        I find the sappier the better. If you make it so extreme as to be ridiculous, then you can both laugh at how silly it is, but you also get to say how you feel about them without it having to be a big deal.

      I think the danger has passed, their relationship seems strong. I’m not sure Becky would give up Dina even if Joyce suddenly hits her head and becomes gay. Not that she wouldn’t be tempted.

        I think in this case it’s partly Walky not living up to proper masculine protective roles. Letting the women fight for him.
        And sometimes that’s so deeply embedded it’s hard to even see why we react so negatively.

        I mean if you want to see Becky get completely shit on for it, feel free to go back to the comments sections for the comics where she and Joyce are visiting Joyce’s parents’ house (book 6, tail-end of chapter 2, plus 3 and 4)

      People seem to give Walky a hard time, with no leeway for the fact that even though he was the Golden Child he was raised in an abusive home just as much as Sal was. He grew up favoured, sure, but always with the itch in the back of his head that love was conditional. He is similar to Joyce in a lot of ways.

    It occurs to me that I’m the Dina in my husband’s life. He can interpret my atypical behavior for what it is – the recognition of his lovable awesomeness. That’s why we’ve been together for twenty five years.

    I used to joke that we worked together as a couple because we’re both so much better than ordinary people.

        That’s…not how I’d describe the aftermath of Dina’s death in the Walkyverse (between Walky flipping out and nearly beating Mike to death because he blamed him, to her funeral and Joyce and Walky’s relationship troubles because she believed Dina wasn’t going to heaven, to Dina actually appearing in the afterlife limbo place during the climax of the comic and talking with Walky)…

        tl;dr “No one mentioned, noticed, or cared about her after she died” isn’t, at least IMO, an accurate assessment of Walkyverse views on Dina following her death.

          Just because you don’t show emotions all the time doesn’t mean you don’t feel them.

    I was not a fan of Dina/Becky relationship. I didn’t think they were a good foil for each other in the general narrative of DoA and I usually got bored quickly when there were some consecutive strips with them alone together. But this strip opened my eyes and now I can see what it was all about. Well, it took some years, but it was worth it!

    Damn, this strip broke me down. I have a wonderful sad story about a Dina in my life, and this strip just killed me, bringing it all back. So nearly word-for-word it’s scary.

    My first visit to DoA was because of Dina appearing in QC, attracting me like a magnet. I am forever thankful. There are few other things that taste so lovingly bittersweet to me.
