        It’s a weird day when Dotty is the weaker partner between Walky and Dorothy. Walky’s only starting to figure his life out, and Dorothy is watching hers fall apart and hiding it from everyone.

        It could work, in the future when these two figure get some help.

        Based on my memories of that age, getting back together with an ex for a fling helped get through stuff. Sometimes you need a comfort blanket of a person for some fun.

      I share the sentiment, but the fact that they are talking calmly is also gratifying to see, but dreaming is free.

      Hmmm, I agree they were great. I’m not sure they need to both boomerang back together though. They need to have some character growth first. Getting together with the first girl available got Walky into that mess with the unsuitable and unstable Lucy after all.

        That’s right, it’s good to see that despite everything they can continue talking naturally, but it’s obvious that it’s too soon, just look at the second panel, Walky is emphasizing that and Dorothy knows that what she did was wrong, I just hope that Despite everything, they can have a great interaction.

        Getting together with the first girl available is NOT how Walky got into a mess with an unsuitable Lucy. You seem to be totally forgetting Amber who might technically be the first girl available, but Walky getting together with Lucy was with Dorothy’s prompting. Walky, left to himself, would have stayed an oblivious friend of Lucy’s forever.

        Taking a screwdriver and trying to fix the lives of people you care about is not without risks Particularly if you are going to a lot of trouble to not admit to yourself what you yourself want.

      You want what they used to be but getting them back together wont bring that back. Dorothy isnt who she was when they fjrst dated and neither is walky. Dorothy wants him now because it was simpler then. Also she really needs to get laid.

        Even well after breaking up they’ve had more chemistry than many of the actual couples. Breaking up was their big dumb decision.

        I want what they could be now. I want the messy get-back-together, I want Dorothy being allowed to be imperfect and have fun, I want Walky getting to be a rock for her now and then because he’s learned he owes his partners that kind of support.

        I want them to get back together now, it’s my dream. 😛

        I think that’s very reductive for Dorothy. They’re not the same people now of course and maybe it wouldn’t work, but she’s not just yearning for the simplicity of the past or just needing to get laid.

        They broke up because having a boyfriend was a distraction from her goals and because she thought that putting them first wasn’t fair to him. She’s always wanted him back and there’ve been signs of that all along, she just denied herself because she saw it as self-sabotage.
        Reducing that to just wanting to get back to simpler times or getting laid is a complete misread.
        I like this arc a lot because their original breakup always felt like it lacked any payoff in terms of character growth for her, but now it looks like a long game.

      Or at least enthusiastically supported than those like me who want Walky and Amber back together.
      There’s also the group of “I want Dorothy and Walky back together…just not right now for (insert reason)”.
      It’s definitely more popular than the WalkyxLucy shippers.

      I think they might be able to make it work now, with Dorothy’s priorities in a very different place now than they were the last time around, but I think Dorothy still needs time to mourn… basically the entire life she’d spent years telling herself she was working towards, before she’s ready to try again with Walky.

      (I more actively just sincerely hope Walky and Lucy don’t get back together because I just really don’t have much interest in their storyline)

      probably not. The walls, glasses/cups, and lights are all different. unrelated, the lamp moves a little in panel 4 today, but is back in it’s original position in panel 5. I bet they’re being eavesdropped on. or its haunted.

        If Suet didn’t mean selfish, I mean it. Dorothy has never had a problem doing the thing that served her purposes, she has always had a problem with recognizing that’s what she was doing. She thinks she’s doing things for other people.

        She wants someone to think she can solve their problems for them. Whether or not Walky and Lucy get back together isn’t for her to decide or orchestrate. If it’s something that Walky and Lucy decide to try, then it’s up to them to do it. Dorothy’s not the “team mom”.

          I do think Dorothy genuinely want to be helpful and make things better for others, the issue being that she made that part of her entire sense of self, so she doesn’t really know what to do with herself when she is struggling so much mentally that isn’t trying to help, wherever or not she knows how to effectively do that at the moment.

          Agreed.
          IMO, Dorothy defines herself entirely by her present or future utility to others, and very much needs to figure out who she is if/when she isn’t either solving someone’s problems, or working to put herself in a position to solve more people’s problems. I have a terrible suspicion that if you were somehow able to compel an answer from her, ala magic lasso or similar, it would be “no one/nothing.”

          I like that analysis. I agree, Dorothy doesn’t think she’s good/worthwhile unless she’s useful.

          Her kind of being helpful to others is to decide to make their decisions for them. It’s how she likes to see herself, as knowing what’s best for other people, even better than they know themselves, every time.

