You still wouldn’t know, but you’d be living in California.
I am Nothing
Truly, a fate worse than death.
Wagstaff
I beg your pardon?
Clif
Until you’ve experienced both, I don’t think you can make an informed comparison.
Wagstaff
There’s literally no way to know what lies in death, the final unknown. For all we know, what lies in death could be far worse. It would be very much wise not to perchance the dream.
It’s a given that noone can know what death is like; however I can still provide a very informed evaluation here. Care to guess why?
I am Nothing
You’re a g-g-ghost!
spriteless auntie
Not existing after you die will be a lot like not existing before you’re born, right?
I am Nothing
Yeah, except it’s in reverse.
Wagstaff
ALL WRONG!
I’ll give you a hint: it has something to do with semiconductors and a precious metal.

What if life after death means living in California
thejeff
Is that if you’ve been good or if you’ve been bad?
Spencer
No peace in death. No justice or clemency for any soul.
Only California.

This is what the song “Hotel California” is about.
Lucy has a sibling that’s a gender swapped copy of herself just like Walky? These two might be made for each other….maybe. it could also just be a fun character design trope.
Asher?…I know that guy. I also know I don’t trust him. That is all……
….Actually that’s not all. Sal visiting Asher will possibly lead to drama and it’s a fear that they’d somehow end up hooking up in any capacity. It would be a very dramatic development which means it will probably happen.
I guess the question is, was Sal actually going to see Asher?
There was no indication of her wanting to visit Asher in the previous comics, and since Sal is just out for a ride (and I doubt the campus is THAT big), she’d probably be going by a lot of different buildings just because, well, bikes travel faster than walking.
Maybe she’s going to do him a solid favor and let him know that his new girl friend is a nut case.
Geneseepaws
Asher may -think- that he’s chill, or Zen, “in control”, but that’s just an illusion generated from pretending that he has control of his situation. The power of the Mob doesn’t give him strength or control, Hugh he might think so.
Who knows what Amber’s dad would have wrought psychologically, if the robbery hadn’t happened? We do know that the interaction with Sal was the incipient event that pushed Amber into her crisis. Jennifer is one level of tightly wrapped fury, but Sal and Amber are capable of dragging him out of his ego’s little illusion and into a harsh reality with a level of fury he may not have imagined.
I am Nothing
A mcnutt case.
Clif
McNutt case. And I can’t even blame that on spell-check.
I suspect that Sal has decided that the time has come for her and Asher to settle accounts so that she at least can move on with her life (Asher seems to have already done so without much trouble).
You know, the most unrealistic part of this whole comic might be that there’s not a bunch of college kids riding down this giant snow hill on stolen cafeteroa trays.

It’s a brother’s job. Trust me on this.

McNutts you mean?

Flipping nuttburgers at McNutt’s.
Sirksome
I live in California. I don’t know what Mcnutt is.
Thag Simmons
McNutt is, from context, a dorm building at this university. Asher lives there, as do Beef and Lucy’s Brother (I wanna say Kyle?)
Sirksome
Lucy has a brother???
Doctor_Who
Yes, but she hasn’t informed him yet.
Thag Simmons
I don’t think they’ve appeared in DoA, but they’ve been mentioned and appeared once or twice back in Shortpacked
Thag Simmons
This is phrased badly, they’ve been mentioned in DoA but not appeared, they showed up in person once or twice in Shortpacked.
Thag Simmons
Comic where they were mentioned
Clif
Where was it mentioned that Beef lives there?
Thag Simmons
McNutt
Clif
But yeah. Lyle. He seems nice.

I know what both are like, and death at least doesn’t make my lungs hurt.
Wagstaff
You guys really think California is THAT bad?
Well…. looking around, I guess you guys have a point. If this is any kind of heaven, it’s only a silicon heaven.

Close, you’re only one letter off— his name is Lyle.
Sirksome

Great, close enough, I’m still basically right.

And yet if this was multiple choice, government id, or a password prompt, it’d be a complete failure.
Yumi
The thing is, Lyle is a great name and Kyle is a suck name. My apologies to any Kyles in the comment section.

In hindsight, “McNutt the Crime Mutt” would have been a more memorable name.

They were supposed to build two mirror-image buildings adjacent to each other, but budget cuts left the campus with only one.

At a glance this strip reads as someone in Heaven talking down to the mortals.

There’s a powerful McNutt to this strip.
Fixed that for you.
