          Unless Joyce or Walky has somehow earnt higher ‘crazy bongo’ stats than Billie, I somehow doubt Maarcie was refering to either of them.

          And the ‘rush out of the room’, clearly it wasn’t because she was in a hurry to get to work or class, so Billie is the only reason left we know of.

          That’s why it is obvious to me.

          (Doesn’t mean I couldn’t end up been wrong thou…)

    I went with Sal winning because we’ve been set up to feel that way. But I think it would be fascinating / surprising if Sal went down with a single sucker punch (Ruth style I guess) and then asked what the eff Billie’s problem was. She’s got that late night job every night and didn’t even know about the dang form!

    So I guess this is how Billie gets her journalistic exclusive: Amazi-Girl will swoop in and save her from another rumble. Though it might be more hilarious to see Amazi-Girl swoop Sal away instead.

    On a side note, I think Joyce and Walky in that last panel make a well-matched (and overwhelmed) beatdown posse with Billie. We’ve all seen Joyce’s violent side in her date with Joe, but we’ve seen how Sal’s motorcycle easily distracts her.

    The only reason this is gonna be even remotely okay is that Sal can probably tell when someone’s all fluff, and will respond in kind. I really wish Billie would learn that not everyone views being attacked as a game of sportsmanship and machismo. One of these days she’s gonna assault the wrong stranger and die because of that small error in communication.

    Sal, completely unperturbed, then spits her cigarette into Billie’s face, hitting her directly in the forehead.

    Billie, momentarily shocked, loses her balance and then falls flat on her tuchus.

      Or Willis is going to make Sal what she would be without the super-powers she had in Walky!verse – just a bunch of neuroses that only looks “awesome”, but is really unable to take on much of anything.

        Okay, I just gotta say this. Here’s what Billie knows about Sal. Criminal past (robbed a gas station). Probably doesn’t sleep because of some weird opposition she has to this room. Is so freaked out by the notion of even being seen in what’s supposed to be her abode that she makes a regular habit out of entering and exiting through a fifth story window. Has a motorcycle which her parents wouldn’t have paid for (where did that money come from?).

        So I think from Billie’s perspective there’s a strong case that she’s exactly what you paint her as. A whole bunch of unawesome neuroses. Plus probably strung out as all hell from whatever substance is removing her need to sleep. Strung out or not though, fearful as all fuck.

        Now where I disagree here is that this would mean that Billie wins. You ever seen a walking ball of unawesome neuroses? I’ll paint how that scenario goes just in case. Billie walks in and does her beat-up routine. Sal completely wigs out and knife’s Billie in the gut. Sal panics seeing Billie bleeding out before her, borrows some gas money from her friends and starts speeding off to the next town over before the cops get on this instead of calling an ambulance for Billie. By the time help arrives it’s too late and Billie dies because she didn’t know when to leave someone well enough the fuck alone.

        Because of how she seems to compose herself during the Joyce encounters I’m pretty sure she’s not actually such a ball of neuroses, but rather just a girl with a lot of issues to work out, not unlike the rest of the cast. Still, I cannot possibly emphasize enough how suicidal Billie’s behavior is for the very reason you list.

      Given that it seems unlikely that Sal knows actual sign language, I’m wondering how Marcie actually managed to communicate the phrase “crazy bongo” to her at all. ‘Crazy’ has a universally understood hand sign (which she’s shown making), but ‘bongo’, not so much.

Billie a the most is just a angry drunk bongo, but I don’t think she quite fits under “crazy”.

        Being angry and drunk isn’t crazy. Its irresponsible and stupid, but you can at least explain it. She’s angry because she’s naturally a bongo, and she drinks because she likes it.

        Scaling four story buildings to avoid interacting with a roommate who only wants to get their paper work sorted out is crazy cause we have no idea WHY she’s doing it.