          She often doesn’t ask if someone needs help, or what she can do to help. She makes someone her project to manage. It’s not the worst character flaw, but its not great, especially for people who overestimate her competence. And it’s lead to a dynamic between her and Joyce, and her and Walky, that they’re having trouble breaking.

          Or perhaps she cares about Walky and wants him to be happy, and if she can’t be The One so be it. Only, when she tries to think in this space, she has terrible ideas.

    At least she seems to be de-stressed enough to be more self-aware about her intentions. Honestly, I hope Walky tells her he needs to work it out himself because he really does. He seems thoughtful enough at the moment to see how having Dotty involved in more “shenanigans” might be bad in this case.

      One wants to block it, the other doesn’t want to *do* it. There’s kind of a paucity of actually people and public good parties in the US. And Canada isn’t too far behind.

        Not an American, but i can’t help wondering sometimes if it’s all intentional: the Democrats can draft bills to do good things the government don’t actually want to pay for, and the Republicans helpfully block it so they don’t have to go through with it, and the Republicans blame the Democrats for the problems they themselves are ensuring continue (and are sometimes adding to), confident that their voters will never doublecheck (other than, of course, those who prefer the poor unhelped)…
        …and, due to the people believing the Republican claims, along with the flawed US electoral system, the Democrats don’t need to actually be good; they merely need to appear less evil than their opponents. And so both parties remain in a stable system of their own design.

        But maybe I’m being too cynical? Then again, I’m not sure it makes a difference whether the results are intentional or if it just worked out that way.

          To be intentional, it’d need to be a conspiracy with way too many members. No, it’s an outcome of the Founders being in total denial about parties.

          Well, Washington apparently was opposed to political parties, and is quoted as saying “However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.”

          I really only came back to say, though, that conspiracy theory or not, it wasn’t meant as one of those “both sides” things. Even if the Democrats aren’t good, per se, they at least seem less bad in practice. Maybe America can work toward a better way somehow, but that can be done while simultaneously voting blue as long as there are no better options.

          The Founding Fathers were all generally opposed to political parties, but they then created a system that inevitably led to their rise. Most of them split off into factions within the first few election cycles – because it works.

          Very much this.

          A lot of the bad effects could be mitigated with instant runoff preferential voting so that you wouldn’t be “wasting your vote” by voting first for what you actually prefer, but it would weaken the existing dominant political parties and so it will never actually happen.

          Some of the bad effects. I honestly doubt it would have much effect really.
          It would mitigate the spoiler effects, which would be good, but it wouldn’t lead to an overthrow of the basic two party system.
          Major parties might have to shift positions a little more to accommodate more voters?

          Thing is: the model that you offer here is, from the outside, indistinguishable from both sides being sincere. So the only thing to do is “try stuff until something works, and then you’ll know which was true.”

          Thanks for the Washington quote, BTW. I’ve been aware of his position in a general way for years, but it’s good to have the full thought before me.

          This model also has the disadvantage of assuming the group that is really just blatantly obviously evil is really no worse than the other side, so if the model isn’t correct, things get really bad.

      Lucy is obnoxious and controlling, that whole situation happened in a church that she dragged Walky to, when he’s fundamentally a rational person who should have said no to her attempt to convert him. She wants to control him. She wants a pet boyfriend. She’s angry because he didn’t immediately tell her he loved her, when they’re ultimately fundamentally incompatible. It’s honestly better that they didn’t have sex, she’d have used that against him too.
      Walky should take Dorothy up on her earlier offer, they should go bang now.

          And I say that as someone who knows they’d probably find Lucy kind of grating IRL. I’d also know it wasn’t because she’s some sort of evil person, just that I find “trying too hard” to be particularly irritating. (I try not to make this other people’s problem, since giving people guff for trying too hard isn’t helpful.)

        I think, like Bella in Twilight, she is manipulative, but not consciously. Being ruled by emotions and image can lead to narcissism though. So I see why she’s so triggering.
        But she seems to care about people too. She frets about niceness on surface level because to her, people’s actions belie their truth, not as though surface level is all that matters. So, that is a sign she is not narcistic. If I knew her irl, I could set a simple boundary, nothing that would truly hurt me, but something I have the right to set a boundary for, to see if she respects it. And I hope she would, she seems nice and easy to hang around.
        But she’s a fictional character, so no empirical tests for us! We shall see if she is on her way to becoming a dark-triad bad boss-girl, or a cheery if bland and flawed individual, or something else.

          Also, that has to be the worst cartoon I’ve ever seen. When I was working in a nightclub one of the other staff people insisted on putting it on the TV when it was slow. All I remember was screaming and horrible animation with lots of strobe effects. Oh, and I think one character was supposed to be a militant vegetarian or something.
          The cartoons of my childhood weren’t all great, some were objectively bad, but that’s a whole different level of awful.

