They won’t be a thing until they show this chemistry somewhere else. …. or maybe make out on the roof…. but, yeah, they’re 90% of the way there to being a thing.
Well Meredith, thank you for (unlike nearly every weed smoker when I was in college) trying to be considerate of your residence mates by finding an out of the way area to light up.
In my experience, there are two types of people who smoke weed in public:
1) The ones who smoke in a small, enclosed space (like a car with the windows rolled up), so other people won’t smell the smoke, then walk around afterward reeking of it, and
2) The ones who don’t want everyone to know they’ve been smoking weed, so they go outside to smoke, not realizing that everybody in a 2 or 3 block radius can smell it (are thereby know what they’re up to). There are some of this variety living on my block; apparently, they don’t want the house to smell like weed, but it’s okay for everyone in the neighborhood to know they’re smoking it.
Of course, there are people that go into the bathroom to spark up, but they seem to be the minority.
Amazi-Girl once took on Sal, Marcie, Malaya, and Carla because of underage drinking. I’m certain Amazi-Girl would take a hostile view of anyone smoking weed.
But apparently Amazi-Girl and Amber haven’t been communicating with each other recently, and I’m guessing that Amber’s view is more of a shrug and a “Whatever.”
So I guess Amber’s romantic life is going to be the recurring theme of getting sloppy seconds from Dorothy?
Okay me being a mouthy asshole aside I’m sort of on the fence here of mocking this out of protest or actually taking a minute to Imagine these two as an item. But I think that comes from me just wanted to see how different personalities interact and I can just get that from unnormal companionship.
Marsh Maryrose
I’m not entirely sure about this, but let me put this out there and maybe this has merit, and maybe it doesn’t, I’m not invested either way.
Amber and Walky makes more sense as a relationship than either Amber and Danny, or Walky and Dorothy.
Danny did not fall in love with Amber. He fell in love with Amazi-Girl and he only started to love Amber once he realized that the two were attached. But although he didn’t know it, he never really clicked with Amber (only with Amazi-Girl), and Amber never really trusted Danny.
Walky and Dorothy’s relationship was based partly on physical attraction and partly on shared cultural touchstones, but apart from the sex and the nerdiness, they were never headed in the same direction.
Amber and Walky — neither of them is driven toward any particular goal. Both of them are just sort of coping at the moment. That’s not enough for a secure long-term bond, but it’s a start. Unless and until Amazi-Girl gets in the way, or Walky flunks out, there are no obvious-from-the-start navigation hazards for this ship.
Well Danny did grow to like Amber a little before he found out her secret but I don’t particular know if it was in that way. Other than that well….. fuck I don’t have a good rebuttal for this, Somebody help.
In addition to the early attraction the others pointed out, I don’t see why you think Danny never really clicked with Amber. Certainly not why you think she never trusted him.
She did reinforce that he was dating Amazi-Girl not him when he tried to blue those lines, but she also blurred them herself as well.

Not sure why you think Amber and Danny didn’t “click”. While Danny was initially infatuated with Amazi-girl, he has expressed admiration for Amber in her non-super persona (such as saying he’s amazed what she can do when she did the printer hack). Plus, they have other shared interests: comic books, the same course of study, etc. (And Amber would probably be turned on by Danny’s bisexualness.)
On top of all that, there is a need…. Amber needs support, Danny likes to feel useful.
> Walky and Dorothy’s relationship was based partly on physical attraction and partly on shared cultural touchstones, but apart from the sex and the nerdiness, they were never headed in the same direction.
That I agree with.
> Amber and Walky — neither of them is driven toward any particular goal. Both of them are just sort of coping at the moment.
Still can’t see that working. While both of them are ‘coping’, neither share the same work/school ethic. Plus, while Amber likes comics in general, Walky seems to be fixated on one and only one comic/cartoon (which Amber has never expressed an interest in.)
Having different work authors ethics and interests really aren’t requirements for a successful relationship. I know many couples that are vastly different in both regards, and couldn’t be happier
Amber and Walky have had some really healthy, supportive conversations. So far they’ve been really good for each other. That’s way more important to a relationship than liking the same comic books or having the same study habits.
Amber and Danny didn’t (or at least wouldn’t) work out mainly because Amber has him on too high of a pedestal. He’s a sweet guy, but being around him made Amber feel crappy in comparison to how she saw him. Walky was in a similar boat with Dorothy. His fear of not being good enough exacerbated his anxiety over his grades. Amber and Walky can relate to each other’s problems in a way that doesn’t end up making them feel worse.
Similarly, both Danny and Dorothy both have some personal work to do before getting into any relationship. Danny’s finally figuring out who he is and what’s important to him that isn’t tied to being someone’s boyfriend, and Dorothy really needs to figure out a sustainable work/life balance, or at least what she wants that to look like in the long run. THEN she can figure out where/when a boyfriend might fit into that
thejeff
Also, Danny ran headlong into Amber’s mental issues – both her trauma over Sal and the distinction between Amber and Amazi-Girl that he never really had the chance to grasp. Without that, I think they would have at least lasted much longer. He was just out of his depth and blundering through a minefield.
And Amber didn’t need any help feeling crappy about herself. I don’t think it was so much putting him on a pedestal as doing the opposite to herself – and she’d have done so with anyone who wasn’t just a jerk.
As for Walky, there’s some truth to that. OTOH, she also made him aspire to be better, which he could use a bit of, without actually forcing him to change. I think they were actually good for each other, until it all ran a ground her work/life balance issues – and probably still would be.
The problem with Dorothy staying out of relationships until she can figure out a work/life balance is that she’s decided on such balances several times, but she can’t stick to them. I don’t have time for such distractions/It’s just for fun/I love you, but it’s still going end when I leave/the pause/the break up.
I’m not convinced the break up will last. I’m pretty sure she’s not going to be better off this way.

Maybe an unrequited crush (walkys not moving on from his first love that fast. Then again there’s the potential for rebounding, but speaking from experience, a rebound when all you can think about is the other person doesn’t really result in anything deep.) And I blame the lot of you for making that typo the official spelling.

Meredith appears to be white, so police brutality isn’t likely.

The good news is, she might be okay around a cop. The bad news is, she might have trouble finding work in the film industry.

I guess Sal did, too, but didn’t like it and gave it back, just taking it for style points when she skated to show she could.

Fuck yeah, Amber deserves good people in her life, and her and Walky’s garbage roof is a pretty great way for them to support each other right now.
