          In the 80’s ratata was often an onomatopoeia for a machine gun. For some reason it’s making me specifically remember a tommy gun.

          I was sorely SORELY tempted to claim it was the sound that twerking made (but also of breasts slapping together), and we simply didn’t have a word for twerking yet. Oh the eighties were a brutal time, with us facing such a deficiency of sound words.

          ‘Tatas’ are boobs, but a pretty crass word for them. ‘Ratata’ is either an moment of accidental autocorrect brilliance, or just a geeky/fun way of referring to boobs that doesn’t sound as crass.

        I think you’re right because you can see Robin has actually let go of Leslie’s shoulder, which to me says Leslie got her fingers with that fwap.

        Its a brushing motion I think. When I try that, that is how my hand ends up. Not entirely sure about the sound effect but maybe its material related?

          Except her thumb is on her left and her lifeline (palm) is showing. It’s a very awkward way to hold ones right hand on the left side of the body. (reaching across the torso normally has the palm roll down then in.) The more I look, the more it seems like Leslie high-fived either Robin’s invisible hand or her right breast. Of course we also see Robin’s fingers letting go, so Willis is doing something intentional here but I’m really lost. And I’m cold and there are wolves after me.

          The way she’s holding her hand is a completely natural brush-off position.

        Yeah, that’s what threw me. That’s her right hand, and swatting Robin off her shoulder would naturally make it land palm down, thumb toward her neck. This looks like she used the back of her hand, which is a lot more difficult.

        If she was brushing Robin’s hand off her shoulder, I’d expect we’d see the side of her hand, thumb up (toward the camera).

          If you brush up off the shoulder your hand ends up as you suggest, which was my first thought and why I was confused.

          If you brush across from the neck out, you end up much like she does.

          My memory is bad when it comes to this comic and its multitude of happenings.

    So, the real question here is just what kind of “mistakes” are about to be made. One the one extreme, there’s Becky deciding that a liiittle bit of premarital hanky-panky is okay (not really a mistake from my perspective, but y’know). On the other extreme, there’s Becky pulling a Steven Universe Future and proposing to Dina right now so that they don’t have to wait as long. I’m hoping that it’s the former, since it’d be a major step in her character development while the latter would be a backslide.

    Your guess as to what lies in the middle is as good as mine, although it almost certainly involves dinosaurs in some way, shape or form.

        Heh… I really feel uncomfortable with the “just fuck already” attitude. As stated last strip, Dina might be asexual. That doesn’t mean necessarily she *won’t* have sex, but Becky and Dina need to have good communication first and Becky needs to get over the fact that it isnt as important to Dina.

        I say this as a sex neutral ace. My boyfriend knows, I just don’t super care about sex but can still enjoy it. But if Dina is ace (and pan romantic, homoromantic, what have you) Becky needs to *talk* to her about this stuff.

          Becky definitely knows Dina is down to fuck because Dina put the offer out there for when Becky was ready. She’s worried about Dina lacking attraction, not willingness. Which…is still something they need to talk about.

          or like at the wedding itself? The video and the song stand somewhat in opposition too, as the song is about a woman setting boundaries and the video about a guy dragged into a shotgun wedding (literally) and the bride is *very* pregnant.

        Look at the picture. Leslie’s hand has fwapped down on where Robin’s fingers were, but Robin’s fingers have mischievously retreated while neither has changed expression in the slightest.

          But Leslie’s hand must’ve made contact with Robin’s or where’s the fwap coming from?

          The only way I can parse it, is, Leslie’s brought up her hand, fingers bunched up behind her thumb, and then released all her fingers against Robin’s fingertips, in the “flicking water in your face” gesture, hence, “fwap!” and her hand ending up the way it does with the palm facing off to her side.

    What is Leslie’s hand doing? It looks like she’s going for a high five with Robin but she’s leaving her hanging. Or would be if the sound effect wasn’t there.

    She’s not smacking Robin’s hand off her shoulder – look at the thumb. It’s pointing towards Robin. If she was smacking her hand, her thumb would be pointing at the ceiling. Just try it.

    If Leslie was trying to smack Robin’s hand off her shoulder, she is using the back of her hand – or at least trying to. Her wrist is being hellaciously torqued. I don’t know about you, but can barely hit my shoulder with the back of my hand like that. It’s mostly the side of my hand above my thumb.

    People, I’m sure she smacked the hand off her shoulder.
    Yes, it looks a little confusing, but you can’t show the smack without showing the result of the smack, hence why Robin’s hand has moved.
    And “fwap!” is definitely a smack sound. That plus the red lines that indicate sudden violent movement firmly place it in that camp for me.
    Of course, I maybe (definitelyj over analyzing things, but I feel like a high five with a thrice cloth covered breast would have a softer sound effect and color lines that implied less violent and sudden movement.

    I wonder what Leslie thinks of Robin’s politics. She had the chance of switching parties and becoming a progressive Democrat in Congress (with Becky telling her all she needed to do) but dropped it for a Centrist Democrat.

    … okay, I read the part about living being a mistake you make together, and now I’m just remembering the Lesbian Suicide Pact and wondering, again, what exactly happened to put an end to it.

      I think Ruth’s hospitalization and subsequent gradual climb out of the abyss put an end to the mutual death spiral part of their relationship. The actual breakup happened during the skip and hasn’t been revealed yet, but I think that seed was sown when Billiefer tried giving Ruth the cold shoulder and drove her to drink one more time.

        Maybe, but that “seed” led to Jennifer apparently making real progress – stopping drinking and going to therapy. Narrative-wise that seemed mostly resolved and resolved positively. It would be weird for that to lead to the break up.

          Constant relapsing was A Thing in their relationship but I guess I can see why it’d be narratively unsatisfying for that to be a reason. Someone here (Varangian? Something like that) theorized that Clint came back and Ruth downplayed Jennifer in front of him which eventually lead to their breakup and that’s what I’m subscribing to for now, especially if Ruth actually did something wrong that Jennifer would need to forgive her for.

    So I looked at the last panel, and I read the FWAP with Leslie’s hand position as a high-five, and then I saw Robin’s hand behind her and was like, “that’s not how a high-five works”, and then I looked at the previous panel and put it together correctly, and it just made the last panel even funnier