          That’s certainly…a thing to say on someone’s memorial post.
          I mean most db fans are willing to admit that Z and onwards aren’t great, especially compared to other shounen but it was still incredibly influential and important to a lot of people. And the original Dragon Ball journey to the west parody/retelling with a twist was nothing short of an incredible story and comedy(par some things that aged poorly, bc 80s) with great fight choreography. Both invented new tropes and methods within the genre.

          Above all, I know I’m not gonna change your mind on this and I don’t particularly want to. Just. Come on man. You don’t go to a memorial and rant about how much you hated the deceased’s art. This is disrespectful to the grieving.

          I’ve always had the same sort of weird mixed feelings towards Akira Toriyama that I’ve had towards, say, Jim Davis (of “Garfield” fame). I don’t actually like their comics all that much, and I REALLY don’t like how they influenced their respective genres. And yet…they were DEDICATED to their work, were INCREDIBLY good at making money and reaching a wide audience with it, and influenced SO MANY later works that I can’t exactly deny that many of my favorite series today wouldn’t exist without them. Also, by all accounts, both extremely nice people! So, yeah, I’ll mourn the death of a legend along with everybody else. RIP Toriyama Sensei.

          Not to harp on a point too much but see, if you have to bring up your more negative feelings about a creators work in a time of grieving (the dead aren’t above reproach afterall) THIS is how you do it. Not “oh well rip to that guy but damn he made some GARBAGE, like the worst shit ive ever seen.” I can tell you were trying to be respectful and as a fan (and major critic of DBZ and DBS don’t get me wrong) I appreciate it.

        I mean we literally know she is, though not for this reason. She’s said she didn’t feel like she could be honest. She’s been afraid she’d be diagnosed with something that would pretty much end any chance she has of a career in politics.

        And even when the thing you’re holding back isn’t directly related to what you want therapy for, not being able to trust your therapist and having to constantly watch your words is not conductive to productive sessions.

    Agreed that they’ve changed, but they keep bringing out the best in each other. Walky existing gives Dorothy permission to calm down. Notice how Walky usually did his best for Lucy when in sight of Dorothy. (Remember how he didn’t get off the floor with Amber until Dorothy pointed out that he should. He had an excuse for why that was an otherwise good idea, but I still find the timing suspect.) Wally having someone who encoruages him to do his best and Dorothy having someone who givers her outlets for slowing down is GOOD for them. It doesn’t have to be a serious relationship. But them touching base with each other would be a really good thing for bother of them. And they can fuck. They really need to fuck.

    (At this rate, I’m predicting that Lucy gets them together. Lol)

    While I’m glad to see that they can continue talking, that doesn’t mean things are settled.

    Dorothy continues with the insistence of putting together
    to Walky and Lucy again, however the boy has already shown that he has progressed, slowly, but he has and that is one of the things that Dorothy must understand…she will not always have the answers or solutions to help others .

    But I also remember her nightmare, besides Joyce, other people were there and among the dialogues, they say that Dorothy always has a solution for everything, because of that detail I have the feeling that she must have made a mistake before everything.

    And precisely because of this detail, I continue to insist that we have to know a little more about Dorothy’s past.

      I think at least part of it started with the incidents with Ryan, both times something terrible almost happened to two people she was close to, and she was right there and she couldn’t do a single thing about it. And of course there is the kidnapping, that as much as she did there I bet she constantly fell she could had done more, as unfair that is to herself.

      Her “end” doesn’t really exist, because contrary to what Walky and many others are assuming, I don’t think this is just a “phase” where Dorothy mopes around for a while, and then suddenly returns to normal! When Raidah kicked her dreams, it triggered a cascade of real, genuine, EPIPHANIES for Dorothy – the type that can cause PERMANENT changes in a person.

      Dorothy is kind of a mess now, and she will continue to be kind of a mess in various ways. She’s being selfish, crass, and inconsiderate, and will continue to be selfish, crass, and inconsiderate to lots of different people in lots of different situations. And she will never have the same confidence in her presidential career path that she had before, ever again. BUT, as evidenced here, she’ll continue to want to help people. She’ll continue to want to solve big problems for other people, and default to highly formal and methodical solutions. She’ll continue to be overprepared for many situations, and prone to excessive spreadsheeting and scheduling. Those things can all co-exist! And that’s totally OK. This isn’t some sort of temporary Anti-Dorothy we’re seeing, it’s just New Dorothy, and personally, I think she’s a pretty decent gal.
