Seeing that strip reminded me how much Dina’s facial expressions have changed since she started seeing Becky. That strip was funny in part because she never used to smile – her facial expression was almost always neutral. But now we’re seeing genuine smiles all over the place. It’s nice to see her happy.
This description reminds me of many ancient toothy fish who’s mouths look like they would have benefited from far more teeth, but they had but a few massive teeth instead.
I read that as removal at first and was concerned.
Orion Fury
I get that, since we’ve been talking about taking off, or removing, the hat. I had started with that word first, and tried to come up with some way to make a word, then decided to work at it from the other way.
It did seem to have a few time paradoxes in it. What with the evil hat being erased from existence, which would have nullified the movie’s plot, thus preventing the good future for Goob, which still would have meant the hat would have been made, and while I get the need to move on, still felt like a bit of a let down that he didn’t see his mother, maybe she could care for him, but wanted to reconnect, but then couldn’t, and all kinds of sad, and I’m just not sure how well this comment was thought through.

Timey wimey, wibbly wobbly get out of jail free card.

well who WOULDN’T carry a spare!!
essential AND cute!!!
AnvilPro
Dina has no teeth, just one enormous tooth that sound somehow passes through
Plasma Mongoose
It’s baleen which allows her to filter the krill.
Orion Fury
Oh look, krill!
SgtWadeyWilson
Would you like a root beer float?
Orion Fury
I’m more a lemonade punch kind of guy.
Clif
I’d krill for a root beer lemonade punch.
Or something like that.
Joe Archer
So that’s why she eats cereals – the baleen is for cereals, not for krill.
John
On the contrary, Dina has more teeth than any human being should have.
Plasma Mongoose
Dina is an Osmond?
Roborat
Or a Jager. She does have a nize hat, after all.
Severing
Hmmm, is a verra nize hat, but most Jager’s aren’t good at tryink de sottil, which is one of her specialties (along with being adorable).

An Osmond?
I know the TV Tropes Wiki has a trope about them and teeth, but I’ve never heard of them.

Dunkleosteus?
Disloyal Subject
Technically speaking, I’m pretty sure Dunkleosteus’ sharp plates of bone aren’t actually considered teeth.
Random832
Why exactly? What is a tooth?
foamy
Not bone, for starters.
Mr. Mendo
Oh, Becky. I hope you get the idea to just ASK Dina before this goes all Wile E. Coyote!
ObiKemnebi
Clearly, you have not read the comic at all up to this point 😛
Clif
I know, right?
Doctor_Who
Becky should invite Dina to a baseball game. People take their hats off during the anthem.
Orion Fury
I’m waiting for Becky to hear about what Carla did to Mary, then Becky asking Carla for help. I’ll call it Project S.A.U.R.S.
ety

S=Sombrero, so Sudden And Urgent Removal of Sombrero?
Orion Fury
Only south of the border.
Sparda
On mobile, can’t read the hovertext ):
Benet
To the right of the “latest” button is an invisible button that will make the hovertext appear.
Disloyal Subject
That’s for the comic’s alt-text, not hovertext in comments.
Amazi-Stool
“Sudden And Urgent Reveal of Scalp”
Because hovertext is not restrained to images – it can be present on “abbr”-tags, too (as is here on SAURS).
Orion Fury
Gracias.
Kernanator
Everyone who predicted she had a second hat under the hat was almost correct.

Good ol’ Jameson gambit

Or any luchador worth their salt.

DINA LIVES OFF OF HATS
SHE CARRIES AS MANY SPARES AS NECESSARY TO SURVIVE
PedantryBot
Augh just ask! Come on Becky, use your words!
Orion Fury
Now where’s the fun in that? I bet Willis can, or rather has, come up with at least three more jokes on this.
Doctor_Who
Oh god, it reproduced.
So, anyone here see Meet the Robinsons? That scene in the Bad Future where everyone in the world is wearing mind-controlling bowler hats?
This is how it starts.
Woobie
Swing and a miss! is what I thought.
Dina here reminds me of Airplane! when Robert Stack whips off his glasses, revealing other glasses behind them.
Gwen
Or when Roxxxy Andrews whips off a wig and there’s another wig underneath
Sporky
Actually it starts when a kid loses at baseball… or something. Actually, the plot of that movie was pretty convoluted.
Orion Fury

Sarah-2
Was that really a trade though?
Orion Fury
Well she did say ‘your hat’, and not ‘the hat you’re currently wearing’. The rules of the agreement were met.
MatthewTheLucky
Yes, since she was wearing both. Where else could she be keeping it?
Emperor Norton II
This is Dina we are talking about. She can keep things hidden anywhere.
Either that, or they brought a bag where the blanket and book (and also the spare hat) was in, and Willis forgot to draw the bag.
Cattleprod
You know what else is cute? Wearing a whole bunch of hats at once. Every single hat in this general vicinity. I’ll go first.
Cholma
Isn’t there a Dr Seuss story about that?
Ramona
The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins.

A majestic, towering pillar of hats!

i can see dina always having a spare of her current hat in case one gets stained.
Orion Fury
You never know when a bucket of paint will fall on you.
Leorale
If television is to be believed, paint is stored atop doors.
Orion Fury
I thought that was buckets of water.
Leorale
Depends how mean your prankster friends are.
Orion Fury
True. Oil based?
Leorale
Sure, I’ll yes-and it!
Plasma Mongoose
It’s not a spare, it’s offspring.
Orion Fury
Dear gods, it’s reproducing…
inqntrol
At least they look cuter than headcrabs.
Deviant
Perhaps a spore?
Mr. Random
She’s not wrong.

“okay, now trade ya the hat for my shirt”

Am I the only one getting echoes of Tarquin’s “NOPE!” mask?

I swear I will make a D&D villain do that someday.
