          I imagine that after losing their parents Ruth is at least a bit protective of her little brother, so he gets a polite warning first. I would guess “strike two” is a forceful punch in the arm and then (since they’re Canadian) the Hat Trick is a traditional hockey style (meaning completely unceremonious and brutal) punch to the face.

          I’m kinda serious. I’ve seen it happen fairly often that the kids from the strict (usually religious) upbringings get wound up so tight that when they get out from under the parental thumb and get a taste of the broader world, they kind of go sproing all over the place, and go wild doing all of the things that they were forbidden from doing before. Their upbringing doesn’t give them any guidelines for dealing with things other than “DON’T”, so once they’ve broken that one, they’ve got no regulators left at all. (Joyce is having some of that problem herself, though she’s self-aware enough to have seen it before she stepped in it – thus her Galasso’s freakout.)

          And I can’t be the only one reading a girl-crush on Joyce into Becky’s cast profile.
