        Seeing that strip reminded me how much Dina’s facial expressions have changed since she started seeing Becky. That strip was funny in part because she never used to smile – her facial expression was almost always neutral. But now we’re seeing genuine smiles all over the place. It’s nice to see her happy.

        It did seem to have a few time paradoxes in it. What with the evil hat being erased from existence, which would have nullified the movie’s plot, thus preventing the good future for Goob, which still would have meant the hat would have been made, and while I get the need to move on, still felt like a bit of a let down that he didn’t see his mother, maybe she could care for him, but wanted to reconnect, but then couldn’t, and all kinds of sad, and I’m just not sure how well this comment was thought through.

    I call shenanigans. Those hats are the same size, and the dinosaur teeth stick out from the top, there’s no way she can wear two at the same time without it being noticed by her girlfriend who’s been ogling her head all day.

    My theory is they both took off their respective articles of clothing at the same time, and by the time Becky had taken off her jersey Dina had already put her back up hat on.

    Becky’s romantic shenanigans aside, I want it noted that DINA volunteers and opinion about what is “cute” in the last panel. I don’t think she is at all adverse to Becky wearing her hat. Not adverse at all…

      Totally and the best part is that, yeah, yeah, she did. We know she snuck forbidden glimpses of sitcoms that she got in trouble for and that those are the only examples of romance outside the cloying women as property arrangement sold by her dad.

      So, yeah, she totally did learn it from bad sitcoms and now she has to unlearn it.

      I vote that Batman dressed as Dina would mostly be funny, because Batman is comedy gold, but also it’d be especially funny if the bat ears on his costume don’t flatten, because then Dina’s hat (or Tricera-Top™ hood) wouldn’t sit on his head properly and it’d just be covering the bat ears. Dina dressed as Batman would be cute, just ’cause it’s Dina, and I can’t really imagine the last one but hybrids of people are almost always creepy so I’m not sure I want to. Anyway, I’ve probably put too much thought into this already…

I just imagine if they had a kid that basically took everything they did and believed and mixed and matched to create their own thing. For example, a rich female crime fighter in a dinosaur themed Batman costume with the Batman’s eyes from BAS and Dina’s smile who solves crimes and beats up criminals while spouting obscure dinosaur facts Her name would be Dinobat and her light in the sky would look like a dinosaur skull will bat wings.

    Becky, no.

    Cause, yeah, no, trying to trick a romantic partner into doing something sexy for you is not cool and I’m glad that she completely flubbered her attempt to lesbian hijinks around actually asking for what she wants.

    Cause, yes, she needs to do that. She’s been great on consent since the kiss, but she’s still lingering with cultural and sitcom narratives about how you can’t just state desires out right but have to just trip in to them accidentally and if she’s going to be the best version of herself she can be she’ll have to unlearn that and that’s not gonna be easy, but it’s necessary.

    And for that, I’m so glad her gf is Dina because Dina doesn’t really do subtext. She doesn’t really understand subtext and in fact can become agitated about it. So, she’s gonna make Becky actually use her words and ask her to take off the hat as an act of intimacy and that’s a good thing for both of them.

    And it’s also a good growth for Becky because asking for intimacy, especially sexy intimacy can’t be easy for her, what with the repression she was raised with and her history of badness. But it’s important that she learn how to ask for something like that. Ask and view herself as worthy of receiving that intimacy, not as something snatched by naivety about fetish, but as something freely given and appreciated.

    Cause I like them being the good boundaries couple and I’d like to see that continue.

      I’m torn.

      On the one hand, the results of hijinks so far have been adorable and I kinda want more, but on the other, Dina having a spare hat on her makes me think it could be really bad if said hijinks were to succeed.

      Becky is such a great partner that it is sometimes easy to forget where she comes from and how completely unprepared she is for being in a relationship.

      Not only has she not learnt how to ask for intimacy (or that she should). She has had every reason to believe that any step she would take in that direction would result in her father coming after her with a gun.

      Luckily, Dina has no clue either. Just as you say, the will both have to learn a proper way of communicating.

      I’m glad that we are allowed to explore this with the silly metaphor of Dina’s head, because this entire fiasco could just as easily have been about Dina’s boobs, which would have been decidedly uncomfortable to watch.

      This way we can laugh, we can smile, we can think and we can learn.

      As can Becky, as can Dina.

    Becky almost got what she desired…almost. Dina’s way too prepared. This whole exchange is way too cute. I really like how they are slowly feeling their way into a relationship and not just going straight to intimacy. Getting to know one another and figuring each other out is what makes a real relationship and I love how they are just taking it slow. Of course both of them are innocent in their own way and neither know anything about any of this so they are figuring it out as they go which is so awesome! Kind of reminds me of my wife and I as we dated and we are still together after 18 years.
