      She’ll let the borrow a few if they run out of ideas, though heaven knows how they’re going to replicate the thing with Unicron and the rubber chicken.

    While I do not care, wouldn’t a normal person find Amber asking for details on her gay friends sexual exploits just a wee bit creepy. I mean, if I was to ask a lesbian to text me details about her sexual experiences, I would not be surprised if she decided to go to the campus police.

      The fetishization of queer people is not ideal. It is very Amber, though, and Ethan knows Amber, so he’s probably not surprised. They’re also close friends, so it gets into the aspects of their relationship as well, and it probably at least feels more okay between them than between strangers or casual acquaintances.

          It’s troubling because it reduces people to objects, and because the phantasy boils down to either wanting what you can’t have or not wanting to view someone of your own gender because it makes you feel gay.

          Also, holy shit. Read a yaoi and get back to me. It’s always got that top bottom thing with horrible gender roles, and always with the rapy take on S&M.

          A friend brought me to yaoi in my teens, and there weren’t that many available yet, and I read a bunch of relatively short, unfinished ones. Recently revisited one of them and was horrified by WHAT the heck kind of story plot I had actually enjoyed reading (namely, what you mentioned), usually happening, like, in the first chapter.
          But then again, some of the shojo I used to read was also rather bad in that regard (I mean, the forced kisses by the ‘hero’ are still a ‘relatively innocent’ cliché, I believe). But there are also a few good out there (romantic Manga in general, but also BL), with good storylines, deep characters, that don’t resolve to such low plot points (such as romanticised rape).

          With manga, I sometimes get the feeling there are more warnings about “adult content” on the ones that depict connected good sex than on those that depict actual rape.
          I started reading Yaoi because Yuri was few and far between and with Yaoi, these’s the chance I don’t get turned off by obvious power imbalances. A slight chance. Gave up again on it recently because the constant “the first time will hurt” cliche annoyed me no end.
          Though I admin I was confused when I found my public online lending library has a series of pornographic novelettes around twin gay tweens, one of whom is into great love and the other one is into having sex wherever he can. I don’t think that book was aimed to be read by teenage gay boys…

          It’s a bit of a complicated term and everyone would give you a different answer, but imo it’s less about watching porn (which is more private) and more about letting that color how you view gay people IRL. Like, yknow, lesbians getting told to make out for a male audience because it’d be hot, or taking their relationship less seriously than a straight one and only valuing it for its “sexiness” (hence why most lesbian couples in media tend to be femme/femme, since it’s assumed to be more attractive for the majority of the audience). So, viewing gay people as a porn category rather than people, really.

          It happens to gay guys too, just, on a different scale I guess? I’m not one so I wouldn’t know.

          Yeah, that makes more sense to me. To some extent all porn is objectifying, but straights and gay porn doesn’t have to be especially so. What turns you on is personal and not really under your control.
          It’s when it gets outside of that private level to affect your real life views that it’s a problem.

          I think it’s less about whether it’s literally a fetish, and more… what Ainara said? “viewing gay people as a porn category rather than people” – like, treating real people as objects for your entertainment is bad.

          I think I prefer my erotica gay (whatever the gender), but seeing an actual gay couple kiss is awkward and feels like I’m intruding on a private moment. (same as with any couple really)

        That does lead me into thinking, some of it comes down to who is considered a main cast member, and if we are just inferring virginity sometimes. Like, we haven’t seen Sarah have sex, not counting Jacob 2, but we also aren’t given a reason to think she is specifically a virgin, either.

    The idea is to give a sideways compliment or observation that hints at an issue that will make the target self-conscious.

    In the comic, asking a girl you’ve never met “looks like you’re on a diet, that’s great! How’s that fruit plate?” implies that the woman SHOULD be on a diet, which in theory undermines her self-confidence and makes her an easier target to “pick up.”

    It can be done very subtly. “I love your dress, I don’t have the confidence to show off my body like that” will get her thinking about her body and confidence and how she didn’t realize she was trying to show it off, she was just trying to dress nice, is this too slutty? and so on.
