they actually need, they’re going to be in a lot of trouble.

          There are people on this floor who can bring significant resources to bear – most notably Carla’s parents.

          Even if they needed only one warrant and that would go to Chloe (or someone higher up), you’d think they’d need someone on the scene to show they had the correct legal permissions.

        Playing devil’s advocate here.

        Theres zero reason why they would not have a warrant. Everything that the cops did followed the letter of the law.
        When the campus changed its bylaws the protesters became trespassers. They gave advanced notice of when the meadow would be cleared, prepared to clear it in plain sight, and used nonlethal force to do so.
        The sniper, and the excess of force used, can be attributed to rumors that some of the protesters were armed and dangerous.
        Amazi-Girl’s presence and physical assault of police officers in the course of their duty retroactively justifies any argument about how real said rumors were: they were assaulted by a masked resistence; therefore, it was prudent to be prepared.

        Amazi-Girl has been reported on often. It is clear that she is a student, and likely a resident of this hall. If felony assault charges are leveled – which I’m sure they would be – theres not a judge on earth who wouldn’t sign a warrant to search. And showing up *without* a warrant is beyond stupid. It means that you literally cannot use any of that information in the future.

        But no, this is DoA, so they have have to be evil corrupt cops at every level, and be breaking the rules even now, instead of just using the full power of the system in a corrupt way.

          Snipers at protests are generally justified as “in case of attacks on the gathering, like any other mass event”, not for worries about the protesters being armed and dangerous. You can argue whether that’s true or not, but snipers do tend to be used at a lot of mass events, whether the cops want to intimidate the crowd or not. Obviously they do serve the purpose of intimidation at protests.

          And yeah, things got real serious legally when AG attacked cops, however justified we think it was.

(Possible) Fun Fact: the shorter brown hair cop wears a load strap for a left-handed rig. most of the others are right-handed because they’re gesturing and communicating with the left hands. Training says don’t tie up the weapons hand.

      If they know Amber is AG, they’ve got her dead to rights. They can take her openly and legally and also beat her up for resisting arrest.
      If they don’t, why are they here? Grabbing some random college kid and torturing them until they confess doesn’t get them anything.
