      In my college there was a girl who’d sweep into her friends rooms and just get them out, asking if one looked bigger than the other or different (which shows how often this happened). She’d do this with no mind for any visitors her friends had and while boyfriends often found themselves pillow cased to blind them temporarily, she only really got backlash when she did it in front of someone’s dad. Billie is so that girl, albeit with more kind who else is around when she does it.

But like… Take your pick of the American right-wing’s bullshit, whether they specifically target Jocelyne or not? Gay rights? Women’s bodily autonomy? Immigration? Trump generally? Israel? Russia? Healthcare? Defund the police? Tax and/or eat the rich?

        Couple years ago (?) the campus administration put in more restrictive rules on protesting. So there was a fast protest about that, too.

        Jocelyne’s first and most immediate answer to Becky not having her necessary papers was “okay, so we’re doing a B&E, ASAP.” It probably doesn’t have to be a cause related to her, for her to care about it; for narrative purposes though, it’s probably about trans rights.

    Folks, help me out here: so Jocelyne is here to participate in sit-in protests, right? Why does her phone need to be off for that, and why does she need to be so sly about it (do we know what these protests are about)?

      You turn your phone off at protests so the cops can’t track you. Optimally, you don’t bring the damn thing in the first place since you won’t need it and if they decide to get spicy you *will* not get it back and they’ll do their damnedest to crack it open like a clam and arrest everyone you vaguely know.

      This applies whether or not you yourself plan on doing anything strictly illegal, because they are cops, and they will happily create illegal things as an excuse to make you stop bothering rich people.

      (Also, if in the US, remember not to have your phone set to facial, retinal, or thumbprint unlock. They need a warrant to get your passcode but *not* to use your body against you – as fucked up as that is)

      USA cops have certain tactics they really want to use against large protests. Including tracking you by your phone, or taking your phone and reading all its files, or arresting you for a couple days for no damn reason at all and releasing you later (without your phone and other stuff), using a variety of physical intimidation tactics against you, or all of these.

      If you need to, get a burner phone with nothing on it and memorize any numbers you might need. Sometimes people might want to be able to plan to get picked up, but ideally find a way to do it without have your usual phone with you.

      My guess is that the sit-in is tied to trans rights and so it would have been hard to bring up while also not coming out… so it wasn’t an “over the phone” conversation.

      I also think there’s a possibility of being photographed at the protest and then being recognized by people who know you– that may have been what Jocelyn meant by “before you hear it from Dad.” So I guess this may tie to a wider coming out for her, which may be something she also wants to inform Joyce of.

        I still think Hank probably already knows. And that was likely the trigger for her to come out to Joyce and maybe even for going to the protest. At least if she thinks there’s any chance of being id’d because of it.