    So, Billie already got her stuff back AND got blackmail pics to keep Ruth at bay once Ruth finds out Billie got it back and she STILL takes it out on Sal (I’d avoid Billie like a cold sore on a lip if I was Sal too) even though she was just being herself? Wow.

        I really hope you’re right, I just got a vibe that she was taking what happened to her, bad as it was, as Sals fault when its not. You wouldn’t blame Walky for being zany, or Joe for being a leech, its who they are…so Sal shouldn’t be treated any different.

          Billie went through all this because Sal is exactly what Marcie is “signing” there: a crazy bongo who can’t take a minute to introduce herself to her roommate. So yes, it is Sal’s fault. All this happened to Billie because Sal was going to stupid lengths to avoid being in that room, and Ruth, being the jerk she is, was holding Billie responsible for getting Sal to sign some slip of paper. It very much *is* Sal’s fault.

          I agree its pretty RUDE of Sal to not introduce herself, but, we don’t know Sals story: maybe she knew Billie before she was sent away (or maybe even Billie was part of the reason) and is avoiding her for good reason (I mean, its not like being alone was anything new to her). I totally hear you, BUT, its not like Sal KNEW Billie needed to speak to her and get her signature on that form, I’m sure if she had she would have stopped being a lone wolf for a second and helped Billie out D:

          That does bring up a good point. If Billie and Walky were friends as far back as they were in It’s Walky, Sal and Billie actually knew each other before she left for quite a while. She might only remember Billie as the Popular Girl who used to hang out with my brother.

          I still want Sal to come out the worse for this. Not because she was malicious. She wasn’t. She’s just sort of a neutral character as far as the cast goes. Someone who lacks screen time through their own actions. Billie just keeps grabbing woobie points, even if they are of the jerkass variety. As a character, I care more about her in this continuity.

          Billie and Sal didn’t know each other before Sal was sent away, i’m 98% sure, near the beginning there were Billie/Walky conversations about Billie meeting his sister and such that implied they weren’t previously acquainted.

          To be clearer, Girls with Slingshots is the comic who’s crossover with Something Positive birthed a litter that then crossed over into two other comics. (Shortpacked and All New Issues). You made it sound like GWS didn’t exist outside the crossover.

    I personally think Billie should be the one to get her ass beat. She is acting like a crazy bongo. For all the things people condemn in Ruth, Billie has them just as much. She’s violent, rude, and condescending, making nasty comments about everyone she meets – whether they warrant them or not. She’s on this pedestal of superiority and she’s begging to get knocked off of it.

    Especially if she’s walking up to people and making threatening gestures at them, like she’s doing today.

    While Sal would probably win in a fight; I do wish Billie could just get the damn papers signed and be done with it. That way Sal could go on with her life and Billie could go on with her own and they never have to deal with each other again aside from fighting over someone using too much toilet paper.

    My sign language instructor told me months ago that that’s not the sign for crazy. Crazy is a C by the eye. But then again, I’ve also learned that there’s so much variation in ASL that I really have to learn new signs for half the things I know every time I meet a deaf person, so it wouldn’t surprise me that some people sign crazy that way.

      The crazy that is a C by the eye is technicaly signed English. I linked a website up towards the top that is a very good dictionary that my Interpreting prof gave us.

        What!? Sometimes when my instructor shows us a sign, she’ll show us the SEE version as well, but in this case she specifically said that the signal we know is a gesture and not a sign. Unless I’m getting it confused with one of the other things that she said that about.
        By the way, Willis, is there a disability-related explanation for her glasses as well?

          it could be an accent thing, I’m speaking as someone that learned to sign in the Pacific Northwest, ASL is like any other language and any other culture in that it has accents of all shapes and sizes. Your teacher may be teaching a regional accent, or mine may have way back when I learned the sign. I’ve seen signers still use the offensive version of signs like Germany, Spain and Japan even though those haven’t been used in years so, anythings possible and when in doubt I leave you with a quote from my Deaf ASL 1 instructor. “Deaf people are weird and we will do random ass shit just to confuse the hearing people.”
